  1. This is going to make sense when private hives make appearence. I couldn't care less about a server with 218198 vehicles, starting gear and bullshit like that because its never going to affect my playing on mi vanilla server. I wont play what I dont like, as you said. But not playing a server on public hive doesn't avoid for it to affect your playing. If I have to put up with people o gangs gearing up on easy mode servers with daylight 24/7, no KoS, 1hr restart and then coming to my server to screw things up with his non deserved easy gear then his shitty configuration server is affecting MY play. Has nothing to do with "I dont like it, i dont play it". Public hive should all abide by the same rules. All servers time/wather synchronized, loot persistent through restart with respawn cycle or whatever and not friendly servers bullshit (this is already a reality btw). This way, all servers are the same, and all players play the same difficulty. P.D: not that this is much of a factor right now, since gearing up is easy enough doesn't matter the server you play, and respawn isnt implemented yet so no restart = no loot. But im talking in regards to the future of public hive.
  2. EXODUS-UK EPOCH SERVER It's still pretty young, been live for about five weeks now, just enough time for us to get things balanced and iron out some bugs. We're on a big push to get the server populated now, so please come by and check us out. It's a PvP server but we have tried to create a strong PvE experience with increased missions and hard Z's / AI. We have all the usual scripts, plus added barracks and supermarkets, and a custom military complex spawning unique loot at NWAF. Skalitzy Island is currently being developed and should go live shortly. With lots of supply crates and building supplies in mission loot base building is nicley balanced and inculdes indestructable metal and cinder. We have increased weapon lists inculding the M110, RPG, L86A2 and many more. This extends to vehicles inculding the Bell range of choppers and armored vodniks and the British Jackal. The server is policed by two admins and two moderators with over ten years experience. Exodus-UK is a mature gaming community. GENERAL INFORMATION Violation of rules will result in kick or ban. We run a zero tolerance policy and as a general rule a ban will follow a kick. You may be kicked or banned without warning. Bans may be appealed in the aptly named 'Appeal Ban' section of the Exodus-UK forum www.exodus-uk.com. We advise players to support their case by using fraps and screenshots when appealing a desicion. SERVER RULES - NO HAX OR GLITCHES OR EXPLIOTS - BANTER NOT ABUSE - RACISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED - DONT ATTACK ANYONE ENTERING OR LEAVING A TRADER SAFEZONE (500m good grace radius, no vehicle kamikaze in safezone, no destroy / damage vehicle in safezone) - NO COMBAT LOGGING - DO NOT LEAVE VEHICLES IN SAFEZONES (deleted after 12 hours without warning) - NO BUILDING AT BANDIT OR AIRCRAFT TRADER SERVER POLICY We run Anti-Carebear and Low Admin Interferance server policies. With regards to the subject of item refunds arising from player disputes, our policy is as a general rule admins will never consider any refund except in the case of compensation for reported bugs or server wide events.   3. LOL, private hives will just make the problem worse. Look at at the private hives in the mod, most popular ones are 500+ vehicles, auto refuelling, self blood bagging, 1000+ OHK weapons, non destructible/non raidable bases and donater perks. Any mod or PH that tried to make the dayZ mod harder, failed because the majority want easy mode and the rest want to play on populated servers.

    Why do you play DayZ?

    The mod was fine in the early vanilla stages, but when the huge mods that started coming in and essentially turning it into ArmA sandbox w/ zombies and hunger, that's when (a lot of) people lost the insight for interaction. However, I will say that those mods are great fun, just not how I (and I use that word strongly) envision DayZ. Still, I'm not going to take some high-horse role on either side; I'm not a forum king who insists that the game needs to be as hard and realistic as possible within the bounds of reality and that modding should be prohibited to the fullest extent, but I'm also not really fond of having people building skyscrapers from four boards of plywood or fixing A-10s from helicopter rotors. I have had plenty of good player encounters in both the mod and standalone, and actually moreso in the standalone as everything is vanilla at the moment and there are a lot more player interaction-based features in the game than there are in the mod. But I think the reason we've got a lot of PvP in the game right now is because of a lack of things to do. Once you get geared up, you've tried all of the features and explored most of the map, the only thing left to do is go and look for other people. Do you have to kill them (or have to do that at all?) No, but the game can get stagnant otherwise. What needs to be done is (in the long term, I'd rather the devs spend their time on making a good system than try to force it onto the game quickly and have it end up not working, or working horribly if it does); A) Make gear rarer and harder to get as well as accumulate. Lower the spawn rates of most gear, but increase the amount of locations it can spawn in. This would mean searching for gear would be harder and slow down server hoppers. These would also allow players to utilize fishing & hunting, which are rarely used at the moment.Randomize where loot can spawn a bit more. Not to the point of finding M4A1s in random barns, but a lot of the exclusive stuff makes no sense at the moment, such as Sporter-22 mags only spawning in military bases.Increase the chance of finding broken/damaged loot and add more ways of fixing them. That way you're not instantly ready to go after you've picked up something, but you're also not screwed if you find something broken.Increase the strength and prevalence of zombies. I'm not an advocate of forcing the zombies to be 100% more dangerous than players in terms of combat, but they need to be more than an inconvenience when encountered. This should probably wait until the zombies get better pathfinding.Implement the centralized loot system. Goes hand-in-hand with the first reason, but this would make sure that some items only exist in limited quantities. Say the devs really want to add a PK machinegun; it would obviously get a lot of flak from a lot of people who don't want DayZ to become a military game. They could alleviate it by having only 100 PKMs on all public servers (of many thousands of players). B)(Damn forums) Implement further end-game features (and features in general) Vehicles, everything; Cars, trucks, bikes, vans, pickups, motorcycles, ATVs, ultra-light aircraft, helicopters, airplanes, etc. Make sure vehicles can accommodate group & lone-wolf playstyles, and make parts as well as fuel rare. A new driving & flying system would also be great, so that the controls have to be learned. What group could resist fixing up a truck? Vehicles are an important factor in gameplay and people would definitely make good use of themBases, although they need to be done carefully. Games like The Forest are a good inspiration to look at, alongside the use of some machined parts would be a good addition. Makeshift shelters, tents, small shanty shacks, and even log cabins are feasible. Make it so you can build wooden or metal fences. Having the ability to barricade yourself in buildings would be nice, too. High-level things could include small generators to power floodlights or even pre-apocalypse technology.More new locations. There's a vast sea that takes up a huge expanse of the map. It would not hurt at all to add a few islands and possibly other areas out at sea. The devs should ensure that swimming to these locations is essentially impossible; you'll need a boat to get there (makeshift or fueled, your choice). The devs mentioned adding a prison, as well as the island of Utes to the map a while ago, and those give a good idea of where to go. (Utes may be pushing it, as it was canonically much further out to sea than the map shows). These spots could also be where most military/high-valued loot spawns, in order to prevent people from running straight to a base on spawn (highlighted because it's important)These aren't perfect solutions, as the real factor that they give off is just dragging on the amount of time it takes to get good gear, but a lot of the people who do PvP don't like waiting and slow-paced gameplay, so they'd either learn to deal with it or go somewhere else. Yes, it would still exist, but you'd end up seeing less of it overall. Just some of my insight, ;)

You know why cause cause he was apart of our playing squad and he got admin the 2nd week we were on the server. I along with many other people from our group refuse to play with him cause he is a power hungry abusive admin. He banned people for calling him out on Teamspeak cause he was losing the arguement, he banned people for blowing up vehicles in his base, he banned people for recording him abusing so they couldnt get him in trouble( i witnessed that with my own eyes in game, what a joke he is) he has teled me and other players against our say got us killed broke into safes at bases and he is just a all around idk IDIOT( i wanna call him a a-hole but idk if thats aloud) he berets people and calls them vulgar names. The point is he is not a good guy and never will be.   7. Was just one, I was being shot at before he killed me, and I was watching for quite awhile, and he was the only one I found crawling around. I'd also like to note, I do AI missions near perfectly every time, so I know how to kill AI. Something was unnatural about the way that AI took rounds to the neck, face, and chest.   9. Hey there ! DayZ is a funny game, and it's more funny to play that game when you play it with people, the more you are, the more fun you have ! I've played this game all alone, team up with some buddies sometime when I can (wich is incredibly rare) so I don't want to continue that way. But what is the best way to have fun, but yet playing ? Forming a squad ! I don't say that'll be a elite squad or indestructible squad or anything but I think we can have some fun playing all tactical but yet talking about anything while walking. I don't know if you see what I mean, but anyway. If you're a mature guy, ready to play nearly as tactical as a military squad for at least a day, but still be able to make jokes and laugh while flanking an enemy, you're welcome ! Here's the deal : We had each other on any communication device, like Skype, Steam, TS, whatever. Then, we all spawn as a new character in the world of dayZ, finding ourself and stuff ourself like any player have to do, but in a full team. I think the best day where almost anyone could be able to play for long would be tomorrow, sunday. That's all we could use as a squad : A squad leader (wich is me, but, well, we're just futur friend playin' so I don't really give order) A medic (He's the guy who will be in charge to keep all medicine and all, he'll have to duty to bloodbag any team player who lost a lot of blood, give morphine etc... He'll be our saviour) A heavy gunner (He's the guy who have the big gun, he know how to deal with armored vehicles and can do impressive suppressive fire) A sniper (he'll stay far away the fight and watch our back) At least two or three rifleman (That's the "basic" soldier, with no speciality like the sniper or anyway) Of course, evry guy in the squad will have one morphine, one painkiller, one bloodbag and bandage on him, in case he's isolated, but the medic will have all the squad's medical supply. The sniper won't stay alone, he'll have a rifleman to watch his back. As soon we have vehicle, we'll travel as a convoy. When we'll be in foot, we'll travel with specific formation. And we are a friendly squad, so we don't kill random player, just bandit. And zombie. If you are interested by playing in group, in a tactical yet funny way with more than two people, please, answer to that topic. Don't forget to tell wich role you want to assume in the squad and remember to play it cool ! We play for fun ! Please don't answer if not serious.     after death run back to storage ?

    You can't use realism as an argument because neither option is realistic in any sense of the word. How persistent storage is done is entirely an issue of gameplay, that is to say, in which direction the devs want to take the game: minimal loot and gear, in order to focus on the survival aspect of the game, or overabundance of gear (like Epoch) with the focus on gunplay with every kind of military equipment and loads and loads of vehicles of all sorts, to mention the extremes of either direction. Anyway this issue of persistent storage seems to be deeply connected to the issue of hives, one hive per server or public hive with some private hives or something completely different. An issue which we don't know much about how the devs will handle either.

    Destructible enviroment

    In a way its not true destructible. In arma things have always been "replaced" by other models, when destroyed, rather then actually falling apart. Both the buildings and vehicles, change models when destroyed, and we are most likely to see the same happening in DayZ. Its not a bad thing tbh, it would be awsome if we had true destruction, but the engine was never build to handle anything like that, so we will most likely never see it happening. We can live with the level of destruction we have atm, its perfectly fine. I still wonder though, can we destroy the new buildings they put in to the game? Have they made "destroyed models" for that yet? And will we actually get explosives in the end to do so? :)

    I'll get the few, puny negatives out of the way first so I can end on how damn good this patch is: - Nutrition: we *LOVE* the new nutrition mechanics, but we feel that the rate at which your hunger meter goes up is just a tad high. So far we've found that we spend the entire night gathering food and eating it, and haven't yet really had a chance to get into much PvP or repair vehicles - Exhaustion: I saw a post in the bug tracker pointing out how your player is constantly exhausted now, leading to massive amounts of gun sway. Even getting up from prone makes my character exhausted and I can't aim with a sniper rifle. Is this a bug or an intentional change? If it's intentional, I get the intent but it is too far. I hunt in real life, and I can walk or even run a dozen meters and still aim a rifle accurately. - Humanity: I *really* like how difficult the new medical system is (love the blood tester especially!). It really puts a much larger emphasis on hunting, which I think is great. However, it seems that now it will be nearly impossible to gain humanity at any significant level. Before this patch, if I killed a high humanity survivor in defense and became a bandit, it was possible to lose that skin by putting some effort into helping other players out with blood transfusions. However, now it's really difficult to get the proper medical supplies to give someone a transfusion. This will make gaining a significant amount of humanity a near impossibility, while you still lose a lot of humanity for killing survivors. Could this be changed by significantly increasing the amount of humanity given for administering medical care? Or possibly adding other ways to gain humanity? Okay on to the good: This patch is the best thing to happen to DayZ since I started playing. I absolutely love it! It really feels like the game I wanted DayZ to be when I first heard about it. We are now actually investing time into gathering resources and maintaining our equipment and health while playing. We are deathly afraid of zombies. We literally jump for joy when we find a cow, sheep, or goat roaming the fields. All of this really adds to the game, and the fantastic PvP element of DayZ is still present so now it all feels complete. The devs don't get nearly enough credit for the work put into this. It's too bad this patch was on hold for so long, as it's the most profound change to DayZ mod that I can remember.

    Any good Chernarus Epoch servers?

    hey everyone, sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong place i forgot how to start a new forum and what not. But if you guys are looking for a really nice fully militarized server with tow/ lift, auto refuel auto repair, rearm with rearm vehicles at base with rearm trucks, jets, attack helicopters, tanks, everything you want. understandable bases, plot poles cover more than just 30 meters, ai missions (ai base coming soon) the map is NAPF (Epoch) always looking for new clans and new players to join us and play with us and get the server populated. sorry the server is called Nexbo game center ip is 173.234.224.210:2302

    Any good epoch servers left?

    hey everyone, sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong place i forgot how to start a new forum and what not. But if you guys are looking for a really nice fully militarized server with tow/ lift, auto refuel auto repair, rearm with rearm vehicles at base with rearm trucks, jets, attack helicopters, tanks, everything you want. understandable bases, plot poles cover more than just 30 meters, ai missions (ai base coming soon) the map is NAPF (Epoch) always looking for new clans and new players to join us and play with us and get the server populated.

    This isn't Soviet Russia. Humvees,LMTVs,MRAPs,GAZ jeeps,Ural trucks and several other military vehicles are diesel powered. Also aircraft use JP-8 or JET-A.
  20. I would like to make a couple of points about loot, namely, how much should actually be found in-game. The truth of the matter is, it really depends on how long it has been since structured society shat the bed. I have seen many posts in "survival" threads about how people want loot spawns drastically reduced, about how finding only a little bit is "realistic", and how the player should be forced to rely on themselves. Again, I say the availability of loot is really dependent on the time-frame of the setting. See, I don't think many people realize just how much STUFF we produce as a species, and release into the environment. You can travel to the most desolate coastline in the world (Antarctica), and find enough accumulated detritus to build a mock Stonehenge out of toilet bowls (seriously, look it up) Point being, in the first few days/weeks after a TSC event, there would be a lot of "stuff" left over. Canned food, clothing, ammuntion, etc. With a major (if not most) of the population dead from zombe-ism (which is SIGNIFICANTLY different from a "realistic" TSC-event, where most of the dieoff would take place over months and years), there would effectively be a lot of stuff "left behind", as it were. Every player would be able to find multiple articles of factory-made clothing, (maybe) fresh fruit on shelves, including tropical species, ammunition by the caseload, etc. On the other hand, if you want "found" gear to be scarce, then the game would have to be set years after the TSC-event. Canned goods, even if rotated properly, only really can last 5 years. Modern (smokeless powder) ammunition degrades over time, so does gasoline. So, in this instance, gear would be extremely rare, and people would have to make their own spears/bows/primitive firearms, but that would (YMMV on this one, as I have a multitude of ideas about what could be done with this period of time) also severely limit group play. There would effectively be no vehicles, as they havent been produced for years, and have no fuel to run off of/no lubricants/no oil. There would be no M4A1 assault carbines, nor "modern" bullets to shoot. Clothing would be made of hides and crude cloth, and gear-carrying-equipment would be limited to small packs, bags, and belt pouches. There would be no morphine to fix broken legs, nor antibiotics to treat infections, just a cosh to the head to put you out of your misery. Essentially, Day z set in the 1700s. (Which, to be honest, I've developed a tabletop RPG set during a zombie apocalypse in the Jamestown Colony. Kicks ass, my players LOVE it. Up to you guys. You can't have both and cry realism.

For normal people yes but if you every spent any time in the military or a police unit you would know that uniforms and patches are designed to make it easier to determine a friendly from an unfriendly, without being able to see their faces or even know who they are. I agree that name tags are a bad idea (along with vehicles!) but Dayz needs a far more robust customization for players and clothing. One should not have to use inferior or completely inappropriate gear so they can make themselves stand out.
  22. Two cents worth on whether the game is hard or not. It can be. Most players choose for it not to be. Watch the servers empty when darkness hits even though you can adjust gamma. Reg servers always full as compared to hardcore servers struggling to fill. Hardcore night server ? the loneliest servers. Always daytime 3pp servers.. the full servers. [cry] oh but i can't see enough in a hardcore as opposed to real life and the night is too dark [/cry] Just like in the mod..people whine about wanting it to be hard because it is too easy..night time servers empty..1pp view servers empty. Every time a change is made were it requires more hits to kill a zed..WAHHH the zeds are too hard! Loot lessened WAHHHHH i can't find anything! Add 20 extra barracks and a 100 vehicles 3pp server..full all the time. Most of the players do not want a hard game anyway so what are y'all fighting about ?

    If you want both realism and balance, its as simple as stating that this is Chernarus about two years after the outbreak. Low amount of bullets, food, and crappy gun conditions would make sense due to two years of scavenging, killing, and societal degradation. As for gasoline, it itself doesn't really "go bad" or rather the additives in it do. The additional compounds separate and become grimy. It doesn't make the vehicle unusable, just sluggish and gunky. My cousin left her car sitting around for over a year and a half. It was annoying trying to start the car but it still worked, and could get you from point A to B just fine. Then again Toyota's are pretty tough compared to most vehicles.

    Balance and gameplay must supersede "realism" in this instance. I don't want to find tons and tons of food because I don't want hunting to be rendered irrelevant. Not because I think it's more realistic. If it's going to be a new system that they're dumping a significant slice of resources into, I want it to have a lasting effect on how we play the game. I don't see that happening so long as one can fill up on canned goods and fresh fruit, easily, from a residential house. Hunting is a more involved process than merely walking into a building and downing a can of beans, hence why I want it to be more relied-upon than looted food goods. Likewise, the same applies to the "gasoline goes bad" argument. Well, sure, but you can't really have vehicles if that were the case. So, we forgo "realism" to provide for a worthwhile system in-game. This is what I've been saying all along. I love "realism" and it's a great thing to factor into thinking about DayZ. But it's not a reason why something should be X. Nor is it useful when adhered to without compromise. Realism is only useful inasmuch as it supports the goals of DayZ as articulated by the developers. Similarly, it's only as useful so long as it is considered alongside pragmatic "gameplay" concerns. [EDIT - Recognize that I'm not referring to you personally, and I too place a great emphasis on the necessity for the establishment of a "timeframe" in DayZ]
