Yeah I know I live in a French village my old mate has a fully equipped machine shop across the road full or REAL post war machines. Can do anything there. And I was a london transport fitter for a while, so I'm no stranger to vernier-precision metalworking (not CnC). But what you're saying is like saying " IRL its difficult to repair a helicopter and you cant walk around with a main rotor assembly in your backpack" - we all know that If helis ever join DayZ, are you going to want a realistic method of mounting the rotor assembly on the mast and connecting up the control mechanics, and testing and certifying them? Really ? ..WOW ... remember this is a 'game' And with road vehicles in game, some of them are going to need rebores, broken push rod changes, burnt-out driveshaft bearings replaced, gearbox changes (and rebuilds, why not) with the right gaskets, and seals, and tubing, and wiring, and change the grease nipples while you're there.; and the clutch is fucked, and some truck parts might not be easy to find, are the brushes ok in that old alternator, or maybe let's convert it to take a dynamo.. check the condition of the battery, and an oil change at least,..hubs badly dented, rotate the retread tyres, this tyre leaks? damn steering rod broke, have to replace it or weld it or make a substitute, what size pins you need in there? where are the circlips pliers? and how about some Churchill Tools, as well as the standard heavy duty full range mechanics tool-wall, and the jacks..and an inspection pit.... hole in the exhaust will make a damn lot of noise, hear that 8 km away, you want to risk that..?? timing's right out, won't start except on a long hill if ya lucky, leaves a trail of smoke a mile long.. 2 full days work there if we had a team and all the pieces brand new, and floodlights (no electricity? no arc welding then) .... hmmmm (cough) - this is just road vehicles we're talking about here, right?.. nothing fancy ... remember this is a 'game' - a lot of the actions already incorporated are moderately - or extremely - simplified [ For instance, you perhaps know something of how much real skill and experience it takes, and the time and the special tools required, to craft a bow that will endure and shoot true, capable of bringing down a full grown deer ? even an emergency unseasoned wood survival bow to last a day, still requires selected wood, tools, fire, glue, shaping, hardening, stringing, and the same for the arrows. None of that is in the game. ] xx

Since it is already discussed to have surplus WW2 weapons... I would love an anti tank rifle. (like my photo). When we tie zombie together in the final release, shooting them will be interesting. They should be rare since an anti tank rifle round should go through any barricade except if we can stack multiple layers of heave plate steel. I really think an anti tank rifle fits the game better than an RPG for anti viehcles because Dayz is supposed to be anti COD or Battlefield. So instead of rockets for making vehicles a little nerfed.... Anti tank rifles when shot into the engine block is a much better fit for Dayz. any comments?

I like the direction the game is going in. But to be honest, I stopped playing regularly (although I do log in every now and then just to check on things). I also stopped following the updates as regularly for the simple reason that when it does go live (or beta, or at least further along in alpha), I want there to still be some mystery and exploration. Tough to do that if you are following every thread about every new weapon, town or pair of pants as they are added to the game. I haven't found the SA as immersive as the Mod. I don't feel a sense of urgency around anything like hunger or thirst or even getting injured, let alone temperature or "feeling wet". There's the obvious lack of content like vehicles and zombies. Every server seems like it's 24/7 daylight so I don't get a sense of the environment changing. Plus I don't like that all the spawn zones are on the East coast. To me, Cherno and Electro as the twin cities of death, Kamenka and Kamarova being the crap spawns and Berezino requiring a long road trip up the coast were an integral part of the Mod. But I'm still hopeful that it might be worth going back to in a few months. -

@OP The problem here is though that there is a mod for dayz for free, which does still most things better at the moment than the SA, and the SA is based on that mod. People wondered why they just haven't fixed the mod instead of trying to make a whole new game. Also it seems weird to many people that "they basicly had a working game (meaning the mod and arma) to begin with". After sobering 8 months, if I played the game only at release in december 13 and now for a month each, I would certainly experience diffrences, like less gamecrashes. Also more weapons and changes to the map, but nothing big. And of course we can argue what a "big improvement" to the game is all day. But none of the important stuff is here imo. Like 64 bit servers, raising of playercap on servers, proper loot respawn, no trace of vehicles (I know they just started making ideas for them)...the list goes on. Anyway, for now I am back to the mod. I never participated in an alpha before and I never will again, but I mainly bought this because I thought "It's kinda like the mod, just with a diffrent inventory system and proper melee", which it did not turn out to be. Nice sideeffect of course is reporting bugs and the money helps them too. I have over thousand hours on dayZ SA, what kept me there was hope. A hope that dayzmod, with it's own problems that I was fed up with, can not provide. Also Reefa is obviously the troll. -
I honestly fail to understand the reasoning behind people stating that guns and vehicles would be super rare considering that this game is not based on a post nuclear apocolypse, why? No one has yet come up with a tangible arguement as to why this would be the case. Manufacture may have stopped certainly, but, considering the number of firearms and even more so vehicles in circulation around the world this kind of statement is totally and utterly absurd. What you are attempting to say is that suddenly a vast majority of firearms, munitions and vehicles are suddenly wiped off the face of the earth without a trace correct? I personally own a couple of dozen firearms, munitions for them, reloading equipment and a couple of vehicles both 2 wheel and 4 wheel and, unless hit by a nuclear explosion, I don't to see how weapons and vehicles would be super rare, ammo yes eventually and fuel too along with spare parts but that would be years down the line.

There's no actual indication of what's happened outside of Chernarus. For all we know the rest of the world could be fine, in fact, Chernarus could be the DayZverse equivalent of the Zone. I wouldn't really say civilization regressed hundreds of years when there's plenty of modern life still afforded to the survivors. I mean, if we were really driven back to pre-industrial society, guns would be super rare, vehicles wouldn't exist, and most of what was left of the modern world would be gone. I fail to see why having guns like an AN-94, FN SCAR, M107, or Cheytac M-200 (though I don't really care for the M107 or M200) somehow ruins the desolate feel. I mean, modern weaponry would still exist, it'd just be rather rare. If they gave the FN SCAR a worn look, would it be okay? I don't see what's wrong with it The separation of survivors is almost better. There are those who improvise most of their gear, and then there are those who lucked out and have found high-end pre-apocalyptic gear. It'd be more interesting to come across a patrol of people actually wearing a full military outfit and carrying end-game weapons, because you'd know they actually spent a lot of time looking and surviving, rather than just; "Oh, that guy has a hoodie, gas mask and an AKM, the rarest rifle in the game." There needs to be separation, which is why high-level stuff is necessary. Being well equipped should actually be being well equipped, not having one full magazine for an AR and a couple cans of beans. Oh, and wouldn't you think that the AN-94 would be a great high-level 5.45x39mm AR because of the now-confirmed ammunition? It's a pretty unique design, has the two-round burst function, and of course has the moving barrel, so I don't see why having a worn but modern variant as one of the better 5.45 guns would be problematic. That, and the AK-12, would be the two highest-end ARs in 5.45x39mm.

All backpacks should stay persistent regardless of whether they rest inside a tent or not. Or all items for that matter really. I'm pretty sure everything will degrade over time except things such as tents, vehicles, barricades, etc.

Endgame is a word commonly used to denote the sorts of things a player does after acquiring high end gear. This is fixing vehicles and building bases. It's beyond mere survival -it's an attempt at reconstructing a society of sorts, and the inevitable skirmishes that result. You're merely trying to survive, we're making power plays. Furthermore, I stopped playing the mod when it required more than one 7.62 Nato round to the chest to take somebody out. At that point it was just battlefield with zombies and loot. And no, evolutionary arms race is not considered outdated by any means.

thats what i meant small vehicles like cars or troop transport stuff sure they could blow up. but not a tank or armored vehicles.

This should only be "endgame" for that lucky 1 out of 1000+ players and only if he/she decides to do this instead of doing something less boring. The game itself should be ~50% "early game" (trying to survive with that few scraps you got), ~40% "midgame" (improving your survival chances by getting better gear) and only 10% "endgame" (the phase after you got "fully geared" where base building,vehicles, ultra rare gear, cooperative goals etc. become the main focus). Meaning half of the players shouldn't even care about looting for better gear in the first place (having to find supplies and fighting the environment) and 80% of the rest would feel lucky to find high tier civilian or basic grade military loot, let alone sufficient ammunition.

I played the mod extensively. You need .50 cal rifles because other players have .50 cal rifles, and vehicles. You must not have played many endgame scenarios. It was helicopter and apc warfare. Also, I raise you this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Queen_hypothesis Yes, survival, in the broader biological sense, is in fact an arms race.

Looks good to me, especially pleased that there are going to be interchangeable vehicle parts, this lends to the notion that vehicles wont be just "Oh I found a truck, a pristine, working truck in the middle of the apocalyptic wasteland, guess I'll hop in and go on a rampage!" Cause that would be silly and unrealistic.

Anti Tank Rifles and RPGs Penetrating Heavy Armor Here are some average survivors - they are fishing, or maybe shooting at some food, like hunting a deer maybe, or blowing down the door of a foodstore ? They have the kind of equipment you need to stay alive and survive in a post apocalypse world ..they have warm clothes, shelter, food, hunting and fishing gear, they work as a team to help each other. BUT They better be careful on this food-gathering expedition, because there are other survivors also looking for fish, game, medical supplies and cans of beans, who might even try to rob them and steal their stuff.. If you READ any SURVIVAL MANUAL it ALWAYS tells you ... right there on page 1 in the list of basic stuff you need to survive: Warm clothes, foraging skills, good knife, fishooks, Anti Tank Rifle, cord, matches, axe or machete.. some kind of hunting and defense firearm, strong backpack, footwear, etc But the MOST IMPORTANT THING if you want to SURVIVE, is an ANTI TANK RIFLE, or at least a one-shot fire and throw away ANTI TANK MISSILE for penetrating HEAVY ARMOR So don't ever forget Right off the beach - DON'T look for Food Don't look for Clothes Don't look for an axe Don't waste your time seeking medical supplies Run like shit till you drop and starve or until you find an Anti Tank Rifle .. because that's what you NEED to survive. OK ? Have you ever heard of aircrash victims, or castaways, or lost campers, or any person left on their own resources Who has survived longer than One Day without an Anti Material Rifle or Shoulder Launched Anti-Tank Missile ??? OF COURSE YOU HAVEN'T !! Even the hardcore Preppies know an Effing Anti Material Rifle is thing FIRST thing you need, screw the food, the maps, the tents, the medical stuff Just ASK them. And DayZ is a realistic SURVIVAL Game, isn't it. You need full military kit, high powered weapons, and maybe artilery, airstrikes, bunkers, helicopters, armoured vehicles and surface to surface shit How you going to ever sit round a campfire at night roasting your FISH if you aint got those NECESSARY THINGS ? WTF

I think the RPK will be mountable on vehicles ( I think Dean said so - not sure ). So RPK will have it's purpose for fire supriority in a fight / fighting back attacks. While it is too heavy to carry it around over huge distances it makes you to a "fire support squad mate". So it will have it's purpose if you are playing in a squad. -

You would need a lot of sprays for that :D But I think you should be able to spray just some patterns on them similar ones to flags or full camo (black n green) something like battlefield 4 emblems. Because if you give players a free hand in painting their own vehicles, you gonna see a huge amount of dicks painted all over the cars across the chernarus -

I believe they did the M4 early on as a way to nut out the tricky stuff with guns. Probably just following the same idea with vehicles.

sounds great! I have 1 concern though. why is the first vehicle going to be a military vehicle? I was under the impression that it would be a bike, atv, or small civilian car. something that will be common. military vehicles are going to be rare. so why is the first vehicle in the game going be one of the uber-rare ones? doesn't make much sense to me.

That's the tt-33, the cz-52, the c96, the ppsh, the ppd-40, and the pps-43. I think that's a fair amount of guns that could use the (fictional) caliber. The reason I like the 7.62 round idea is because it has a higher fps than the 9mm and .45 rounds and thus should penetrate armor, clothing, vehicles, and buildings better. Also, it's a smidgeon flatter shooting. It's just a unique fun round, and I feel this would be lost if they just went with generic calibers. The 7.63 mauser also comes out screaming at 1400-1500 fps. And the tokarev is anywhere from 1200 from the super super low end, up to 1600+ fps.
