    Vehicular Travel.

    You are smokin' dope. Vehicles were a common occurance in the vanilla mod. I found at least three out in the woods every 5-hour play session I had on weekends. That and people always were crying for rides in sidechat. They will be a game-changer in terms of how people congregate, move across the map, and will change the objectives of play substantially. And I suspect I'll be finding them all the more frequently now that the wilderness has been significantly marginalized (thus narrowing the possible hiding locations substantially). Personally, I don't think vehicles themselves should be overly rare. However, vehicles should be spawning in near total disrepair (because a rusting husk is useless on its own, but a chassis with four wheels and a working engine is easy to get working again)... Vehicles should have specific, not generic, repair parts (i.e. Military Offroad Engine Block, Bicycle Tire, Skoda Gas Tank, etc.)... The specific repair parts should be rarer overall (but not managed by the hive, which is a silly idea for helicopters).... Vehicles should require specific, not generic, tools to accomplish a specific repair... The specific repair parts should, for one, be more varied (i.e. Military Offroad Intake, Military Offroad Exhaust Manifold, Military Offroad Battery, etc.) and secondly should require an actual procedure (call it a mini-game for all I care) to install, vice an automatic animation... Vehicles should require gasoline as a fixed/finite/dynamically allocated resource on the server (rather than an infinite resource which was all over the map)... Do all that, and how common the vehicle spawns are won't matter. I think people, not you in particular, really have a warped view of what vehicles were in the mod. The biggest contributor to their commonality wasn't the rate at which they spawned, the overall numbers, or their locations. It was the fact that the repair parts were generic, the fact that things like gasoline were in infinite supply, and the fact that they were just plain inconsequential to operate. That and the only vehicle that was truly advantageous in terms of being able to control the map, was the helicopter. And even then, that's primarily to do with how inconsequential it was to operate (i.e. innate door-mounted machine guns with server restart spawning ammunition) offensively.

  3. a semi auto isn't end game gear. End game gear is the best you can get. AKA an AR/sniper/MG At release, it should be a weapons stockpile, vehicles and bases.

    Well, we all know they want to add vehicles, and we all know that they aren't in yet. So iBattle's post was just as unspecific as it was true. Vehicles will come, not now, but Soon™ :)

    Yeah thats why i specified he said bike not bicycle because it could be very likely a simple motorbike first as it would cover pretty much all the mechanics required for more complicated vehicles( but now i am just speculating on the scraps we have heard as yeah i recall hicks saying not a bicycle) ah the joys of trying to piece together cryptic cluees sprinkled in streams tweets and posts on reddit LOL...
  7. DayZ.code, dayz.weapons, dayz. equip, dayz.vehicles Those things apparently have been deleted thus I cannot play/join any servers. Do I need to update to 1.7.2.4 for that to be fixed? EDIT: This didn't happen last night...any reason for it?

    I wouldn't mind seeing something like monument tanks being reactivated with an inert gun. If we get RPG-7s later it would make using a loud,slow, maintenance whore like a 70 year old tank a liability. It could wear out parts faster than contemporary vehicles.

    Hicks has stated in one of his past streams that bicycle's will NOT be the first "vehicles" implemented, he did not say what it would be though. The rumour mill started this "bicycle" thing and was never stated by the devs. A bicycle will not test fuel consumption, parts acquirement and the like. We will most likely see an ATV or something similar imo.

    Doesn't matter really. Vehicles will be introduced but if they are anything like the Vanilla mod they will be so rare that you will not really encounter them often. They will honestly have very little impact on the game.

    From the basic bicycle mechanic they can quickly move towards motor bikes and off road bikes, which would allow them to design and test all those mechanics you mentioned. They are just taking baby steps in the process. Personally I hope they don't over do vehicles, I don't want to see military grade vehicles and the game map already seems small enough without adding in vehicular travel.

    Heavy vehicles like tanks should never ever be implemented. By all means add cars, bikes and 4x4 jeeps but not tanks or LAVs/APCs

    They've actually hinted that bikes probably won't be first and it will likely be a small car or something instead, which I really hope is true. Hicks mentioned it in a few streams, but we'll see. We already run as fast as bikes, and bikes are extremely solo in terms of gameplay. Vehicles work best as a group goal/tool, so I'd rather see a small car. It's not that solo players should get the shaft, but the only benefit for a solo player with a bike is they get from point A to B faster, where as with a group and a car it opens up more options. Also, if they take the approach they did to guns they should really make the most complex ground vehicles first to get all the systems/mechanics in place. They've stated that's why they chose the m4 as the first weapon to fully implement, and it makes sense. You make the hardest thing first, then everything else is easier. Which I just noticed is what James Hawke said above me.

    But for testing things, like a player/driver, variable parts, physics, etc, bikes may be a good first option - In essence aren't all other vehicles simply deviations of these basic components (even helicopters)? Some will have more player "slots", more required parts, etc, but for the most part I think you will find that they will simply be a "up-scaled" set of basic features which you will find in bikes. Getting a simple vehicle like the bike right will make it easier to up-scale to other more interesting types...

    Oddly enough, I can't see why they want to release bicycles first, of all the vehicles. I mean, yes, it's a very simple vehicle, but it's also the only simple vehicle. Not a particularly smart choice for something supposed to test vehicle mechanics, in my opinion. Not representing the average vehicle very well.
  16. I keep an eye of one hacker site. Not a site that sells hacks but a site where they basically swap code and techniques and one hacker made some very interesting points. He said his hack could detect other hackers simply by getting the average speed of people within his network bubble and that there were a lot more hackers than people suspected. I thought about this and basically my conclusion is that although it would be trivial to detect speed hackers they've decided not to bother because once there are vehicles then that detection wouldn't be valid. They are consciously deciding to allow speed hacks because fixing it would only be a short term fix, Another thing I learnt from that forum is that steam doesn't ban people based on hardware signatures i.e. a person can be banned and then just use the same machine to get a new steam account and rebuy the game. Do you see the conflict of interest? Steam imo needs to stop pretending it wants to ban cheaters from steam and actually ban them permanently. zero tolerance. xbox users who get caught hacking/cheating basically can't use that xbox online ever again but steam allow hackers/cheaters to buy their way back on for twenty or so dollars. These hackers are scum. They want to destroy the game. I've seen them post how much they hate it and how much they hate bohemia. I don't know if anyone remembers the old twilight zone "It's a good life" - watch it. The kid in that is what these hackers are. Narcissistic psychopaths. The people who pay for hacks, although annoying aholes, I feel a more deserving of pity. They are pathetic specimens. Yes they are cheats but they are cheating because without cheats they wouldn't stand a chance and they are the people get banned etc, they are the people get robbed by these hackers who don't give a damn about the game, the players or their own customers. Just to add: I play dayz on full servers most days and avoiding berezino means I typically don't see hackers. Yes, they may be around but they don't impact me.

    Your english is better than my french. They are rebuilding the engine of game before they put in vehicles so many more months before cars. We will see barricading first and then first travel items will be bikes I believe. Welcome by the way.

    Survivors who don't know how to hold guns properly able to fly F16s? Tanks without cannon turrets could well be a thing sort of, a BRDM with a pintle mounted PKM for example [no turret] or even a T34-85 without armament would be fun to see, applique armour bolted on to vehicles like cars etc would be cool too.

    Im actually all for that. Would be something different besides a chopper however i think the guns should be non functional. Im also for the idea of tanks without cannon turrets. Maybe a LMG rail function and thats it. All of these would and should be rare vehicles that take multiple parts upon completion to obtain. An F16 should take you about a year at best to build because the parts are so flipping rare. And even if you were to get an F16 functional there should be a higher risk for it to explode ether at start up or mid flight lol.

    The problem with the hummer (or any other real life vehicle for that matter) is rights of usage. You cant just take someone elses model, design, and name and use it for your own commercial purposes, that's how companies get sued into bankruptcy, the guns that are already in game are a great example, the AK model line is usable because Kalashnikov signed away loyalty and duty rights as cheap forms of advertisement, same with the makers of the SKS the 1911 and the M4, however certain guns like the "Blaze 95" are loosely based off a different real life model from companies that wouldn't consent to release of rights for commercial purposes. In the same way almost all auto manufacturers are a real pain in the arse, look at Grand Theft Auto, in order to allow for damage to be dealt to a vehicle they had to loosely base the model designs and names of vehicles off of real world models because almost no auto manufacturer would consent to their vehicles being shown in any commercial way as being half destroyed or even just damaged as they viewed it as bad for the companies image. In regards to games that DO have real world models of vehicles in game that DO take damage, there is a strong likely hood that a large sum of money was paid to the manufacturer for it, or even more likely because those games came from extremely popular game producers like EA (I am mainly referring to need for speed here) so not allowing the producer to use their vehicles would mean a whole bunch of competitors being represented in a popular game series and not them. DayZ is not coming from a company with the resources to do this like Need for Speed did, so doing this would be far too much of a headache. Using Rockstars work around of satirical representations of the vehicles would be far more likely. It's disheartening to read this I know, but there are work around methods, and it will free up company resources to continue working on other aspects of the game.

    CARS SUGGESTION (REALISTIC AND POSSIBLE)

    My suggestion for vehicles doesn't so much have to do with which vehicles, but how they're found and used. To start I sincerely apologize if we're talking about the Dayz mod here, I KNOW the dayz mod and dayz SA have different driving factors behind them. The mod is more centered around zombie apoc warfare, where as SA is more centered around zombie apoc survival, to that end: I don't want to see tons and tons of vehicles all in perfect working condition ripping around the map with yahoo bandits blaring guns into the air, that sounds like call of duty with a couple of zombies littered around, I think when vehicles are implemented they should be difficult to acquire and difficult to maintain, let me explain: All spawned vehicles should be derelict, supremely derelict, as in few if any salvageable parts on them, and players would have to claim one vehicle as their vehicle (perhaps one land, one sea, and one air vehicle, idk though, leave that up to someone else to decide how to prevent someone from opening "Sal's Post Apoc Shitty Car lot!"). Once the player has found enough working parts to make the vehicle run, they then need fuel, which should be scarce, very scarce, and fuel economies of vehicles will help in tempering peoples use of them. For example, a tank takes lets just say 100 litres of diesel, and on average per spawn perhaps 1 or 2 litres of diesel are spawned per gas station or town (again I'll leave this up to a better man than I to decide how to make this part balanced) making a player have to run around to 100 gas stations and town collecting enough diesel to fill the tanks fuel tank 1 time, now lets say on 100 litres a tank can drive one 32 kilometer trip, which would be from one corner of Chernarus to the other and back again, this kind of heavy taxation on fuel consumption will help prevent some wad of a human just driving around in a tank all day squashing noobs. Now lets example this with a diesel car, a diesel car would run perhaps 4-5 trips from one corner of the map and back (64-86 max) km for 100 litres of diesel, I know these numbers may be a little unrealistic, but there will be a little more car use as a result, but not so much that it's still unfair. In the end I really just do not want to see a game centered around zombie apocalypse survival play into the hands of the COD lets just blow eachother up crowd, the game play needs to be more dynamic and less two dimensional than that, that sounds boring as shit. Forgive the profanity and thanks for reading the wall of text!
