Remove Spawn Timer when joining same server.

Six_ten your the one not comprehending this thread For someone to ghost/ log out and sneak around you, he would have to switch to another server. He's asking for the removal of the log in timer when logging in to the SAME server. Ghosting wouldn't return, you have to join a different server to move position, doing so would still net you a log in timer
  2. BadAsh (DayZ)

Remove Spawn Timer when joining same server.

The downside would be reappearance of ghosting.
  3. Alogos

Remove Spawn Timer when joining same server.

that completely negates the point man. the timer is there to keep people from ghosting/combat logging, not just server hopping.

Remove Spawn Timer when joining same server.

They should still try and turn it into a better system. If it is at all possible, only use it when connecting to a different server. Ghosting wouldn't happen then or it would still have the same limitations as it does now. Right now you have a 'fix' that works well against what they're supposed to work against - however they also limit or affect the game in other aspects or for people who do not ghost or server hop. Although I know that it won't happen any time soon, but I still think they should. And seeing as everything else is blamable with "alpha" why isn't ghosting, combat logging and server hopping? Hey it's alpha - so get used to it.

Remove Spawn Timer when joining same server.

There a ways out of those rooms, one method that has worked for me is to run and vault constantly until you push/lag spike your way out of it. The other is (if there is a window) to constantly try there. These are bugs and will occur in alpha, they are on the bug tracker. The server-hopper and combat ghosting prevention timers are a feature and should remain in the game. Note: Re-logging to get out of a wall glitch does not work, not often unless there is a server roll-back to a previous point or character re-set. You have to push your way out and hope it lag spikes you into the open, the same it lag spiked you in.

    Logout Timer and Server Timer

Let me start by saying I have been playing DayZ a long time. I've seen games like this come and go but this one seems to want to stick around, and I don't have a problem with that, hell, I love it. However, I do not like these new logout and server timers. I stopped playing DayZ for a while when I was trekking up north with full gear to explore new military spawns and servers wiped. That's understandable though, I just needed a break. When I came back simply for the first server I had to wait five minutes, server wasn't night and I was in a pinch for hunger and I tried to find a daytime server, waited another 5 minutes. Character dead by login time, not cool man. These new timers are also understandable, and when implemented properly will fix many issues with combat loggers, server hoppers, and so on. However again, they have no been implemented properly in my opinion and seriously need a change. I have seen many post like this one, I know many people agree, but also disagree. I'm sure there's a compromise we can all agree with. Just a suggestion, but for the logout timer(character body staying for 30 seconds after logout) I recommend the current feature be completely removed, and replaced with a logout timer that is active the moment you his escape to abort(30 seconds long, reminisce of what was done in the mod) so you can see what's happening but still have your character forced to be inactive before you can abort from server completely. (Also maybe a 30 second combat timer before logout and then that together will stall ghosting and such) For the server timer, that's a bit more tricky. I propose being allotted 2 server changes every thirty minutes(Very variable, I would like opinions), a warning should be given on the last time you're allowed to change servers where it says if you do not wait for x amount of minutes you will be unable to login to another server, and attempting to do so should carry some sort of penalty of inability to play for (I don't know, ten minutes? Just throwing out random ideas) Players change servers for many reasons. I do so to avoid people, after playing DayZ for a long time I've found that to be the best option. I understand that there are issues you are trying to fix here guys, and I want to be as understanding as possible, but what I've gone through because of these new changes and what others have gone through is far too much. I bought the game because I am a real fan, and I loved it. However, also to play with friends, who are not going to buy until it's a bit more finished, if they're going to have to deal with this same crap, they won't want to buy the game and I will not recommend buying it either.

Remove Spawn Timer when joining same server.

Id rather have to deal with such inconveniences than combat loggers/ghosting.
  8. Or you could just, I dunno, stick to your favorite server. Though I could see it being a problem for people that only play on 24/7 daylight softcore servers since they tend to be full a lot. Still it would stop hopping for gear(unless someone thinks running all the way to the airbase from the coast repeatedly is a good idea) and totally eliminate the chance of ghosting. Regards.
  9. Hi. Can't say I agree about having to start over, that defeats the whole purpose of having the public hive. But what I think would work perfectly is, if switching to a different server you spawn on the coast like a new spawn but with your gear. It would completely negate server hopping for gear, and as a side bonus ghosting wouldn't exist anymore. Regards.

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer

OK! Challenge accepted. First of all, it seems really absurd for someone to do that. But I see your point. Albeit it seems like a rather inconsequential one. I do like the penalty time for leaving and rejoining a server. That sort of eliminates ghosting, doesn't it (and hinders server jumping)? Isn't that a totally different thing than combat logging? If a person has enough patience to continually reset his timer to try and log out and ghost someone then they probably have enough patience to sit in a bush and shoot someone in the back as they pass. But in my experience with this game, if you don't shoot someone point blank or get the drop on them with a sniper rifle then it's pretty easy to run around buildings, duck in and out and head for the hills. I've run away from players plenty of times. By the time they log out on that hypothetical hill of yours and rejoin the server after delay/penalty then I feel like the "victim" would be long gone. I dunno... Did I argue against your point successfully? Probably not. Seems like camping the reset button makes very little sense... and extremely boring. But again, I'm not a ghoster, combat logger, or bandit so it guess I just don't understand it the way you do. I definitely don't understand the need to KoS everyone for their gear when it's really not hard to find gear on your own, either.

Server Hopping has become godlike post patch

I don't think the intent of the timer was to ever really stop server hopping, at best it's a mild inconvenience to those lame enough continuing to do it, who should really be playing a fast paced respawning FPS shooter anyway. The real intent was to stop combat loggers and ghosting, because that's far more egregious.

Combat Logger Didn't Know It Was Patched

I am fine with dieing as long as it is my fault. In DayZ if you get shot and don't know where from that is your fault. If you lose a fight that is your fault. If you log off and someone finds your body that is NOT your fault. When you log off you should be logged off. There is a timer to stop people from ghosting. If people are so desperate to combat log that is their own problem. I personally don't want to die because someone found me logged off. DayZ is about situations and reactions to those situations. Can't react if you aren't online.

To those who dislike the new combat logging timer

All the points you make are valid but that is why i say it is a burden we will all have to carry. Yes there are holes in this design but the core of it was to stop ghosting and it has succeeded. Also two minutes is not a punishment, thats the difference of a toilet break, far too low in my opinion.

    The antihop/exiting timers..

While the current implementation doesn't eliminate server hopping it has stopped ghosting. I'm sure adjustments will be made, but it does limit hopping to gear. Most the time someone hopping for gear is only on the server for limited time, maybe a few minutes, to check 1-3 high value building and then repeat. 20 minutes, sounds like you hit the entire airfield, which means you were a potential target of opportunity for someone. Most people who hop, get in, get out, repeat as fast as possible.

Server Hopping and why the current doesn't work

The recent changes were to combat, Ghosting and Combat logging. Server hopping is still available.

    Login Timeout Needs Fixing

Ha, yes unfortunately as a married man with several kids and a steady job, I can't always devote hours to playing. But, I do like to get my daily fix of DayZ. I understand the problem of ghosting, There are instances where people need to re-log right away. Even a 30 second wait for the first time would be way better than a five minute whack in the face. While playing with my buddies last night, all very serious players, we had to wait for a dude to re-log for five minutes cause of a video issue. it would be easy to have dealt with 30 seconds. but five minutes for the first is awful.

    Login where u log out?

So, before i started this topic i was trying to search the forums for a possible answer to this question. But every time I entered the word "spawn", or "login" i was bombarded with threads on the new timer and ghosting and server hopping etc. My question is, I'm finding when i log out somewhere (usually out in the woods) when i log back in, I'm out in an open field, or somewhere else. Its kind of frustrating when logging to a high pop server, thinking your in a concealed position, to find yourself standing in the middle of the open when u appear. I'm sure I'm not the only one experiencing this, but like i said, couldn't find anything on the topic with the search function, hope someone can help me out.

    More NEWB Questions

Hey Guys, I have been watching a lot of DAYZ SA vids on youtube, and hear mention of the terms Ghosting as in, "be careful, he may Ghost in" and "he combat logged". I have searched for explanation of these terms and haven't really found a good explanation of each. Can someone help me out and explain exactly what these terms mean, and why they are major issues ? Thanks, Stang.

    More NEWB Questions

Ghosting can also mean that someone is watching the streamers stream, and ambushes them. Though I would wager it doesnt happen as often as they say it does. Combat logging and bhopping (moving in a 'safe server to attack someone in another server) was set back in the last patch. There is now a logout timer, and if you attempt to switch servers to quickly you get a 300 second timer.

The new logout system is bad. Very, very bad.

I admire the balls to post a WoW screenshot in the DayZ forum. I have restrained myself a thousand times in the discussion about the logout-timer from saying "yeah like WoW amirite"? With that being said, I just repeat what Dean said one more time: A logout timer that gives you the chance to interrupt it, would not help against combat loggers. And now to the real topic of the thread: Apart from that: Yeah its NOT good that you weren't in the same position where you logged out. File a bug report please, if it isn't already done, in that case vote it up. And the 30-second -logout timer does NOT prevent ghosting. The server hop timer does. (If you quit a server within 30 minute sof joining it, you have to wait up to 5 minutes before you can join another server.) That means it will take a minimum of 30 sec (logout) + 0 (ideal case, the ghoster was for more than 30 mins on the original server) + 30 sec (logout timer second server) + 5 min (login timer) 6 minutes. Not in this calculation is the time for searching the other sever, joining it, change the position, search original server. So we can say it will take a minimum of 7 minutes eff. to ghost somebody. And if you haven't moved for 7 minutes you are either camping somewhere to kill someone, afk or asleep. Edit: Disclaimer: I haven't gotten the server-hopping-timer by now, so I don't know if its really 5 minutes as it was said.

The new logout system is bad. Very, very bad.

*** E-THUG DETECTED! PLEASE REMAIN CALM. *** I am not a fan of World of Warcraft; I barely play it. My kid plays my old account. I've been done with it for a while. Their logout system is solid. I wasn't implying we use every fucking aspect of the system; obviously the instant logout in cities would be completely stupid to implement. If they can't get the current system to fucking work, then yup, they're going to be given alternatives. The one I suggested is an alternative to the current clusterfuck, whether or not there's a "fix" on the way. And no, this system doesn't prevent ghosting at all. It might slow it down, but it doesn't stop it. You can still ghost someone within two minutes.

The new logout system is bad. Very, very bad.

played wow since early 05. our dayz logout system is fine. what most of these metzen fanboys seem to forget to mention, is that in wow, you also have instant logouts in designated areas. not only that, your able to log in and out at will without penality, unless your in combat. stop comparing it to dayz. our system here prevents ghosting and combat logging to a degree. also, the blue genie watery thing is a water elemental, just ignore it, and save your cooldowns :P

BOO HOO report the server for admin abuse that will hopefully get it shut down.. Loot will eventually respawn but lack of loot is far less a problem than server hoppers ghosting killers combat loggers. Cant please everyone all of the time but try crying somewhere else....
