It had them do too much actually! Instant kill at any range and a few shots would destroy vehicles. If you want to change the damage you just change the numbers, there's nothing linked to caliber, it was the ARMA 2 dev's decision to base damage most all damages on muzzle energy.
-
Oh look, another whine thread. Devs are slow Updates are non existent Where's mah vehicles? Yet another one who skipped past the warning messages upon purchasing and clicking the play button.
-
When the latest exp hits stable I think it would be worth testing it out again. Offcourse there arent any vehicles yet and the zombies are still lacking numbers and buggy as hell, but it has alot of new cool things like animals, hunting, campfires and cooking and probably some other things I forgot about. Just check it out, and if you don't like it then just wait a few months more and then come back again...

Hi, I bought SA few days ago.. ..but short story long Why I want to play survival; Some game comparisons; Why I think DayZ SA is/can be unique and not comparable. And after all.. my first impressions. I like to play the games with my friends but since we are done with fc3 we are split to several games atm. That's why I am looking for a common game that is more teamplay than BF3/BF4/FC.. where every player just tries the rambo mode over and over again. All new survival games are in early access atm.. I am a software developer so I really understand what early access / alpha means. That simply means: If you want to compare with other games: Compare the supposed final state and not the current state. (Too many rash comparisons atm..) So the difficult part is to figure out which features are supposed to be that way and which are placeholders and which are just buggy. And of course which features will be improved or added. So please do not punish me if i see things wrong. At first to say about survival: It expects you to worry about your in-game life. After few death and respawns you realize it does not matter. After a few KOS you realize it makes no sense to worry at all. The only thing you are frustrated about is the time you spent and lost with a character or how easy it is to lose it because no one cares at all, or just about the stupid people.. Time is money. There are too many people out there who have too much time and the only money is their loot... Yep, its like real life, except int real life people don't KOS. People make the game, so every negative seeming point i state below does not matter as long as you got fun and nice experience especially with other people! But only if the the game supports and rewards interaction and the more things to do with others the more and longer will be the fun.. But keep in mind, fun is probably based on others frustration.. Like in most of the games.. (Spawn camping and so on) So here are the general differences between the survival games that I have evaluated (by many vids and some tested).. as far as I can tell atm. Plz tell me if I am wrong. If alone or in a group i think it makes not that difference in my listing below. Of course I can not include the fun with buddies so this seems more abstract now. Rust (tested): I really like the shooter gameplay in your own and other bases. You can design your own close quarter shooter base to your advantage Crafting is great, but gameplay feels not that deep atm and I am not sure if all the planed improvements will change this at all: 1. Survive and gather: 100% survival (gather food, build shelter, run or die) 2. Life and loot: 20% survival (got base, got tons of food, bad animals are no problem) 40% loot cool stuff you do not need for survival but is useful for pvp 20% defensive pvp - defend base (got little bit of good stuff for others. or defend just for fun raids) 20% offensive pvp - attack bases (get good stuff from others, or just for fun raids) 3. PVP: 0% survival. after little bit of pvp experience you just manage your respawn places. (food is still in da house) 40% base improvements - pvp survival. 40% defensive pvp - you did a nice job to gather loot that seems to be more useful to other players than to you. Or other do not know what to do else. 20% offensive pvp - you take revenge, or want to get more loot just to have more, or nothing else to do. 4. Lost and/or done everything: You got tons of loot you do not need. You lost tons of loot you never needed. Arma2 DayZ mod (watched many youtube vids) Because of Arma 2 as base the mod is more detailed/focused in war behavior. But since you can not carry that much stuff you have to take care about finding food and water all the time. 1. Survive and loot: 100% survival (find food/water and default equipment, stabilize yourself, avoid zombies and beware of players) 2. Gear up: 40% survival (find food/water, first aid, ..., avoid enemies, find friends.. risk it now than later) 60% loot gear (upgrade to have a chance in pvp) 3. Hero or Bandit 10% survival (find food/water, first aid, ...) 20% gear 70% pvp - look for players. Help other players. Roleplay, torture or what ever. 4. Base building: and so on.. DayZ standalone Since arma 2 is an older game and standalone is about to be more flexible and more in depth in survival, i decided to give SA a try. SA is more detailed in survival behavior like finding the can opener to open a can without loosing content. Hunting, fishing, and so on will be introduced too. To keep it short, it seems similar to the mod but the survival aspect is more complex and detailed than in the mod. SA => No Arma features.. the whole war stuff (weapons, vehicles, helicopters,..) has to be implemented step by step as far as they have planed to. Therefore the player focus will be at least 50% survival and 50% pvp? People love to express them self by the character. Simply: If you find clothing.. you like it or not. No base building atm: Building a base would be a visible group success. But in other hand you have to stick to one place or you will lose your base. Maybe some custom small camps with a safe would be nice. Structures will be damaged and removed (garbage collected) over time if not maintained. Arma 3 Breaking Point Port from Arma 2 DayZ mod. The fact that they have introduced a new class system for characters and a team/pvp reward system shows the focus on player interaction. I like that too. Summary: So actually if you are more about playing hero and kill bandits i think you would be annoyed by such details like opening cans or care about blood types.. (Different example: Arma 3 Altis Life video -> Nice Bank robbery roleplay with funny acting robbers and police men.. One suddenly and without any warning dies while arresting the robber.. dehydrated.. Funny, but does this fit?) You spend your time in player-interactions and roleplaying and so on and got hit by stupid survival basics with lack of body feedback? really? In the other hand, if you want more survival you would be annoyed by people they just don't care about your life and KOS. You do not want to spent your whole time to survive just to trash all for one person that is not able to interact or do at least some funny entertaining roleplay that leads to your death or not. It is real life?.. but not mine. And in real life you don't bother anymore when you are dead.. I like both ways.. pvp and survival but I think it is not that easy to mix both in full depth without wasting time in both ways. Spending time to find a can opener for better survival does not make sense when you are about to go into a battle where you want to get reward points but get killed. Or if succeed a hard battle it does not make sense at all that you just die because you can not open a can just by smashing it onto the ground.. There is no time for unreal reality in the game just to prepare for respawn ;) I like hero vs bandits and since i know that "plain detailed complex survival" and "heroes vs bandits" does not work for me in one game, i perhaps will play the Breaking Point mod as well :) And now my first DayZ SA impressions. Great game and i think it tends to be one of the best survival games when they keep pushing survival by environment rather than killing people. Me as an :emptycan: : After hitting some zombies over and over again i figured out that their blood is nothing more than animation and that they are immune to certain weapons even when they where knocked out few times.. I know how to strafe and kill zombies. But lost to much blood on glitching zombies (10m away and hitting) and did not know how to recover. I tried and felt good but did not know that i could feel better. Sorry but it looks like on purpose and it seems this is defended by many players - Keep the UI free and let the player know how he feels just by the effects and not by brain feedback displayed as bars. In real life I can tell how hydrated I am and how hungry I am and how i feel on a scale from 1 to 10. (And i even know if i feel weak on blood when i close my eyes and do not see any color at all ;)). In real life you need to know how much energy you have else you could not ration your stamina at sport activities. But in the game i have got some kind of pager and the status from ?? to ?? in.. in my inventory? I do not see the real life behavior in this. If something starts to get better it should be visible how fast something makes you feel better.. just to compare things and so on. (Check out The Forest game, nice food, stamina and energy handling) Because.. I was just eating until not complaining. I was just drinking until not complaining. After i thought i am fine all the time,.. I was surprised that i can be energized. After a while.. I was surprised that i can be hydrated. And then.. I was surprised that i can be healing. Yes it is playable without status bars and yes the game likes to be real. But no measurable brain feedback (status bars with min max) just makes me feel like a zombie and that is far away from reality  I am still not sure if healed means I am fine. Or if i still could have some more blood. My screen looks fine but i do not trust my in-game body anymore. With blood i read this and that, you get blood only by blood bag? Makes no sense at all or at least no sense for the person who gives it to you. Just forces pvp to rob peoples blood until they are dead ;) Yep i will find out. But the thing is, do i really need to ask people how my body works? Anyways... I play on low populated servers just to learn the game and figure out if I want to stick to survival.. So actually in the 3 days i only heard some shooting somewhere.. My problem now is, i got everything i wanted to have.. Inventory is full of First Aid Kits ready to help some people. But I don't want to loose all of this to a stupid KOS player  I am looking forward tho the new patch hf

Im not sure we have read the same forums. I think hunting has had mostly positive feedback and vehicles kinda split people in two groups, theres no consensus on that matter. And when you really think about it, which one is more essential to the gameplay? Adding cars so slackers can get from A to B faster, or adding survival elements like hunting? Im not saying cars are bad, but really dude, your post made no sense.

still no persistent storage still no vehicles Still have poor dispersion for weapons and weapon stats modified by attachments ohh and zombies havent been fixed one bit.

I like the humanity system, it gives dayz an 'arcade' twist. The fact that some players will set a goal for themselves such as being a hero or having 10k humanity which takes a long period of time is awesome. I'd love to see something like the standalone's papers system where you could write down stuff. It would be nice to see new vehicles in the mod, that fits the post-apocalyptic terrain. Maybe a modeler could make a nice looking hippy van wish some kush in the trunk B)

Impression of Standalone (from a DayZ Mod Veteran)
Yuval replied to chrismgtis (DayZ)'s topic in New Player Discussion
I've read your first line and stopped. This game worth purchasing more than any other game you'll find on steam in my opinion. The climate of the DayZ playerbase is so cool and I really hope it will stay like that as much as possible. The warm feeling when you see a full-geared guy helping a freshspawn giving him food to start with is great, and then see a group of bandits handcuffing that freshspawn and make him sing while they force feed him with rotten fruits is funny. When vehicles will be added, the whole gameplay will change. The different between dayz mod and dayz sa is that in DayZ mod players will focus on property, and by property I mean repair their own car and build their own base (In the DayZ mod, base means 3 tents to store stuff in...). DayZ SA's playerbase won't focus on getting as much items as possible but it focuses on player interaction mostly. I don't think the mod had half of the player interaction being done in the standalone everyday. It's just amazing to see players running around 225 (or even more) square kilometers map looting houses, shooting each other and acting so weird, and sometimes nicely. If you'll run around the coast you'll encounter different players and if you'll get lucky you might end up meeting a group of bandits stripping off another player while he sings "Wrecking Ball". -
Is it worth buying Dayz standalone yet? [With Developer responses]
Yuval replied to Blade4777980's topic in General Discussion
To be honest, despite my extreme passion to edit DayZ SA to something more unique when (if) it will be possible. I wish that dayz sa will stay in his current state as much as possible! The fact that there aren't vehicles and not many guns is great. When vehicle will be added, half of the map will be building their base and the other will be DMing each other across the map. The devs job is to balance the features in order to make this situation impossible in the future. If they do that dayz will be the greatest game in history (after pacman champion edition). -
Oh yeah, in SA I can find 1st person servers all the time that has people on it, in Dayz Mod there is noone. And if I find one it has 200+ vehicles 24/7 daylight and all that crap. Name 1 server that has this: 1st person only, day and night mode and vanilla settings like ZeroSurvival.net and has more than 15 players. I don't know what browser you have that magicly has alot of these servers, in my browser they are nonexistant. I would be forever grateful if you find one for me... Read all my posts and you'll see that having this option doesn't cater to me at all.... When Im a bandit I don't want everyone to know where Im doing it, and as it is in SA now, nobody gets announced where I am. And if they do it over walkie talkies, then fine, because that would be realistic, and youll have to find one first and not everyone would be listening, and when you got one it could get ruined too so you loose that ability or maybe your battery dies out etc. And not everyone has one from the start as they would with sidechat... As it is now it's harder, and I think it should stay that way. Knowing where bandits are or announcing it should be a privilige you earn by finding these items ingame and not somehting you automaticly get when logging in. With sidechat the bambie would always know where to go and where not too to be safe, takes away all the risk of being a survivor.... And I have 2 walkie talkies, and it's always turned on on the default and another channel. I have not yet heard a single soul talking on them so for the moment even the walkie talkie doesn't serve as sidechat. I have yelled 100 of times into the mic on the default frequency and not once has my call been answered...Theres is no one spammign the frequencys with info at all, no one. Heck I even wish sometimes that more people talked with them, because it's a cool 'realistic feature'. I kinda feel like Rick in walking dead where he tries to connect with that first surviver he met but never get an answer... If sidechat was there I'll bet it would be constant chatter there all the time just like in the mod and everyone would see it because they don't need to find a radio first..
-
There is only one decent one in there and that is ZeroSurvival.net but it has 3rd person view so it doesn't fit me..... Rest are just crap 200+ vehicles and selblodbagging and shit. And that ZeroSurvival server is empty most of the time of day I play....Find me a server like it but with 1st person only that is populated and I'll be grateful and I'll shut up... And also find me a Namalsk server that is close to ZeroSurvival.net that is populated, heck even one with 3rd person as long as it's not 24/7 daylight and 200+ vehicles.... And also I just browsed dayz commander just know, and it doesn't even have close to the numbers that's in your screenshoot, only 2 servers with more than 15 players and they are crap... If I filter out 3rd person, I get one server that has any players(13) but it has 999 vehicles..... This is what has fucking happend to the mod and I wouldn't like it to happen to Dayz SA too..
-
Giving admins to much choice on the servers isn't good at all, look at what happend to the mod. Try find a populated server today that doesn't have 1000+ vehicles, self bloodbagging and all that bullshit. Most people when given the option seems to choose the easy way and that ruined the mod. I'd say force everyone to play Dayz SA like it was supposed to be(hard), that way it won't be ruined like the mod with all these COD kids paradise servers. Give us realism instead of easymode, where you always know where bandits are because it gets announced over sidechat and you know where all the heros to you rescue are because they annonce it too you, also I don't want my position to be revealed when Im a bandit, takes away the element of surprise and makes it too easy for heros to hunt me down.

Anyway .... -Make loot harder : as you can see ( I think ) there are servers with high loot and even high power gear at spawn, what that means ? CoD kids like that so ... you know -Zombies : agree, but number of AI affetcs a lot pc's so can fill server with them and you see all glitched zeds every where ( even on SA ) so ... you know -Private hives : I just play on private, but really annoying the register stuff and its a small comunity ( most of times ) -Base building and farms : sorry but .... http://store.steampowered.com/app/220260/ -Vehicles : 100% agree ( be happy lol )

DayZ: Quarantine, an rMod and Epoch based semi-story following server.
Borg184 posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
A terrible virus has struck the Chernarussian region. Humans, with symptoms ranging from extreme aggression, to sporadic movements, and most importantly, a taste for other, non-infected humans; suddenly shows up in the area. In a move to protect its own assets, the Chernarussian Defense force teams up with the Russian Army, and Chernarus is quarantined, by the people who once claimed to protect it. This leaves you. A lone survivor lost in a fight you cannot hope to win. Will you stand your ground, and fight back against the invading Russian forces, and even your own government that seems to have turned on you? Or will you take this moment of anarchy to do as you please, stockpiling supplies for the unknown future? That is for you to decide. Just remember, watch your back, as sometimes not even your fellow survivors can be trusted. This is DayZ: Quarantine in a nutshell. (If you just want a list of features, scroll to the bottom, everything else is a sales talk anyway) Based off of an old series of servers, going by the name of Anyone in Cherno? And Chernarus Divided, DayZ: Quarantine is the unofficial successor to both of these servers. These servers operated with a basic premise, provide the normal, stock DayZ Experience, but add in one major twist. AI. The map is custom made in the ARMA 2 editor, with checkpoints, patrols, and other groupings of AI, scattered all across the map. This brings a whole new level of gameplay to DayZ, one that not a lot of servers do properly. Now a days, tons of servers have "AI" in them. These are, typically, little more than events that take place on a random timer, across the map, and whoever can get to them, kill 12 AI with guns gets all the loot in the area. This isn't Quarantine's take. Quarantine has AI, placed around the map, by hand, that are always there. No optional missions, they ARE there, and they are a force to be reckoned with. But what's the POINT of all of these AI? Where are the rewards for me? Well, that comes from killing the AI themselves. You have perfect free reign to take the weapons and vehicles of the AI around the map. Wipe out a checkpoint? All those guns are yours. Knock out the crew of a BMP-2? Enjoy it while it lasts. Quarantine has a new balance of things too. People are rarely aggressive towards each other. Most people will (typically) team up to go after AI, and split the rewards amongst themselves, rather than say... shooting each other to get more gear. Instead, the AI are the main antagonists of the server. Towns with infantry patrolling inside of them, and armored checkpoints outside of them become threats AND places to loot now. DayZ: Quarantine, basically, offers a new level of DayZ Gameplay. We go from making players the biggest threats, to making AI a comparable threat. That one change alone is enough to shake up the gameplay of the server significantly. All that's missing is you, so why not come give it a try? And now, the official feature list, if you will: * DayZ Epoch 1.0.4.2 * rMod 1 or 2, 1 is preferred however. * 6 hour restarts * JSRS Support * No traders. The traders, and their cities, have been completely removed from the map. Yes, I realize this shakes up some of the gameplay of Epoch, making it harder to get certain things, like base building supplies, or plot poles, and it also makes most metals worthless, however this server is supposed to stick to a much more vanilla DayZ Experience. We use Epoch for its other features, not just traders. * Self Bloodbagging * R3F Towing, with a custom config. * AI, of course. A militarily armed AI force, spread across (most of) the map, with more updates coming constantly. * With AI, comes weapons, and armed vehicles. It is perfectly acceptable to go Hijack a T-72 and use it for your own purposes. However, be warned that for balance and due to the way the AI are plugged into the map, AI vehicles disappear upon server restart, going back to their old positions. All other, normally spawned vehicles, are safe, however. So what are you waiting for? Come join us, take a look around, and see for yourself. Our IP is 69.39.239.138, with the port of the server being 3408. Additional info: Our forums How to join If you have any questions, feel free to post here, or PM me, and I'll answer you as soon as I can. Thanks for reading. -
I found an awesome dayz server! - Cosmic Bunny Gaming.. -Check it out
Georgey posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Cosmic Bunny Gaming Hey there everyone! Looking for a very good dayz server? I've found the one after lots of searching! This server has ALOT of things to do..! Many, many, MANY custom scripted buildings and areas that are fully working without bugs/glitching.. I've been looking for a server like this for a long time. The server is also slightly new, and is lead by a very good scripter and mapper. He knows his stuff. There is alot of abilities and he's been focusing alot about those small details that is fun. There is several traders, slightly further away from eachother, so you'll have to work a bit more. It's an extremely well AI system, that is very realistic and great! It's very different to the other AI systems people just find on the web.. He got help to create this one..! This is just some of what the server has: - Emerald interior design - Bike deploy - Halo jumping - Quick snap - Custom mappings - Indestructable bases (except wooden structures) - Active administrators - Auto refuel - Tow/lift - Safe traders - Self blood bag - Weekly events, which is very fun, as you can win alot of gear of vehicles. - + Many, many, many more stuff! Hope you liked what you've seen so far, and I hope you hop along with us.. It's a very good server with a good community and mature people. The server is semi-medium active and is starting to get more and more popular at the moment, due to the good script. So please hop in TS in any time, and or, ingame and we'll see you then! TS IP: tseu4.vilayer.com:9999 DayZ server IP: 82.36.207.204 :2302 Have a nice day, Georgey -
Hmm. I agree with a lot of this. My thoughts: ManInTheWall (OP) Make loot harder to find > Not so sure about this. I think the availability of basic loot (food, clothes etc) is about right. There's a threshold below which the game will become too much of a grind to survive, and will no longer be fun. As the game expands in complexity, it makes sense to free players up to do the fun stuff like base-building etc. Maybe the issue at the moment is that there's not enough other stuff to do once you have geared up with the essentials. Make Zombies a threat > Agreed, but having hundreds of zombies is going to be difficult to achieve in this engine, no? I think even hordes of 10-20 would be a huge improvement on what we have now. This shouldn't be implemented until we can secure buildings against zombies though. Private Hives > Dunno about whitelist servers etc. To me the whole point of the game is being able to choose whether to be friendly, or an a-hole, or somewhere in-between. I think the more idiotic strains of KOS behaviour will become less relevant once the gameplay acquires more depth, and there are real bonuses to playing in groups and trying to build something significant. Not that everyone will play nice all of a sudden, but more effort/aggression will be channeled into raiding bases, holding territory, acquiring vehicles etc. Base building and farms > Yes, would love to see this. Would be good if you could stockpile food and equipment in persistent storage containers. Again, the fun will be in building up a secure and well-equipped base, so that other players face a choice between asking for your help, or infiltrating and betraying you, or raiding you outright and taking over. Imagine if you could hold down an entire town, and control all the resources (fertile land, fuel, machinery, building materials) that go with it! I think this kind of thing needs to persist over multiple play sessions / server resets, allowing an epic ebb and flow of who controls what. I know this will require a lot of thought and possibly re-working of the way servers work (e.g. what happens when the "owner" of a base logs out, or where two groups build a base in the same location but on different servers and then try to log in to the same server as each other). Still, I think it's the key to DayZ becoming about more than just running around looking for trouble. Consequences > Agree with everything here except suppression effect. For less experienced players, getting shot at will induce panic IRL, while more experienced players will keep a cool head. Adding "meta" mechanisms over the top of this will get annoying. One extra "consequence" that has been suggested before: dying should mean a ban from the relevant server until it resets. This would go some way to reducing death-match style play. Even more so if death meant you could no longer log in to a map containing a base that you'd built (maybe for 24 hours). Vehicles > Yes, agreed. Scavenging parts, tools etc should be important, and you shouldn't be able to carry massive items like tyres etc in your backpack (thought that aspect of the mod was a bit odd). In line with my other comments above, I see vehicles as an incentive to co-operate (to acquire/fix them) and a way to dominate territory. Daringd Playing as a zombie would be great - I like your ideas for zombie-vision etc. Maybe you could also have a zombie growl/snarl/yell that attracts other zombies, so individual zombie players could also influence the movement of zombie NPCs?

Will zombie behavior ever be addressed?
Goove replied to Ransurian's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
i have wondered this for some time now. I feel after the nerfed the weapons, now i just use my first to kill Zeds.. Its much easier and way less of a pain. So now i dont even carry melee weapons. I just dont understand the Aggro table, anytime ive thought i have figured it out..something new and crazy happens that makes me scratch my head. My main thing about this Alpha was that they should take all the resources and fix the base of the game. I.E Buildings, Mechanics, and Zeds before throwing all this new up coming content down the pipeline. Fix the foundation and make it stable, and then this game can flourish. Two many hands all working on dif things cant be good. Its a zombie survival game!! Damn the weapons, damn the crossbow, damn the vehicles, damn hunting, damn base building......Get the base fixed then take your time on everything else. Zombie rabbits are still around hahah Happy DayZ
