I'll get the few, puny negatives out of the way first so I can end on how damn good this patch is: - Nutrition: we *LOVE* the new nutrition mechanics, but we feel that the rate at which your hunger meter goes up is just a tad high. So far we've found that we spend the entire night gathering food and eating it, and haven't yet really had a chance to get into much PvP or repair vehicles - Exhaustion: I saw a post in the bug tracker pointing out how your player is constantly exhausted now, leading to massive amounts of gun sway. Even getting up from prone makes my character exhausted and I can't aim with a sniper rifle. Is this a bug or an intentional change? If it's intentional, I get the intent but it is too far. I hunt in real life, and I can walk or even run a dozen meters and still aim a rifle accurately. - Humanity: I *really* like how difficult the new medical system is (love the blood tester especially!). It really puts a much larger emphasis on hunting, which I think is great. However, it seems that now it will be nearly impossible to gain humanity at any significant level. Before this patch, if I killed a high humanity survivor in defense and became a bandit, it was possible to lose that skin by putting some effort into helping other players out with blood transfusions. However, now it's really difficult to get the proper medical supplies to give someone a transfusion. This will make gaining a significant amount of humanity a near impossibility, while you still lose a lot of humanity for killing survivors. Could this be changed by significantly increasing the amount of humanity given for administering medical care? Or possibly adding other ways to gain humanity? Okay on to the good: This patch is the best thing to happen to DayZ since I started playing. I absolutely love it! It really feels like the game I wanted DayZ to be when I first heard about it. We are now actually investing time into gathering resources and maintaining our equipment and health while playing. We are deathly afraid of zombies. We literally jump for joy when we find a cow, sheep, or goat roaming the fields. All of this really adds to the game, and the fantastic PvP element of DayZ is still present so now it all feels complete. The devs don't get nearly enough credit for the work put into this. It's too bad this patch was on hold for so long, as it's the most profound change to DayZ mod that I can remember.

You already can destroy almost any building, the thing is that there are no explosives or vehicles to do this:
-
This isn't Soviet Russia. Humvees,LMTVs,MRAPs,GAZ jeeps,Ural trucks and several other military vehicles are diesel powered. Also aircraft use JP-8 or JET-A.

If H1Z1 will have squads and clans at early access why ...
Briljin replied to Demonio (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
For normal people yes but if you every spent any time in the military or a police unit you would know that uniforms and patches are designed to make it easier to determine a friendly from an unfriendly, without being able to see their faces or even know who they are. I agree that name tags are a bad idea (along with vehicles!) but Dayz needs a far more robust customization for players and clothing. One should not have to use inferior or completely inappropriate gear so they can make themselves stand out. -

Two cents worth on whether the game is hard or not. It can be. Most players choose for it not to be. Watch the servers empty when darkness hits even though you can adjust gamma. Reg servers always full as compared to hardcore servers struggling to fill. Hardcore night server ? the loneliest servers. Always daytime 3pp servers.. the full servers. [cry] oh but i can't see enough in a hardcore as opposed to real life and the night is too dark [/cry] Just like in the mod..people whine about wanting it to be hard because it is too easy..night time servers empty..1pp view servers empty. Every time a change is made were it requires more hits to kill a zed..WAHHH the zeds are too hard! Loot lessened WAHHHHH i can't find anything! Add 20 extra barracks and a 100 vehicles 3pp server..full all the time. Most of the players do not want a hard game anyway so what are y'all fighting about ? -

If you want both realism and balance, its as simple as stating that this is Chernarus about two years after the outbreak. Low amount of bullets, food, and crappy gun conditions would make sense due to two years of scavenging, killing, and societal degradation. As for gasoline, it itself doesn't really "go bad" or rather the additives in it do. The additional compounds separate and become grimy. It doesn't make the vehicle unusable, just sluggish and gunky. My cousin left her car sitting around for over a year and a half. It was annoying trying to start the car but it still worked, and could get you from point A to B just fine. Then again Toyota's are pretty tough compared to most vehicles.

Balance and gameplay must supersede "realism" in this instance. I don't want to find tons and tons of food because I don't want hunting to be rendered irrelevant. Not because I think it's more realistic. If it's going to be a new system that they're dumping a significant slice of resources into, I want it to have a lasting effect on how we play the game. I don't see that happening so long as one can fill up on canned goods and fresh fruit, easily, from a residential house. Hunting is a more involved process than merely walking into a building and downing a can of beans, hence why I want it to be more relied-upon than looted food goods. Likewise, the same applies to the "gasoline goes bad" argument. Well, sure, but you can't really have vehicles if that were the case. So, we forgo "realism" to provide for a worthwhile system in-game. This is what I've been saying all along. I love "realism" and it's a great thing to factor into thinking about DayZ. But it's not a reason why something should be X. Nor is it useful when adhered to without compromise. Realism is only useful inasmuch as it supports the goals of DayZ as articulated by the developers. Similarly, it's only as useful so long as it is considered alongside pragmatic "gameplay" concerns. [EDIT - Recognize that I'm not referring to you personally, and I too place a great emphasis on the necessity for the establishment of a "timeframe" in DayZ]

I would like to make a couple of points about loot, namely, how much should actually be found in-game. The truth of the matter is, it really depends on how long it has been since structured society shat the bed. I have seen many posts in "survival" threads about how people want loot spawns drastically reduced, about how finding only a little bit is "realistic", and how the player should be forced to rely on themselves. Again, I say the availability of loot is really dependent on the time-frame of the setting. See, I don't think many people realize just how much STUFF we produce as a species, and release into the environment. You can travel to the most desolate coastline in the world (Antarctica), and find enough accumulated detritus to build a mock Stonehenge out of toilet bowls (seriously, look it up) Point being, in the first few days/weeks after a TSC event, there would be a lot of "stuff" left over. Canned food, clothing, ammuntion, etc. With a major (if not most) of the population dead from zombe-ism (which is SIGNIFICANTLY different from a "realistic" TSC-event, where most of the dieoff would take place over months and years), there would effectively be a lot of stuff "left behind", as it were. Every player would be able to find multiple articles of factory-made clothing, (maybe) fresh fruit on shelves, including tropical species, ammunition by the caseload, etc. On the other hand, if you want "found" gear to be scarce, then the game would have to be set years after the TSC-event. Canned goods, even if rotated properly, only really can last 5 years. Modern (smokeless powder) ammunition degrades over time, so does gasoline. So, in this instance, gear would be extremely rare, and people would have to make their own spears/bows/primitive firearms, but that would (YMMV on this one, as I have a multitude of ideas about what could be done with this period of time) also severely limit group play. There would effectively be no vehicles, as they havent been produced for years, and have no fuel to run off of/no lubricants/no oil. There would be no M4A1 assault carbines, nor "modern" bullets to shoot. Clothing would be made of hides and crude cloth, and gear-carrying-equipment would be limited to small packs, bags, and belt pouches. There would be no morphine to fix broken legs, nor antibiotics to treat infections, just a cosh to the head to put you out of your misery. Essentially, Day z set in the 1700s. (Which, to be honest, I've developed a tabletop RPG set during a zombie apocalypse in the Jamestown Colony. Kicks ass, my players LOVE it. Up to you guys. You can't have both and cry realism.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?
gibonez replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Well I think I might have found the perfect weapon for the Anti Vehicle role and one that is not tacticool or overpowered. I never mentioned it before because I always assumed they were no longer found or used but the Recent Ukrainian conflict has shown that this firearm is still very much relevant especially in Eastern European conflicts. The PTRS 41 This is a semi automatic box magazine fed firearm that packs a wallop it could disable vehicles with as many as a single well placed shot thanks to its massive rounds that are substancially more powerful than a .50 cal round. Reason it would be relevant is because of its modern day used by rag tag groups of fighters in both Syria and the Ukraine. The other reason why it would be so fitting is because of its lack of optics rendering it a skill weapon for ambushes. Once stamina is added this weapon could be a real pain to slug around the map but would be devastating for ambushes on vehicles and be nasty for penetrating structures that are barricaded. -

Chaingunfighter replied to Demonio (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
What's wrong with RPGs? Area-of-effect weapons aren't necessarily a bad thing (especially IEDs, Molotovs, and hand grenades). I can't imagine something like an RPG-7 or M72 LAW would be that out of place, especially considering how hard to find a rocket would be. The M72 is one-shot only, so if you fuck up your aim, you've just wasted a super asset. The RPG-7 can be reused, but is much more prone to misfiring and deviation. I don't want tanks, though, but I think having some explosive small-arms as support weapons would be a cool thing to have. The mod also did have the M136. It was taken out because it was useless (replaced the backpack slot, had almost no area-of-effect damage, couldn't always take out vehicles) and also could be re-used an unlimited amount of times, which was not realistic at all. -
I don't hope that you will ever just destroy a vehicle, back in the mod this was something impossible to even imagine. A vehicle is so precious that you would rather track it / snipe the driver or what ever. But don't blow it up. They won't be gamebreaker, sure, there will be people hunting you with a truck full of weapons. But why not? It is just another style of playing, and if zombies are actually a threat and they can damage vehicles, you wont just run over some people because the sound of your cars alarms too much zombies to loot they corpse easily. And as you mentioned some post before I think, you don't have to worry about vehicles driving along the coast all the time if you're not playing on 40/50 man servers, because it's too risky. (That's why i prefer ~25 servers, encounters are rare and people play serious).

That's a terrible way of reasoning. Falling into the wrong hands. What if a nice gun 'falls into the wrong hands'? Would the solution be to replace all firearms with sponges? To me, the idea of coming across an armoured car full of bandits is fucking awesome. If they kill me, good on them because they spent hours putting that vehicle together. Having everyone on the same playing field isn't what DayZ is about. DayZ is about finding an advantage and exploiting it... though that doesn't extend to 3pp and wall hacking - that's a different kind of exploit. I've got no problem with separate servers for people who don't want vehicles and bandits, however. Sounds boring as hell, but if its what those players enjoy then good on them. And why on Earth would you be worried about the DayZ team rushing anything? The same team which is regularly criticised for apparently spending too long on releasing updates and basic gameplay features like zombies?

Experimental brings us hunting, do you want to know what this means?
randomspawn replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I just wonder what the 'roar' will be like if they don't actually 'crank it up a notch'? Remember, they are adding vehicles, new guns and all that other jazz. Since you can't carry a bow and a rifle, you will have lots of tough choices. I do think hiding in the woods and eating rabbits will allow you to survive, but truly that will be boring for most players. I don't care what game it is, once you beat the AI/PVE element once, it gets boring. Even if they make the zombies super-hard, they won't be fun very long. I just don't think it's possible in this type of game. The fun from this game is all about the interaction with others. Right now, they shoot before asking. If they get rid of bullets, they will shoot arrows before asking. If they get rid of bullets and arrows, we will throw axes at each other. It's an open world sandbox, and PVP will always dominate the gameplay. -
Ironically enough, Call of Duty's vehicles have a relatively minor role in its gameplay, so your argument is fallacious. There are plenty of FPS games that do make high use of vehicles, but I can't see how having even regular Ladas and GAZs is going to destroy the gameplay. However, it's entirely possible that someone manages to find a working truck and machinegun, as well as the ample parts to armor it up, and utilize it. It's going to take some work, yes, and generally it will be groups of people who have them (for all sorts of reasons). However, I doubt people's first reaction when they get their high-end pickup with a PKM working would be to take a stroll on the coast where the car is at heavy risk. Using vehicles doesn't detract from pure survival, it's a real element that does happen in real disaster scenarios. Just as quickly as you can yell "there are other games where you can fight eachother (such as CoD)", I can yell "there are other games where your highest-grade tools are axes (such as The Forest)".

scutzi128 replied to leefriendfield's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've been playing on a server called search and destroy. Almost always has more then 20 players. Its got some pretty cool features like a deployable bike. Admins are also very active and they have events like deathmatches and stuff and you get prizes for winning. I have yet to see the server be hacked which is nice seeing as how the other servers I have played on get nuked on a daily basis it seems. Also this is not a pay to win server like some. One such server to avoid is BIAgaming I highly recommend you stay away from that shit server its pay to win at the most extreme level with donator bases and vehicles everywhere. -
Click here They are basically special wood "stoves" where you burn some kind of combustible to heat wood or charcoal (without burning it) in order to release combustible gas which can then be fed to a regular combustion engine. Nobody really use them to be honest, the only time wood gassifiers have been popular was during war related fuel shortages. But that could be a possibility to run a car with a not too picky engine. Sincerely i really doubt there will be any military vehicles. Forget about mounted machineguns, i sincerely doubt that it will happen.

1) So what if that happens? It's a survival game with hero's, bandits, KoS'ers and everything in between. I don't see why anything will be spoiled if a group of bandits or KoS'ers manage to get a vehicle in working condition. Quite the contrary, it gives the loners and the small groups who are also present on the server a common goal: blowing the bandits up. 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend' and all that. Furthermore, we will also get weapons to destroy vehicles, which will be easier to craft than repairing a vehicle. 2) People who work together will always have an advantage over people who don't. This will not only be the case with getting a vehicle, but also with base building. If you don't want to team up, fine by me, but it will be harder to survive. That doesn't mean people who work together should be penalized, just so the people who work in small groups or by themselves have a better chance at surviving. Neither does it mean that loners/small groups are defenseless (see my previous post and nr. 1 in this post). Like I said, it's a survival game.
-
I am saying that even having one working car on a server could spoil it if it is in the wrong hands. Have you played the Last of Us? There is a sizable segment of the game where you run away from a bunch of survivor-murdering bandits who have a machine gun turreted armored tank. That is the scenario I am worried about, a guy driving a truck around with a few guys in the back with snipers and shotguns, picking off zombies and survivors with little effort. I appreciate that gathering the supplies necessary to do this would be astoundingly difficult, but the people with the biggest motivation to do so are the people who want this game to be COD, and they are the people who kill on sight. People who are happy to just be scavengers and enjoy the task of pure survival may be simply wiped out on certain servers if vehicles aren't implemented properly. All I want to do is make sure that vehicles don't become a 'gamebreaker', which they could if the developers rushed them.
-
How is it different? And who told you there are going to be MASSIVE amounts of cars in game. You're posting like you have facts and know exactly how it will be in game when actually, you don't. Vehicles WILL be in game and I can tell you it IS set in stone. Vehicles are a HUGE factor in ANY apocalyptic scenario. It would hurt DayZ if they were taken away.
-
I have easily over 150 hour of flight time, and my worst vehicles are everyone you just named. Unless it's a Huey/Blackhawk/Chinook, etc, we are going no where.
