So in the new patch, CHANGING SERVERS IS 600 SECONDS? Isn't this a bit overboard? I want to change servers cause the one I joined is very bad and laggy ----- Wait 10 minutes I got kicked because high ping ( I go to servers with high ping cause they always seem less stuttery don't know why ) ---------- wait 10 minutes Etc. So in order to prevent server hopping and ghosting, you have to make it so other people that don't do this have to suffer this too? D: I thought the 300 seconds one was pretty good?! is there another way to prevent server hopping or ghosting? :(

Heroes, the undisputed champions in ghosting.
Rick1633 replied to Rick1633's topic in General Discussion
Oh... I didnt mention that I believe they are heroes because the ghosting is happening on servers that say " no bandits, or all bandits will die". So not only are they denying that kills are part of they game, the server players are ghosting the shit out of the immersion factor. I think the servers that say no bandits and that ghost like the world is ending are violating their right to have a server. -
I don't remember any such thing, but I do recall a lot of people being upset that they made zombies give and take much more damage despite them still ghosting through walls and having ESP. BIg difference. Stop stirring.

There's people out there who left when ghosting was a problem, others when combat logging became more prevalent. IMHO, they TRIED to fix that but now its just annoying to switch servers. Without a way to camp out for the night to save your gear and no way to get from A to B faster, running slower will make playing the game tiresome and a chore even more than it is now. That and there's no way it would take them more than a few hours, IF that, to find a more appropriate speed and change it. There's more pressing issues right now.

Can admins kick you for suspected server hopping/ghosting?
gibonez replied to thequantum's topic in General Discussion
The public hive is a flawed concept. It's very existance ruins alot of the immersion of the game. Having your character magically pop in and out of different servers is inherently stupid and fucks up the game. Private hives cannot come any faster, the faster the better. We need to get rid of ghosting, server hopping and hacking. Good white listed servers will do that. -
Why is pvp and gunfights so bad in stand alone?
Katana67 replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
There are a lot of factors that weigh in on how I feel about DayZ/ARMA's shooting. Chief amongst which, is the RAMPANT use of graphics settings to gain a distinct advantage in-game. ATOC, Gamma, FOV, etc. All features which people cite as "core to the PC experience" blindly without taking into consideration the very real and tangible detriments to gameplay. I like that it's hard to spot players, but when people are on a tilted playing field just through turning off something as inane as ATOC, it ruins the experience for me. Second, is the character movement. I can't really describe it, other than to say it's clunky. I still (this is insanely controversial) say that CoD has the best movement and point-shooting mechanic out there. Pure and simple, it works, it's snappy, and it's WYSIWYG. I haven't played CoD since MW2, so don't act as if I'm some insane fanboy... prease. I'm not saying DayZ should have, or needs, a movement/shooting system like CoD. I'm merely using it as a counter-example. Somewhere in the middle I'd imagine is where it needs to be (this also doesn't take into account the ballistics simulation of DayZ/ARMA which I like). When I'm doing drills on the range, I'm not fumbling over my own feet just to engage a target, it's quick. So I'm not entirely sure ARMA is any more realistic in terms of movement and aiming than anything else. Third, is just some of the odd quirks of Alpha. Such as the inclusion of "spread" at odd distances/rates, and the damage of certain weapons (mainly the M4). Fourth, is the "out of breath sway." I'm not having a seizure when I run 100m and shoot at something in the real world. Again, might be better as-is for pragmatic gameplay reasons, but it sure is annoying to have to wait for my character to calm down just to shoot something at 50m in-game. Forgot to add a fifth, metagaming. The use of TS to relay positions post mortem to your massive clan. Ghosting. All that jazz. -
My last 3 deaths came from hackers, and NO this is not a desync issue or such. First time the hacker scum nailed me was in a little village above Svetlo. There was just 7 people on the server and I checked the player list continuously since I joined and more important, right before I met my doom. I was looting around Olsha when suddenly a player appeared like voodoo in front of the garagedoor and tried to pop shot me with a mosin. I didn't hear a sound before he was there. Anyway he missed and moved to the side. I had an M4 with 60 rounds in my hands and started running after him and spraying bullets. But when I got around the corner he was gone WTF? Suddenly I got shot at again with a Mosin but now from the hillside ca 60m away. I ran to the backside of the garage and used 3 person view over the roof, I saw him and I backpedaled a few meters and killed him. He was unconscious or dead for sure so I moved forward up the hillside, suddenly I get shoot at again, its coming from the right and by the sound of it he was at least 50m away. He had an M4 and kept spraying bullets while I zigg zagged like crazy away from him, I got hit twice before I got behind a building, it had little effect on my performance. I keept running and was damn sure he could not see me or where I went. He was spraying bullets while I put more distance between us but he still managed to get to the same spot I was hiding just seconds after I stopped to bandage. Of coerce you do get pumped up when things suddenly blows up in your face. The first guy seamed to jump at me out of nowhere and then magically disappears over open ground into the woods to shot from another direction. And I was blow away how his M4 friend managed to pinpoint my location and zap to it as soon as I stopped moving. Well It was a strange experience for sure but I didn't dwell on it too much, perhaps there where other players on the crime scene? I got re-spawned in Berezino and ran straight up to Khelm thinking perhaps I could make it to Olsha before my body went away. As I'm about to exit a building a fresh spawn with only a mosin appears right in front of me. Just like it did in the garage and again with no sound clue. He tries to shoot at me from the door and misses. I pull out a baseball bat I just found and start to chase him around while he's also trying to shoot me. We run around like crazy and I got two hits on him with the bat, when a Zombie goes after him too, I'm starting to think I got the dude. Then Bam, he ghost jumps 50m away, both me and the zombie runs after him, he turns and kill the zombie but when I get close, he jumps again. I zig zag around while he's trying to shot me. I'm talking to the hacker and call him out and he keeps ghosting around whenever I get close. He nails me eventually and zaps over and starts to attack my corps. While he was doing that wanted to check the players list but I couldn't make it stay up so I had to spam the key to see the names. Then I remembered I had shadowplay working so I pressed ALT-F9 and recorded it so I could take a look at player list in slow motion afterwards. I exit the game and run the clip, and see that the same 7 players where still on the server. That means the last guy that killed me was the same guy that jumped on me the first time, and after seeing him ghost around me in an open field. Leaves no doubt in my mind that I got nailed twice on that server by two lowlife hacking buddy's that where operating together. One is bad enugh but two, that's hard to handle. However I got a feeling these are the same two guys that wiped out my 3 man squad a week ago. You don't get Unlimited ammo, ghost jumping and wall hack abilities from desync or lag. Naturally I wasn't going to spend more time on that server so I jumped to an empty clan server and found loots of good loot. Mosin + LRS and M4 and all the good bits you can dream of + plenty military gear. I was jacked up and all pristine, even better than before the f.... got to me. I ran back to Berezino and climbed up in one of the cranes on the docks and logged out. Tonight I log into a full GB MultiplaySerserver.com thinking its a new day, yesterdays hacking nightmare was just a bad dream. I spawned inside the crane house and ducked down in the middle and used 3P to check my suroundings. I hadn't been online more than a couple of minutes before I suddenly see a Mosin barrel sticking over the ladder. Its very tricky to climb the last two ladders, its kind of overlapping. I call the guy out and say he will be caught with his pants down if he tries to climb the last ladder. Then I try to talk to the guy and invite him to team up with me. He says a few words but I can't make out what he's saying. I peeked out and saw he was gone down from the crane. I figured it was best to hold position in the center and use 3P to check around, I felt pretty safe. Nobody could see or shoot me from any angle. Well that's what I thought. I have dedicated soundcard with expensive headphones and the sound is excellent and the crane house is all metal, you can't sneak up there. I kept checking my surrounding with freelook and 3P it was quiet for ca two minutes then suddenly I'm starting to take damage, 4-5 times rapidly out of thin air. Not a single gun shoot or footsteps and there was nobody in the crane house either. whatever hit me, ruined all my pristine army gear from top to toe. The only angle I could be shot from was if somebody used bullet drop, firing from the shipwreck 1423m away. Another way would be to spray the crane house and kill me with bullet ricochets. I heard gunshots all over Berezino but nothing when I got hit. I was unconscious for ca 10min before I died. After I re-spawned I ran back straight back and I climb up to see he only took the Mosin ammo. I know the game is still Alpha so I'll try to endure the pain for now but I seriously hope they manage to trap the f.... and ban them from Steam and whatnot. Sorry for the long read. You got me beans if you read it all ;-)

well thats exactly the thing: it doesn't stop people from doing that if you see someone on elektro hill for example, and you would be a ghoster, you can take your sweet time, spawn 50 meters behind him so he doesnt hear your spawning sound, and roll soundlessly to the spot camping people camp for more than 5 minutes in dayZ, and a server change restriction is only making it taking more time okay, in shootouts, ghosting is not as good applicable as it was before, where basically your join time was the timer, but i think a real solution needs to be made: private hives for example the shared hive is a neat idea for casual DayZ players, but a private hive for a single server is pretty much THE thing to cancel out most of the meta-game

Can we get an option to spawn away from a town if we lose connection / the server restarts while we are in one?
Irish. replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in Suggestions
Ive always thought we should have a random spawn on each log in.. regardless of where you log out, you're logging in somewhere else. No server ghosting, loot-server hopping, etc.. Fixes a ton of things and makes the game a little more exciting to me. You always have to figure out where you are when you spawn in = good idea to me. -
There are many things that should be (and eventually WILL be) implemented that can be considered important, but, in my opinion, there are a few things that should take precedence (in no particular order): 1.) zombie mechanics, such as speed, interaction with the environment (i.e. ghosting through walls), damage, numbers, interaction with players and other zombies, etc.; 2.) loot spawn locations & levels (where items spawn and how often); 3.) item interaction (many items that you can find & loot are essentially useless at the moment because they do nothing except take up inventory space); 4.) hunting & cooking interaction (more animals besides invincible rabbits that you can kill and prepare to eat); there are of course many other things that would be good to implement, but I think these few things would make a huge difference in how people currently play the game, and would allow for more diverse gameplay while we wait for more to be implemented, and encourage less people-hunting and more cooperation early on. Of course, the devs ARE already considering all of these things and working on most (if not all) of them, and, as monolith1985 said: However, as I said, in my opinion these few changes/additions would greatly change how people experience the game currently and allow people to enjoy the game more as they wait for more progress to be made. Of course, not being a dev, I can't really speak to how making these changes currently would affect development on their end, e.g. making it more difficult for them, but I think a lot of people would enjoy them, and it might encourage more people to check the game out.

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
Goove replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
For one dude, look on youtube..go to some forums and look at the footage provided..I know what ghosting is and combat logging and all that and im not talking about that. I am talking a clear 180 turn around from 150-200 meters head shot...you dont turn on people..another time i was headshot and my buddy got the video the bullet never even comes near me when it hit the ground..Yet i have never had problems with the SA hitbox...Just because you say you havent seen any hackers means nothing. Im not going to go crying wolf.. i love this game even with its crappyness, i dont complain...im simply typing a post in a hacker thread..i know what is and what isnt...You never just turn on someone across a field and headshot them..it doesnt happen in this game exspec after they were in a dead sprint with no weapon out. -
What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
chrismgtis (DayZ) replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
I've yet to have the following happen to me (which happened in DayZ Mod too often): - (no helicopters in standalone) players acquiring a helicopter not available in DayZ and flying it around. - Nuking a server, killing all players on the server when someone kills them and causes them to lose their hacked helicopter. - Going invisible and killing me at point blank when I can't see them. - Server hopping (not technically hacking). - Combat logging (not technically hacking). Standalone: - Server hoppers moving to my position and then "ghosting" to kill me (not hacking). - I've been made aware of an exploit/cheat that let's a person stand in a certain position where they are unable to be seen. - I've been told about a hack that allows players to remove walls so that they can see players in buildings. -
Video proof of ghosting. Impressive.
-
Ghosting is one of big reasons I so liked private hives in mod. That and whitelist.
-
Ghosting, relogging to different server, changing position to give you an unfair advantage and then log back and kill the poor dudes not expecting such a dick move. But whom are we kidding, you know what that is.
-
What do you mean by ghost in on them ? You mean how you can see your dead body once you're dead ? I don't think that is ghosting...

The Public Hive- Am I the only person who likes it?
AzrailCross replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
For what it's worth I don't hate you for the opinion, I gave mine and you gave yours. It -is- just a game and I couldn't care less in the end ... BUT ... while you think it's a stupid idea, I think it's one of the few ways to keep the game honorable and thriving. If the game reverts toward the Mod where everything is chaotic and not monitored - where people AREN'T being told what they are allowed to do to a decent extent, I know I won't be supporting it; and while that's my viewpoint I know I'm not alone. Just as I'm sure your not alone in your way of thinking about it. No real changing each other's minds on it, but having seen enough games crumble - I still will be hoping they go my route, or something similar enough to keep things reigned in - otherwise I don't believe DayZ will survive all that long - for myself - and for the long run. I'd much rather be spawning on the beach (or one of the controlled zones I've set up on the server when the feature is out) when I jump servers, and stop the ghosting and server hopping in the process than have it continue, regardless of what people 'want' - it ruins the integrity of doing it the right way, no less than a hacker just popping gear in (in my eyes) or being able to teleport behind you. It's harming the balance of the game in the process. In any case, nobody should hate anyone for an opinion; regardless of their viewpoint. If someone wanted the game to be turned into a pony simulator that's on them, but no reason to get fussy, not like it'd happen. -
I want to be scared - A discussion on horror and Dayz
hrdrok replied to hrdrok's topic in General Discussion
Completely agree they should be fixed. The ghosting, terrible spawn mechanic, and their melee combat is in big need of help. I didn't add that to the OP because I am making an assumption they eventually will fix these problems as they are known. I am hoping some notice is taken at what we want done after that. -
The Public Hive- Am I the only person who likes it?
AzrailCross replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
My personal opinion, I hope they don't allow private hives in the least to be honest. When the update comes along that introduces base building and the other feature Dean mentioned -- controlled zones I believe; server hopping will cease to function, even ghosting, if done properly. Basically creating it so that if your logging off server A that's fine, log back into server A next and your right where you left off no differences made. Log off Server A and log into Server B - you have to pick from one of the controlled zones you or your buddies have given you access to; or be slotted with one of the many fresh spawn points (since by this time, they'll be safer; not just beach target practice.) but you'll retain all your stuff. In turn creating it so you can't jump to another server and just loot away, nor can you combat log and try to ghost behind a enemy position and log back in to use that advantage. Simple enough fix, all the perks of a public server, and none of the BS that comes with private hives which I just have a natural disdain for - partially from the reasons others have mentioned, not really desiring to 'pick a server' and then stick to it even when it's dead since my gaming hours vary wildly, sometimes 1-2pm .. sometimes 3-4am.. sometimes 8-9am .. who the hell knows, not good fun for me if it all slides private hive, I'll end up needing characters on a dozen servers and STILL have to hope they never get perma shut down. No thank you, the potential for the game-ruining mods and even more abusive admins.. all in all pass. In exchange for the generalized private server idea, I'd much rather see Modders be given access to the database and materials to create and yes - test mods privately on unlisted servers - but they have to be approved by internal admins at Bohemia before being launched into the main listing as part of 'secondary campaign' that can host any number of servers on it's own separate 'public hive' that still has to follow guidelines to keep the experience for players a good one; if it was going to be allowed at all. Never have to worry about picking a server that'll die out in a few weeks after you've gotten invested into your character and gear just to have it disappear through no fault of your own, don't have to deal with Admins that get more reign than they ever should be given under the claim it's a private hive with it's own weird rules since it's all still tightly controlled.. no chance of insane mods, no worrying about a handful of servers that decided they weren't going to update with the rest of the game for a few months and thus keeping your characters on lockdown if you update, or your updated characters on lockdown because you didn't, no chance of a single lone server owner who decides to change up the rules and style of his server without warning after you've been there ages into something you never would have been a part of. it's all around more controlled and a much more likely chance of staying a stable and streamlined system without private hives. Just my opinion, going to find a pillow and snooze now :P -
The Public Hive- Am I the only person who likes it?
DedicateDdos replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
+1 for the public hive, it really works well with the way DayZ is set up, it still needs some fine tuning though but I'm sure the devs will works this out eventually, and I'm looking forward to how they're going to fix the ghosting when persistent objects get implemented. eventually private hives will be introduced and everyone's personal need will eventually get catered to as well. All in all it's a "watch and see"-scenario where a lot depends on how well the devs can work out their idea's. -
The Public Hive- Am I the only person who likes it?
Ubernaut replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
OP, I agree with a lot of the points you made. Private hives do have their advantages. I think the single biggest disadvantage of Public hives would have to be what I think is called "ghosting", where players are able to travel to any point, switch servers, and automatically be at the same point they left on the other server. When tents, vehicles and barricading are implemented, this is going to be a huge drawback unless the devs disallow ghosting, and make you spawn on the coast if you switch servers. So I guess even some of the disadvantages of the Public Hive system are subject to change. Hard to say at this point. -
300 sec wait time after getting kicked from servers
gibonez replied to RandyDayz's topic in General Discussion
Pretty much. Ops slight wait and suffering is worth it for the sheer amount of server hopping and potential ghosting it prevents. -
What's considered the lowest of the low for you?
tatchell (DayZ) replied to crazyandlazy's topic in General Discussion
How did you forget ghosting on that list? I would insert ghosting into 8. with hacking being the only thing worse. -
Can we be completely honest here ? The central hive idea while at first seemed like a good idea is completely flawed and is detrimental to the game. The central hive is the reason why. -Ghosting -Combat Logging exist. A central hive needs to be removed if alot of the more ambitious projects are to take off. Base building for one would absolutely not work with the crappy central hive. Nothing to prevent people from spawning in close proximity to your base. -Spawn in take a few pop shots at the base occupants , Disconnect - Move to a different position, reconnect in base server, shoot a few pop shots once again, disconnect. - Repeat. The central Hive does more harm than good guys. Private servers are the way to go. One character one server.

How to discover/punish ghosting? (For server admins)
Greenpants replied to sinnaman's topic in General Discussion
That IS ghosting. The fact that your intention isn't to kill someone doesn't make it not ghosting. You are leaving a server with the intention of using another server exclusively for transport (whether because it will hide your movement or make travel easier) and then coming back to the first. People may not get up in arms about that as much but I still see it as the same thing. You are intentionally using another server to "teleport" you on the server of your choice.
