  1. First off, the SA is awesome. It has several upgrades from the Mod and the new survival aspects will take it into a new realm of awesome. Once vehicles hit, I will play nothing else, and there is still a ways to go. This said, I have stopped playing it for some time, and I am back in the mod. Why? The Mod is a Simulator that got 1.7 million players by NOT being completely lifelike. I would argue that this is an aspect that I have not seen in the SA at all. What is better for me -> An awesome video game, not a simulator where I will spend hours doing simply basic and trivial survival things (EVEN THOUGH I recognize this as a core game mechanic, I would kill for the old medical supplies as opposed to ALL the new aspects such as colds and heart attacks) and then move up to better things with some morphine and a pack of antibiotics being all that is required. Basically, I would rather worry about zombies, look for helicopters, shoot bandits, and talk with heroes (I vote for this system to come back). This survival approach has merits, but I have 400 hours in the mod with its limits, bugs, and 3 medical items. If I could have the Mod with better graphics and mechanics only, I would be happier.
  2. Now, how did the infection came to be ? Cholera warning in all sanitary units - medical centers, is a clue. They are written in russian, polish and czech. Right, but like I said in the OP, that particular background isn't strictly relevant. The lore of DayZ could operate in an independent universe from ARMA. It could also occur in the same one, but we just don't know that. If it occurs in the same universe as ARMA, then I would assume that all weapons/vehicles/clothes/etc from ARMA would be fair game in DayZ. Likewise, DayZ could take place in 2020, not 2009 like ARMA II. The history on the ARMA II is more OOB than anything, in describing the conflict, vice the actual land.

  4. basically rocket is the community manager. all rest of the team are making the game. crack the whip lets get vehicles already!
  5. From the perspective of an experience DayZ Mod player, former Hero (11k humanity in the mod), and about 1 year total playing DayZ Mod/Standalone combined. The first thing that you must understand about DayZ, is that it is NOT a quality First Person Shooter. If what gets you your kicks is tight gun mechanics and fast paced game play, then there are better FPS games that do it better. Insurgency and CS:Go, as example. If what gets you off is driving around in military vehicles firing heavy weapons, again, you should look to games like the Battlefield franchise or even ARMA III. If zombie apocalypse games are your fancy, DayZ probably isn't the best for that either. What makes DayZ unique is the role playing element of player interactions. In other games, the lines between "good" and "evil" are easily distinguished by "Red team vs Blue team". In DayZ, the lines are blurred between friend, foe, hero, bandit, and survivor. Odds are, none of us fit into any one of these labels perfectly at all times. I think I can speak for most heroes when I say; sometimes we make questionable calls and we may kill someone who didn't deserve it.. Or maybe we should have killed someone when we didn't.. True bandits steal from people and hold them up, but the word "bandit" has become synonymous with "murderer". People who camp the coast shooting fresh spawns aren't "bandits", as the traditional definition of the word would imply. They are just bored players looking to get their thrills by bullying fresh spawns. Not that Fresh Spawns are innocent. Anyone on the coast (except for a first timer), go there by dying somehow.. Many of them probably at an airfield or within Elektro or Berezino where they may have been trying to kill someone else who may or may not have had it coming. The reality is, everyone makes their own justifications for why they did things and rationalizes why it was the right thing to do. There's a lot of people on these forums (and in game) who have this "trust no one" mentality, and take a cynical view of the entire community, assuming that everyone is out to get them. This may actually be true in their world. There are KOS murderers out there, and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. There are also "bandits" who will hold you up, take your pants and shoes, feed you disinfectant spray, then laugh and torture you, beat you up, and leave you handcuffed and sick in the middle of the road... If you're lucky, they might kill you. There are also epic heroes which will counter-snipe the Elektro/Kamy/Solnichny/Berezino campers, and even come give you food and medical attention. These people do exist, for better or worse. But... These are the extreme ends of the spectrum, and the odds are the majority of the players you meet in game fall somewhere in between these extremes. What defines skill in DayZ is not your ability to kill other players, or how long you survive. It's not difficult to survive for 6 months, if all you do is camp out in the woods and loot unoccupied servers. It's also not difficult to wrack up 20+ kills on a single character life if all you do is snipe from a hill, shooting people who don't even know you're there. It's not difficult to murder someone who has no gear, or who has their back turned, or who is outnumbered 5 to 1. Skill in DayZ is the ability to balance risk, and make an impact on the world. If you never see anyone then there's no point in even playing on a multi-player server.. And if all you do is camp fresh spawns, how does that make you skilled? It's clearly an unfair fight, and you're a bully. You have to ask yourself what is more rewarding for you, and what is more rewarding for the people around you. I have had amazing gun fights with geared players that dragged on for several hours, and even though I may have died (sometimes more than once), I felt blessed to be involved in such an epic battle. People usually will KOS you if they feel you are a threat and they have an advantage on you. If you are a good player, you can mitigate the chances of people KOSing you by outwitting everyone on the server and not putting yourself in harms way to start with. Likewise, you can avoid being held up by being the one on your toes and avoiding the situation before it begins. Here are a couple rules of thumb to help you avoid unnecessary deaths and KOSing.. 1. DO NOT depend upon anyone else but yourself. It is good to have friends, but you should carry/have access to everything you need without having to beg, borrow, or steal from anyone else. 2. DO NOT loot bodies. Really.. Unless you are 100% sure you are safe to do so, DO NOT loot bodies. One of the major mistakes inexperienced players make is running up to a body and attempting to grab some quick loot off of it. You do not know who else could be watching or where from. If you stop to loot a body, you're taking a risk. Sometimes this risk may be worth it, but it's usually not. 3. DO have a clean and organized inventory. Have your important items on your hotbar. Personally, I set it up as follows: 1. Primary, 2. Secondary, 3. Melee, 4. Bandage, 5. Compass, 6. Canteen, 7. Morphine, 8. Handcuffs, 9. Handcuff Keys, 10. Misc (Map, med kit, carry case, etc) 4. Learn the map. Know the hot spots, cold spots, good loot spawns, wastes of time spots, and know the lay of the land. Hills, mountains, valleys, rivers, water pumps, tree lines, etc. 5. Know the common sniper/ambush locations and the angles you can scout them/counter snipe them from. 6. Carry your weapon in your hands as often as possible, if you are in high/medium traffic areas.. Zelenogorsk and Cherno would be considered Medium traffic.. Elektro/Berezino would be considered high traffic. 7. Use 3rd person.. If you're on a normal server. IF not, then use your peek function and have high fidelity headphones with proper settings.. 8. Pay attention. Open doors, left-over loot, lack of zombies, active zombies that you didn't aggro, gunshots, eating/drinking sounds (when they get sounds fixed!), etc.. All of these and more are important cues you should take note of when entering and operating in an area. If you see a magazine on the airstrip 20 minutes after server restart that has been left empty in a closed door barracks.. you know there is a person on the airstrip within the last 20 minutes that has an M4 and is smart enough to close doors behind himself. 9. Close all doors behind yourself when you leave a building. Never leave empty cans/ammo behind. Leave them in your inventory until you are out of an area then drop them in a field/wooded area somewhere. 10. Never stand at the crest of a hill. Just don't. Never stand still inside of towers/on top of roofs. You're an easy shot for a sniper. 11. Communicate with people. If you come across a fellow survivor, or someone comes across you.. Try to communicate with them in a polite manner. Some are bad people, some are good people, most are just people who are looking for something entertaining in the game. Whatever the result of the encounter is, do not take it personally. Be happy you had it. You never know who you may run into. 12. If you're not geared, take big risks.. if you are geared, stick to the tree lines and be a ghost. 13. If you are sniping or shooting from 1 location, whether you kill your target or not, change positions as soon as reasonably possible. Retreat into the tree line/through town, and loop around to another position. Never stay in 1 place for too long. 14. Don't run across open fields. 15. Check your 6 every minute or less. 16. Don't jump the gun. Be patient. Don't fire the second you see someone. If you miss, and don't secure the kill, then it becomes a gun battle that you may lose, especially if you're not in a superior position. Think things through tactically.. If you're ambushing someone you want to wait until they are out of cover and in the worst position possible before you engage/communicate with them. They're less likely to shoot back/run if they are out of cover, and you are in cover and have them pinned. 17. Know when to retreat. 18. Never put yourself in a position you cannot get out of. The top of the firestation sounds like a good idea, until a sniper pins you down... then your only options are to combat log like a pussy, or attempt to climb down a ladder and hope they miss every shot... or simply outplay them and win from a disadvantage, which is unlikely. Better to avoid those positions all together. 19. Never over-estimate yourself/your group. Good players, good shots, and large groups die all the time. Don't become one of them. Nothings more embarrassing than having you and 3 of your closest friends camping the ATC at Balota looking for fresh meat, just to be completely wiped and taken out by a single sniper. And finally.. 20. Have a code. Every man must have a code. (Edit): A few other tips: 21. Stay healthy. (Bag O Rice + Water fountain = good to go.) 22. Always double-tap a target you've downed (If you wish to kill them.) IF not, remove their weapons/ammo. 23. The berries are a lie. 24. I've heard that haste can be folly, but I've never seen delay that was wise - Sun Tzu. 25. Don't carry too much food.. Eat it as you come across it and only keep enough on you to replenish your supply after long treks. 26. Try to avoid eating/drinking in highly populated areas. People can hear your food/drink sounds and track you down. 27. Always carry a morphine/splint, and have it on your hotbar.. Never know when you'll break your legs. 28. Don't press "respawn" right after you go unconscious.. A lot of times, you can come to.. Sometimes to the surprise (and demise) of your attacker. 29. Split ruined ammo to make it pristine again. 30. Pristine or Worn.. Nothing else is worth your time.

    backstab

I feel somewhat sorry for the sneering comment, I appreciate every user who wants to contribute ideas that might improve gameplay and game mechanics as well as I appreciate all those brave gamers hopping on experimental servers to try out stuff and report bugs. But please for the love of god: don't forget what this game is about and try to have a vision what this game could become. I'm reading so many suggestions that are either about imporving the FPS aspect to an extend, that it would make the whole survival thingy obsolete, as well as I really "hate" reading stuff like "give us backstabbing because BF4 has it". No offense OP, BF4 might be a great game, I was a huge fan of the Battlefield series until BF3 (skipped BC1 and BC2 though), I personally didn't even bother with BF4 because BF3 went down a road that made me think "as well can play CoD then". The possibilities this game has to offer are endless and I'd love to see people to step back from the FPS-(only)-aspect and put more energy in finding out and develop ideas how to combine different gaming-types and gaming-styles in one game, because the outcome simply could be a blast. If I wouldn't love to play a FPS game I wouldn't have bought DayZ in the first place, so be assured that I'm an avid FPS gamer, but this game could have so much more to offer. The complexity of combinging survival aspects with FPS aspect is just awesome, now add some human interaction and -generally said - the human element to it and it would offer a gaming experience like no other. There is no point to add elemts you have in every f*cking FPS on the market already (as well as there is no point to just run around and kill everyone you come across), these are/ might be great games, but our goal should be to participate in creating something new, something unique, rather than just copying other games. This game always will be a FPS, just try to make it more unique, make it better and make it more complex than just "add more guns", "add vehicles" , "add backstabbing" and whatnot. I really didn't want to be snarky with my last comment and I hope you didn't get me wrong. If so, I'd like to excuse for being a dickhead,...but I really am tired of reading such suggestions that go down the wrong road in my opinion.
  8. The game lags bad now. You cant see your inventory items when you drop them for two fucking minutes on full servers, how the fuck are we gonna have vehicles? In cities? Jesus, this game is fucked. If Bohemia does not sell the concept of DayZ to a more talented group of developers, we are truly fucked and this game will get canned.

anti-hopping or why it's useless for the moment.

If you have no idea what you are speaking about...don't speak. Look at my signature. Read it. Think about it. Gearing up is TOO fast. Even if you don't hop servers you can be set (gun+ammo, better clothes, backpack, food etc.) in an hour at least. Even on experimental. Additionally: You don't get a heart attack from running too much (otherwise my exp chars where all dead due to this reason). Vehicles need physics+crafting to be implemented. The health system is worked on and everything that works will become part of the Alpha because....testing. Same goes for barricading, physics, cooking, hunting....whatever. Tip: Go west. And I DON'T mean only NWAF. (everytime i say "go west", people run NWAF for no reason...and i hear the petshop boys...damn it)

anti-hopping or why it's useless for the moment.

I agree. They are sold on the premise of being tested. However, the majority of people who buy games do not do so for that purpose. I don't want to test games as a hobby, I want to play them. I seriously doubt that the majority of the 1.5 million people bought DayZ for anything other than entertainment. The main reason I got it is because I knew I'd get it cheaper. Because of this people end up frustrated. Like you mention dying of a heart attack because you have to run everywhere. From our perspective of wanting an entertaining, non-frustrating experience having vehicles before heart attacks makes perfect sense, but from the perspective of the dev team it may not for various reasons. Hence we are given a frustrating experience. To their credit the DayZ team has been very vocal in warning people against buying the game. However, as I mention I seriously doubt that most of the 1.5 million who bought it care about that. Herein lies the problem. DayZ is broken from an entertaining gameplay perspective and will remain so for quite some time. When it is finally released I doubt there will be many still interested in it (all who want the game have it already) and it makes you wonder where then does the incentive to finish the game come from?

This is the end of the map, my only friend, the end

Its pretty much a never ending, randomly generated landscape, with no object :) Thats simply how BI have chosen to handle "map borders" and Arma III works exactly the same way, but it is under water instead of over water. As far as i know, nobody has ever found the "end" of it, because it keeps generating random empty land, so you can go on for ever basicly. In the mod, all the vehicles placed in this "debug country" where removed at server restart, to keep people inside the map.

    Overwatch

Hi guys sorry for starting this topic here but trying to find out a few things. Like if can I use the Namalsk Map while running Overwatch mod. I have looked around this site and others trying to figure out how I could do this. Can anyone help me with this or point me in the right direction. I was also wondering on my provider HFB SERVERS when I am in Control Panel and I tell it to "Spawn Vehicles (Not for Epoch Or Sahrani) it spawns them out in the ocean all over like it is spawning them for Chernus But I am running Namalsk so I am not sure is their away to fix it ??? I would really like to provide more vehicles. Anyway Thanks A lot Stomper

    G3 A3-4 weapon suggestion

They're not issued to the Military, but they're much like AKs now, being purchased by terrorists and criminals, and Guerillas. They found they're way into the Yogoslav wars (Although, so did Lewis guns) and probably a few during the Chechen wars and every conflict in the Middle East since the 1990s, and the neighboring Takistan Used FN FALs, and if arma added all the vehicles and weapons jsed by each faction, there undoubtedly would have been G3s.

How long before we get another map?

I never thought i'd say it, but in all honesty i'd be all for vehicles & camps out in the debug plains again..

How long before we get another map?

I'd rather they'd enlarge the present map and completely randomise the spawn points tbh, although I'd love to see an SA version of Namalsk complete with strange voices and even bloodsuckers. When vehicles (even bikes) come in, Chernarus will get a lot smaller.
  17. Hey ive got an idea? How about they add Vehicles... Now...Please... if you need a fundimental reason, People will buy your game if you add vehicles. Plus it makes the game much more Bareable. Also.... is the next update coming soon? or... i was told it would be implimented on wednesday 12th by Rockets announcement b4 hicks edited it out.

Making guns a much more in-depth factor

To counter your argument I think a more in-depth system for the weapons in needed because this is a survival game. Maintaining a firearm needs to be at the same level as maintaining your health, hunger/hydration, temperature, and vehicles. Otherwise firearms(a critical part of survival) will stand above all the other survival elements, this will reduce the challenge of survival across the board and destroy the atmosphere. If all that was required to get a vehicle working was fuel they would be less exciting to have and you would be less cautious when using them, because it would be easy to replace for the most part. If firearms were at that level(specially high grade ones), Melee would have more value, lower end firearms would have more value and maintaining high-grade firearms would mean not being so trigger happy
  23. First off: I'm well aware that a lot of people won't agree with me on this topic. Maybe we can get a productive discussion going though <3 ... The way the looting-system for military gears and weapons is working at the moment is not only pretty unrealistic but also favors those, who seem to have no intention to play a survival-horror game and rather farm-hop servers or run private servers to gear up fast and go PVP. This thread ain't about playing styles, heroes, kosers or pvpers, I guess we all agree that every single playingstyle is totally legit and has it's place in this game. The problem though is server hopping: Not only these people don't actually play the game, they make it even harder for everyone who wants to play this game "properly" (as in, enjoy the journey, play a survival game, dont rush to a military farm to gear up just to then start a killing spree because you are bored). I just can tell about my personal experience on my current character. I have 2-3 servers I play on on a regular basis, 2 of them are low pop servers, one is 40/40 most of the times and I don't hop servers, because it would mess up the whole survival aspect for the game for me. When I run to some military base or an airfield and stuff is looted already, so be it, bad luck, gotta check somewhere else for the stuff I need then. The problem is: on my current character, I hardly ever find anything in a military base whenever I get there, there's just 4-6 people on the server and server got restarted like 30min before, yet no worthy leftovers to collect whatsoever. Bad luck I guess. It took me like 10-15hrs to finally find a M4 (which I only got because the server was restarting the moment I've entered the base) and -oh look at that- everything I needed was available. Assault vest, meds, M4, some ammo...and thats not how the looting system should work if you ask me. I shouldn't have been so lucky to get fully geared just because I was at the right point at the right time. Possible solution: Make all loot random, everything can spawn everywhere, including all kind of military equip. I'm not saying to increase the amount of military equip in any way, rather make them more rare and harder to find. Those who actually play the game and wander around looking for loot in every city should get rewarded and not "punished" and those who decide to just server hopp over and over to gear up: well, tough luck now. Advantages I see: 1) server hopping totally will be obsolete when you have spawnpoints completely randomized 2) players can get found all across the map, so more thrill when roaming areas that are not the few hotzones like military bases, airfields, elektro and so on, hence more thrill and paranoia for everyone, isn't that what we're here for? 3) gearing up would be way harder, people would have to deal with the survival aspect and maybe would act accordingly even when they not fully geared up yet (i.e. try to stay alive because it would take way longer to get geared up again/ get pristine gears again) 4) it would have way more of an atmosphere of heading into the unknown as it would be completely unpredictable where you'd meet what kind of people with what kind of equipment on what kind of mission. Two birds with one stone and it would make stuff so much more exciting if you ask me. Realism Some people might come up with the "that's not realistic" argument and if you ask me, the way it is at the moment is not realistic at all, so don't fool yourself. 1) Given the setting, military must have been all over the place to restore order. There is no way all Zed'ed-up soldiers ran back to their military base to drop their weapons and then ran back again to whatever place they are roaming around. 2) whats with the crashed military cars and trucks in the cities? Soldiers operating these vehicles left their base unarmed? 3) I'm pretty sure some citizens were panicing that much when hell break lose that they overpowered any military personal/ convoy out of pure desperation. Where are these weapons? 4) not only mentioning all those soldiers that got killed in action while trying to fight off the apocalypse, I doubt they did it with their bare hands. Again: I don't want to see any more weapons in game, rather reduce the amount and randomize the loot-areas to make them harder to find.

Rocket, What would YOU like to see in DayZ?

Hello there There's lots of fun stuff they want to see in game but they cant mention it as either its under an NDA or they want to keep some surprises back. R has covered before what he feels the game ought to be as an experience in several interviews. If you want to know what new object will be in game, well there is a vague list but no specifics. For example Vehicles. They want those back in, but not like they are in the mod or Arma and the whole Vehicle experience is being rethought and re designed. What else are you after info wise? Rgds LoK
