I totally agree with you, there is no good vanilla servers on the mod anymore, every server you go in will have 5000 vehicles spawned, with a military grade starting gear.. and most crowded servers will have donator features as well. I do enjoy private hives and the ability to slightly modify the mission file ..but the community has abused this in the mod and I don't see why they wouldn't in the Standalone. That being said, I miss the good old days where there wasn't 400 sub mods of DayZ and heavily modified mission files on the Vanilla version. :(

    Handcuffing people to something

    -----EDIT----- For the people that don't know, if you log out with handcuffs on, you get killed, so it wont ruin the game even when you get hydrated/energized to full so you will survive for a long time, you can just log out and respawn--------Back to the description-----Like the title says, you should be able to handcuff people to something, for example fence, you can still get them off by struggling, but you can move a lot (max 2 steps yh i know not a lot but i dont think it would make sense if you could move around when hancuffed to something) with vehicles it could be a good fun having a bandit handcuffed to your car back and just him sliding on the road and attach a sign onto him saying "This is gonna happen to all bandits :)" Just a good way to use bandits instead of just killing them, and them having a pain so they would stop, yeah has its plusses and minuses, thanks for reading, write below what you think.

Hello, ive been thinking about this for a while, and what they should add in future for vechicles, i was thinking about finding a car from e.g balota and collecting its parts, or just finding a vechicle that can be used instantly, being able to put locks in them, attach guns, machetes ( for damaging players) bulletproof windows/ doors, basically making out of a terrible car, a tank pretty much, making, customizing your car with more seats, specific engines and attaching guns like in the military vehicles in real life, ive never played the mod so i dont know if this is in the other dayz but im pretty sure it isnt, also transporting players lets say in the back of the vehicle, the storage part, so if they are prone and lets say someone is shooting the car and they are taking heavy fire, the person at the back could crouch look out through window and start firing back at them, or attaching a m4 or light machiene gun (if they add one in future) to the cars to protect them selves. It's what ive been thinking for a while and should be worth talking about, because im looking towards base building, and vehicles the most in this game. Thanks for reading this.

    bridge between map and utes (late content)

    Holy crap, I didn't even know it was that far off the coast. Yeah no way in Hell they would make a bridge to Utes. Yeah, there's no real way to get to it so they took it out, otherwise they'ed have zombies and items just lagging up the server for no good reason. I've heard conflicting things, that they're not going to put it back in, and that they're going to put it back in when they add in air vehicles and boats.

  6. A simple thing like randomizing player spawn points would do wonders to change the pacing of the game. Setting it on the coast is the biggest flaws of this game. because that makes the game completely linear and predictable. Everybody runs to the towns to loot and most never venture inland at all. They only will once vehicles become availible. They also need to give characters meaning. Let us learn skills from all those books. Let us have Power Stations we can bring back on line. Green Mountain radio stations we can control. Let us search around bases and medical facilities for story lore. Give us custom features for chars so we get attached to the way our char looks and junk. DayZ needs to grow from being a mod into a game. It still feels like a mod. WHERE IS THE ART DIRECTION? The no.1 that makes great games is art direction. What is the story you're trying to tell? Why is the character in this world? What must the character do to overcome thier struggles. Make the player feel like they have an impact and its not just counterstrike on a really big map
  7. Those pictures are not of any official AK for the Standalone that i know of. There are a lot of relic items left over from Arma though, vehicles and such which will never make it into the game as they are all being redone. Have no fear the mighty AK will make an appearance soon enough.

    There will most certainly be vehicles in future updates since there were vehicles and sometimes airplanes & helicopters in DayZ Mod on Arma 2.

    I used to axe locked vehicles on Epoch to do the same thing on night servers.. ..people would come from km around to see what the noise and fire was.. only to find my rounds quickly exiting through their brain housing. ;)
  11. Anyone know Why battleye acted wierd after the update of experimental? Had loads of spams and loads of game crashes as well. Do you think Vehicles,wildlife will be bugfree and ready for end date? Are you crazy to think that they don't need to be tested, freaking hats and masks are even buggy as hell and takes ages to get fixed. Zombie count even not enough and servers are struggling with performance issues along with clients without core features. Do you really know how things really works? Because it seems you are the one Who have no idea. Everything needs to be tested and should be in Alpha and the Beta, so you can actually see if they work or not before the official release. So hence the guy that you were flaming had a better point than your crappy buttlicking.
  12. Nah, from my experience (since july 2012) in the mod, and my time spent in DayZero... The mod was fine early on but now it has very little legitimate players left. The mod is rife with ESP map hackers because there is no way of defeating that hack. So they will always know where you are, where all the vehicles are, and where all the zombies are. So you'll find them helicoptering around scooping all the vehicles and crash sites. Which of course leads to them hunting everyone else down... Its not very fun.
  13. Hey Jimmy, yes i wrote this in anger after being repeatedly dumped on by US3480, however it IS a good server, it has many players and some of them are quite fun to play with. Yet i keep getting my vehicles teleported from me after restart, even though i stop the car way before and i even tried saving it multiple times and i honesty swear the server did keep crashing. I am fond of vehicles in game and i use them alot, so after getting killed by hackers i quit for awhile (made this forum post) When i returned i brought some friends, and after a few hours we get killed by a hacker (no doubt) The reason why i said that you did not care about combat loggers is because i asked you ingame why there wasn't anything done about it (at that point i had 700 hours played on AWA and had no idea how official servers worked) and you simply replied that there was nothing that could be done and that you really didn't care about combat loggers, stating that the only people that cared about such things were KOS bandits. Usually i am not a KOS bandit but i still hate them, i do care about finishing my kills if i otherwise engage. Another thing is rank of official servers does not interest, well because i think that alot of players don't give two sh*ts about the server they play on simply because they hang around a hospital roof in elektro and are quite content with a server that's packed of other elektro/cherno campers or bambies, but that's just my own opinion of it and i know that alot of people will disagree. On a different note i did enjoy your server to a certain extent, and i enjoyed our little talks when i was suggesting something and i am sorry for rushed words in OP. When the server stops taking my vehicles i will surely come back, and i will bring the group of players i play with daily (if we will not have found a private hive) I want to thank everyone for the replies, and if anyone can point me to a private hive i will be in their debt Last i want to say again that the server i am looking for can not be overly enhanced, some one replied to me by PM a server that was so full of modded stuff (self bb, AS50's) I am surpised that it isn't a mod with it's own name like epoch and all that

    That's if they do batching. Occlusion culling is very delicate balancing act between what you can gain from the occlusion and what you lose testing for occlusion. By experience it just doesn't work properly when there is a lot of objects as potential occluders. DayZ (and the rv engine in general) could probably benefit from autobillboards but there might be technical reasons as to why they aren't doing it yet (air vehicles?).

    @ricp: first i wanted to answer with the same "sarcasm" i saw it is used here a lot... then i have reconsidered. here is my answer... first of all i do thank you for your input. but that was NOT a debate. i just wanted to post 2 of my ideas and i was'nt doing for the sake of arguing. period. second: i do suggest that you should use a NVG at least once. if you think that it transforms night into day (with no down side) then you seem to have used one that not even US army have yet. if you don't have one at hand right now, do the following test: take a toilet paper cardboard tube, stick it to your eye and go outside in daylight and try to live like that in a city for an hour. that will suffice. people generally tend to think that NVG in real life are behaving like NVG in pc games. they have a lot of downsides you know...go outside with one on the country side and with a cloudy night, in a forest you will be blind literally. right... you will be better with a flashlight. i have the latest gen3 SFK model (special forces kit) with tube made in december 2012 and believe me it is not the same as walking outside in daylight, even if i just have to consider the field of view not to mention light issues/resolution. third: since this is a survival game/exercise how come you people are so selective? there are helicopters alowed to be had (later i presume) and all sort of weapons and vehicles in a post apocalyptic world but the NVG are not around ???(these are INCREDIBLE simple devices although expensive because of the intensifier itself but very very hard to break). Even Russia (where the action takes place) have A LOT of last generation NVG and even if they do not compare 1:1 with latest ITT and L3 tubes they are still good and efficient. I suppose the place should not be a problem since a lot of US technology made it up in the game anyway... last: if this game is about a scenario in a post-apocalyptic world i think those who just said NO should think about the rest of the things that should be "NO" in this game. all the firearms for that matter... it is harder to find a firearm than to find a NVG. in real life that is... later edit: @Rickenbacker thank you. those were my youth days... i am very much alive and seems to stay that way now...

  17. This week saw us start our “survival” gameplay focus. This means most of our gameplay development focus is on refining the survival aspects of the game. We detailed some of the initial work for this last week. Trying to get 0.37 to stable Our main focus this week was to deploy a new version of the game to stable branch. We have two public “branches” of code, stable and experimental. A deployment to stable branch of the latest version of the game was scheduled for Wednesday, however we were not happy with some of the issues that remained. Three major code changes have been occurring. We have been changing the way collision works to solve a number of bugs, such as shooting while prone colliding with the world and zombie collisions. Also our new physics system has been implemented, allowing us to have throwing, dragging, ragdoll, and even vehicles. In addition, a new guaranteed network message system has been developed to solve network issues, improve client/server performance, as well as reduce the “desync” issues experienced by many. A number of bugs came out of these developments, two of which cause situations where players and zombies can become invisible to some clients. We want to solve this issue before we deploy to stable. You can try the current version out for yourself on experimental branch. Survival Cooking Progress continued with the development of several different kinds of fireplaces, and has moved onto creating assets for constructible ovens. These items will be persistent in the world, allowing the player to cook many things. The temperature system developed in the engine has been refined to have correct return from hot or cold to ambient temperature. Survival Combat A new area of work commenced this week is combat directly supporting survival. This includes throwing items, bows and arrows. We now have a great new animation for throwing, and the system developed for this will allow us to support proper animations for bows (e.g. drawing bow back, awaiting player input to fire). The next week Both Survival Combat and Cooking are our gameplay focus for the next few weeks, with our primary goal to get 0.37+ deployed to stable as soon as possible. We’re also looking ahead further now towards how to best position ourselves to release vehicles, barricading, and advanced physics. Etc (water bottle) (gascan) (cantine etc)2: You should be able to take gasoline from a dead car with a hose. however the player should be sick for a short period of time due to gasoline in their mouth, However charcoal tablets and antibiotics should remove the sickness within 1-2 minute or so Cars/busses and vehicles in general should have random functionality! - examples below examples of random functionalityVehicle health - (broken tires-random from 0% broken to low air, 1,2,3,4 broken tires) (Carbattery energy 1-100 -RANDOM) (different levels of gasoline in the tank, also random) Player 1: Finds a car, unable to start due to dead car-battery- The car has gasoline so the player can hose gasolin to a container (in this case 3 water-bottles) - because he has no gasoline tank. Player 2: Find a car, unable to start due to empty tank. The car also has a flat tire on the right rear side. the battery is at 60% player 3: Finds a car. Able to start, has little gasoline, all 4 tires are flat but hes able to drive anyhow (slippery and a bit hard to control but the vehicle is working. player 4: Finds a car, (dead carbattery) and a full gastank. There is a carbattery nearby so the player switch the batteries and is able to drive away with all 4 wheels intact. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The high swing hits to the right of the character wich makes it hard to hit anyone (The low swing works perfect)The high swing should take 100% more time to complete but deal 100% more damage, this way bad melee weapons can be more decent. the high swing should be centered exacly like the low/fast swing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Melee weapons suggestions:- Knuckles- baseballbat with whire on it (or you have to cut down a fence and attatch it to a baseballbat)- Baton (police batons)- Scythe (so that more weapons can be found in fields, sheds, or farmers lands etc)- (use knife on baseballbat) = Wooden sword or a small wooden spearHacksaw: to be able to use it to saw on people - Bullet proof vest- Night vision googles- Military backpacks (so hunter backpack isnt the only option)- Combat gloves- Knuckles- Belt pouch (belly)- extended mags for pistols 20-30- Drum mags for assault rifles (60+) and one smaller drum mag for pistol (40-50)- Police riot gear, Full protective hard plastic gear (should protect against fists, baseballbat crowbar etc)This type of gear would be found in a police station, etc ------------------------- Fnx45 (Pistol flashlight attatchment) - Should be able to scroll with mouse to turn (on/off) the flashlightM4a1 (bayonet) - Should be able to use as a melee weapon with a decent range. - this way you can carry your gun without having to shoot zombies to attract attention. There are more uses aswell, but this is very effective if you want to sneak without switching weapons on every zombie encounter -Remove the Reloading of weapon when entering a server(lets say you log out for the night because you are finished, join a server and you start by reloading your guns)(this attracts attention if theres anyone nearby and you can be shot before you even pulled your gun if unlucky)(also if the gun is loaded when you logout, theres no reason to reload it when you join a server, however if you have 0ammo in your mag when entering a server it should reload if possible) - Attatch flashlight, or a pistol flashlight to a pistol or weapon with duct tape - bayonette on a shotgun- sawed off shotgun to the leg then use rope and attatch it to a persons arms, if they move, the shotgun shoots in their leg, causing allot of bleeding and eventually death. - Note (paper) + Blood bag. (you can now write on the blood bag)- note (paper) + objects, etc backpack, helmet, weapon, etc iether to mark them (this is my gear etc) or just for fun when people find the items or the notes.- Note (paper) + Wall etc. Post notes on walls for people to read.- weapon/pistol or regular flashlights on any type of weapon or for example on top of your helmet. or on your Feet.- Knife or bayonette on a baseball bat, now with increased damage
  21. From the perspective of an experience DayZ Mod player, former Hero (11k humanity in the mod), and about 1 year total playing DayZ Mod/Standalone combined. The first thing that you must understand about DayZ, is that it is NOT a quality First Person Shooter. If what gets you your kicks is tight gun mechanics and fast paced game play, then there are better FPS games that do it better. Insurgency and CS:Go, as example. If what gets you off is driving around in military vehicles firing heavy weapons, again, you should look to games like the Battlefield franchise or even ARMA III. If zombie apocalypse games are your fancy, DayZ probably isn't the best for that either. What makes DayZ unique is the role playing element of player interactions. In other games, the lines between "good" and "evil" are easily distinguished by "Red team vs Blue team". In DayZ, the lines are blurred between friend, foe, hero, bandit, and survivor. Odds are, none of us fit into any one of these labels perfectly at all times. I think I can speak for most heroes when I say; sometimes we make questionable calls and we may kill someone who didn't deserve it.. Or maybe we should have killed someone when we didn't.. True bandits steal from people and hold them up, but the word "bandit" has become synonymous with "murderer". People who camp the coast shooting fresh spawns aren't "bandits", as the traditional definition of the word would imply. They are just bored players looking to get their thrills by bullying fresh spawns. Not that Fresh Spawns are innocent. Anyone on the coast (except for a first timer), go there by dying somehow.. Many of them probably at an airfield or within Elektro or Berezino where they may have been trying to kill someone else who may or may not have had it coming. The reality is, everyone makes their own justifications for why they did things and rationalizes why it was the right thing to do. There's a lot of people on these forums (and in game) who have this "trust no one" mentality, and take a cynical view of the entire community, assuming that everyone is out to get them. This may actually be true in their world. There are KOS murderers out there, and I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing. There are also "bandits" who will hold you up, take your pants and shoes, feed you disinfectant spray, then laugh and torture you, beat you up, and leave you handcuffed and sick in the middle of the road... If you're lucky, they might kill you. There are also epic heroes which will counter-snipe the Elektro/Kamy/Solnichny/Berezino campers, and even come give you food and medical attention. These people do exist, for better or worse. But... These are the extreme ends of the spectrum, and the odds are the majority of the players you meet in game fall somewhere in between these extremes. What defines skill in DayZ is not your ability to kill other players, or how long you survive. It's not difficult to survive for 6 months, if all you do is camp out in the woods and loot unoccupied servers. It's also not difficult to wrack up 20+ kills on a single character life if all you do is snipe from a hill, shooting people who don't even know you're there. It's not difficult to murder someone who has no gear, or who has their back turned, or who is outnumbered 5 to 1. Skill in DayZ is the ability to balance risk, and make an impact on the world. If you never see anyone then there's no point in even playing on a multi-player server.. And if all you do is camp fresh spawns, how does that make you skilled? It's clearly an unfair fight, and you're a bully. You have to ask yourself what is more rewarding for you, and what is more rewarding for the people around you. I have had amazing gun fights with geared players that dragged on for several hours, and even though I may have died (sometimes more than once), I felt blessed to be involved in such an epic battle. People usually will KOS you if they feel you are a threat and they have an advantage on you. If you are a good player, you can mitigate the chances of people KOSing you by outwitting everyone on the server and not putting yourself in harms way to start with. Likewise, you can avoid being held up by being the one on your toes and avoiding the situation before it begins. Here are a couple rules of thumb to help you avoid unnecessary deaths and KOSing.. 1. DO NOT depend upon anyone else but yourself. It is good to have friends, but you should carry/have access to everything you need without having to beg, borrow, or steal from anyone else. 2. DO NOT loot bodies. Really.. Unless you are 100% sure you are safe to do so, DO NOT loot bodies. One of the major mistakes inexperienced players make is running up to a body and attempting to grab some quick loot off of it. You do not know who else could be watching or where from. If you stop to loot a body, you're taking a risk. Sometimes this risk may be worth it, but it's usually not. 3. DO have a clean and organized inventory. Have your important items on your hotbar. Personally, I set it up as follows: 1. Primary, 2. Secondary, 3. Melee, 4. Bandage, 5. Compass, 6. Canteen, 7. Morphine, 8. Handcuffs, 9. Handcuff Keys, 10. Misc (Map, med kit, carry case, etc) 4. Learn the map. Know the hot spots, cold spots, good loot spawns, wastes of time spots, and know the lay of the land. Hills, mountains, valleys, rivers, water pumps, tree lines, etc. 5. Know the common sniper/ambush locations and the angles you can scout them/counter snipe them from. 6. Carry your weapon in your hands as often as possible, if you are in high/medium traffic areas.. Zelenogorsk and Cherno would be considered Medium traffic.. Elektro/Berezino would be considered high traffic. 7. Use 3rd person.. If you're on a normal server. IF not, then use your peek function and have high fidelity headphones with proper settings.. 8. Pay attention. Open doors, left-over loot, lack of zombies, active zombies that you didn't aggro, gunshots, eating/drinking sounds (when they get sounds fixed!), etc.. All of these and more are important cues you should take note of when entering and operating in an area. If you see a magazine on the airstrip 20 minutes after server restart that has been left empty in a closed door barracks.. you know there is a person on the airstrip within the last 20 minutes that has an M4 and is smart enough to close doors behind himself. 9. Close all doors behind yourself when you leave a building. Never leave empty cans/ammo behind. Leave them in your inventory until you are out of an area then drop them in a field/wooded area somewhere. 10. Never stand at the crest of a hill. Just don't. Never stand still inside of towers/on top of roofs. You're an easy shot for a sniper. 11. Communicate with people. If you come across a fellow survivor, or someone comes across you.. Try to communicate with them in a polite manner. Some are bad people, some are good people, most are just people who are looking for something entertaining in the game. Whatever the result of the encounter is, do not take it personally. Be happy you had it. You never know who you may run into. 12. If you're not geared, take big risks.. if you are geared, stick to the tree lines and be a ghost. 13. If you are sniping or shooting from 1 location, whether you kill your target or not, change positions as soon as reasonably possible. Retreat into the tree line/through town, and loop around to another position. Never stay in 1 place for too long. 14. Don't run across open fields. 15. Check your 6 every minute or less. 16. Don't jump the gun. Be patient. Don't fire the second you see someone. If you miss, and don't secure the kill, then it becomes a gun battle that you may lose, especially if you're not in a superior position. Think things through tactically.. If you're ambushing someone you want to wait until they are out of cover and in the worst position possible before you engage/communicate with them. They're less likely to shoot back/run if they are out of cover, and you are in cover and have them pinned. 17. Know when to retreat. 18. Never put yourself in a position you cannot get out of. The top of the firestation sounds like a good idea, until a sniper pins you down... then your only options are to combat log like a pussy, or attempt to climb down a ladder and hope they miss every shot... or simply outplay them and win from a disadvantage, which is unlikely. Better to avoid those positions all together. 19. Never over-estimate yourself/your group. Good players, good shots, and large groups die all the time. Don't become one of them. Nothings more embarrassing than having you and 3 of your closest friends camping the ATC at Balota looking for fresh meat, just to be completely wiped and taken out by a single sniper. And finally.. 20. Have a code. Every man must have a code. (Edit): A few other tips: 21. Stay healthy. (Bag O Rice + Water fountain = good to go.) 22. Always double-tap a target you've downed (If you wish to kill them.) IF not, remove their weapons/ammo. 23. The berries are a lie. 24. I've heard that haste can be folly, but I've never seen delay that was wise - Sun Tzu. 25. Don't carry too much food.. Eat it as you come across it and only keep enough on you to replenish your supply after long treks. 26. Try to avoid eating/drinking in highly populated areas. People can hear your food/drink sounds and track you down. 27. Always carry a morphine/splint, and have it on your hotbar.. Never know when you'll break your legs. 28. Don't press "respawn" right after you go unconscious.. A lot of times, you can come to.. Sometimes to the surprise (and demise) of your attacker. 29. Split ruined ammo to make it pristine again. 30. Pristine or Worn.. Nothing else is worth your time.

    Let's see, what do i want to see the most... 1. Performance issues and bugs fixed (i know that's all being worked on already) 2. Vehicles and Vehicle attatchments (who wouldn't want a top mounted mini gun on a firetruck? Don't forget the plow on the front!) 3. Persistent Storage (like tents and such) 4.Player constructions/bases ( that you can put all that persistent storage in :P ) 5. Zombie hordes!!!! I'm talking World War Z style. B)

    Realism Vs. Balance

    Not entirely true. All firearms have their strengths and weaknesses.A .50 round has the kinetic force to tear a person in half and is intended to destroy a vehicles engine block, while used in extreme range sniping it has limitations of not being a go to firearm in any stance but prone, not being a great choice for close range combat. A .45 has incredible stopping power at a short distance and can deliver multiple rounds on target in a split second dropping a target that may have otherwise been able to react 5.56 vs 7.62 assault rifles (eg: m4 vs ak) 5.56 being smaller and faster will hit a fleshy target and the tail end of the round will fold over the tip causing a large cavity, however requires more hits on modern body armor to defeat it. 7.62 being a larger and slower round will tumble and pass through the body causing less internal injury, requires less hits on modern body armor to defeat it. Other DMR or bolt action platforms use the larger rounds because their barrel length adds much more velocity = higher kinetic transfer. The platform is designed for precision shooting and is able to deliver rounds to head, heart, upper spinal column much more accurately

    Yea, i used to go up north all the time in the mod. Thanks for the feedback too, i'll check it out. I was thinking about using the shadowplay, will give me a few extra frames too instead of using a heavy recording program. Once they add vehicles into DayZ i think people will explore more to the North and the action will be up there.

    1. Better, Skyrim style melee(because fighting zombies is really awkward) 2. Base building and barricading (for something to do when you're geared) 3. More zombies and zombie swarms (but only if they improve melee) 4. Hunting (because I like to shoot things but don't want to KOS) 5. Vehicles. (because running for ten minutes to get anywhere is a pain in the hole)
