    Map loot markers

Thats what a GPS is for, although not introduced to the standalone yet. This game isn't supposed to balance maps to other gamebreaking features like dayzdb etc. Also once you learn the map where you can look at a road sign or landmark and know exactly where you are like some of us both maps become irrelevant. Instead of showing you possible sites and caches of things, I would like to see you be able to draw on maps. Scribble in enemy base locations and maybe caches of loot that you know of, vehicles, and even landmarks so you can better your knowledge of Chernarus. I would like to see something like that implemented near release. EDIT: Ahhh crazykage you beat me to it, I literally submitted that seconds after you typed your response.

For me it's finding other peoples bases and campsites and vehicles. There's nothing like the rush of stumbling across someone else's base when they aren't there. Funny story, the coolest base I found in the mod was one that consisted of, a ural, an atv, a bicycle, a uaz, and the offroad pickup, with about 7 tents and stash spots scattered around. After taking the uaz and filling the gear slots to 200/200 or whatever it was with all their stuff, I decided to do one last thing to the camp before I bailed. The satchel charge I found in the offroad was just too tempting. I placed the charge on the truck and ran quite aways back. BOOOOOM. The blast was huge knocked me back and knocked over a tree which fell on top of me. You are dead. Lmao I actually somehow sprinted back to gorka from electro and found the camp again before it was too late. Too funny tho.

Endgame... Camping (and fighting over camps/Items) Diplomacy (relations, truces, pacts with other groups) Vehicles (fixing, hiding, having them stolen, recovering them, holding them for ransom) PVP (comes last on my list lol) When you loose that camp that you spent weeks building up, you will be pissed and see true dayz endgame. This game is all about emotions, from fear and helplessness at the start, to tension and fear during engagements, then rage (x10 of a normal game because of the effort put in) at dying or loosing a camp. If you play on the same server all the time you will get to know the regulars, and who the likely culprits will be....a new clan war is born :) These wars can be brilliant back and forths....They loot your camp, put everything you own into your cars, then roll off into the sunset.....after destroying your tents for the kicks. Then full of rage and anger you start hunting there camp to retrieve your cars and loot. Its almost never ending. Its cool when yu find your cars.....with some tasty extra items in them. Or you can be really mean and extract revenge.....keep eyes on there camp, wait for them to log in and end them....then fuck up the camp :) Sometimes you can negotiate a truce with other friendly/bandit clans, whatever your style. We had a camps off limits pact with one of the bandit groups and trade going on with the other 2 friendly groups. Once you have a camp you don't mind dying half as much so people are a lot more likely to give it a chance when someone says "friendly". That's some good Interaction endgame. I remember one time in the mod at the NWA, where a clan we had a truce with were already looting. We let them know with a lil "yo, we 300m to your SW"...Unknown to us one of the bandit clans had eyes on them aswell. When they opened fire we instantly backed up the other group, but as we did ANOTHER bandit clan was watching the whole thing. They moved around the outside wall and came up behind the other bandits, then over direct called a truce and formed one big group. The friendly group ran to us and it turned into a 10ish vs 10ish cross NWA firefight, that was some epic PVP end game, reading all the stories from diff angles on the server forums after was cool aswell :)
  4. Remember that Epoch is an entirely different game from DayZ mod. It's kinda like comparing Counter-Strike to Half Life. Epoch is a mod of DayZ mod. That being said, several private hive DayZ mod servers do have ridiculous settings like 1,000+ vehicles 1,000+ helicopters 24/7 daytime, etc. From the beginning, vanilla DayZ mod has been a game that focuses on survival and working hard to obtain gear, and while newcomers would find the zombies really challenging they became kinda easy to deal with once you realized you could just outrun them. Also, nutrition wasn't much of a factor as long as you had 1 can of food and 1 soda with you. While PvE and survival have always been an element in DayZ mod, they are now much more integral to the game. You cannot just outrun zombies and you are required to hunt and cook food as well as find and boil water to maintain good health. I love the new dynamics!

Some of Epoch's concepts are a good representation of a potentially fun, meaningful metagame, even if Epoch itself suffered badly from the taint of engine limitations and stupid server configurations along the lines of hundreds of vehicles. There should be clan-controlled outposts, armed NPC trade caravans that patrol from outpost to outpost, NPC missions, NPC survivor / bandit camps, and other awesome shit. Overall, guided and scripted NPC interactions should accompany the sandbox experience of the game. More gameplay features along the lines of vehicles and items are always nice, but they don't significantly contribute toward the objective of fostering a sense of community, and they never, ever will. DayZ should be something of a hybrid between a sandbox and an experience influenced by NPC interactions as opposed to the empty, pure sandbox that it is.

When vehicles are in, there shall be banger racing. Hopefully the driving mechanics are up to the job.
  7. No one is banned for using non-hack programs (like Fraps, overlays, etc.), picking up or using hacked in-game items, weapons or vehicles, being on a server at the same time as a cheater, or other passive non-cheating activity. No details about your ban (including evidence) will be revealed. Hackers would love to have access to this information and therefore we cannot disclose that. Here are some quotes from the BattlEye FAQ. Because I have some understanding of how BattlEye operates I can assure you that these are absolutely true and no such thing as a false ban exist, excepting one incident in the past which was rectified immediately. BattlEye is also under no pressure to issue bans to "meet some numbers" like you suggested, therefore there is no reason for them to do that. You can only get banned for running some sort of a malicious software. If (and this is a big if) there was something running without your knowledge, Im afraid that is your responsibility and your problem. The criteria for the product being available to use (or the opposite for that matter) are outlined in the respectable TOS and EULA to which you have to agree to before even running the game. If you break either (even unknowingly), access to the software can and will be denied which is a standard practice anywhere really.

Probably holding on to it for as long as you can. Maintaining your clothes/guns/equipment/vehicles/base - all of those things will degrade when used in future versions of the game. Some other activities the game will present which we don't know about yet. All in all, DayZ will suffer the same fate as any other game - it will fade away into history of gaming, as it should, as players turn to something new. The game is not your life, you can't expect it to entertain you until you die. Although DayZ has a much bigger sack of possible activities that other games due to being sandbox i.e. It's as elaborate or dumb as the player who is playing it.
  9. My idea of the purpose of persistent storage is so that you can keep a bigger variety of equipment to perform different tasks than you can fit into one backpack - not so that you can hoard spare guns to gear up with quickly as some sort of way to 'cheat' death. If you want to go hunting or fishing, or you want to build a fire, or useful items, you can't carry everything you need in one go alongside all you weapons, ammo and medical supplies. So storage allows you to leave what you don't need for whatever specific task, and return later in the knowledge that it hasn't been wiped out by a server reset. Hopefully, inventory size and weight will, in future, affect your character's ability to move quickly and quietly over longer distances: so if you're going to a gunfight, you travel light in order to be fast and stealthy, and not tire too quickly; you don't lug around fireplace kits and tools, which you leave back at 'camp'. As I understand it, the devs' goal regarding persistent items is to eventually make everything persistent, not just things you put in certain 'storage' containers such as tents or vehicles. You could leave fishing equipment in a backpack near a lake so that you can always go there if you need/want to; you could hide a gun somewhere near your location so you can run there if threatened; you could collect books; etc. Regarding persistent storage as as means to defy death: in my view, you should be locked out of the server you died on for 24 hours, to prevent people re-gearing off their old corpse or stored items. It would also force you to start afresh in a new server where you don't know the whereabouts of other players and loot, and you can't rejoin a gunfight that you were fairly and squarely eliminated from. This'd mean you properly have to start again from scratch after a death - as it should be. The only exception to this would be server admins on their own server - you have one steam account nominated as admin for each server, and they and only they get to respawn on that server after death, as a perk for providing others with a place to play for free.

  11. wow - difficult question dude. To keep the game sharp: I think the answer has to be Yes - when you die you loose everything. but what happens if storage is shared, if the original owner of the container - the person who placed it - dies ? then it all vanishes, right ? what happens to vehicles, barricades, bases ? I guess these things can't hang around "for ever" just because someone created them once... so what to do ? e.g. you build a base (or plant a tent) you fill it with stuff - when you die the stuff vanishes, does the base or the tent vanish too ? suppose it is a friend's tent - does his stuff vanish, or only yours, or neither because it is not your tent ? An easier decision is about dead bodies I would very much like to see dead players stay in game for quite a while (and bring back flies too, they were cool) BUT I want it to be impossible for a player to loot his own body So you can ask your friend to loot the body for you, or other players can loot it, but you yourself can't.

    We need 60-100 player sever

100 players is great if you want deathmatching and gunfights all the time, but if you want to actually survive, build a camp, have warz with other clans, have diplomacy with some clans 100 is just too crowded. Even as little as 20 people can make the map feel very alive when each of the 20 is divided between 4 groups. Each group having some tents and vehicles means everyone is mobile and well equipped, so encounters happen more often. When everyone is mobile and entrenched a server with 40 people could start to feel crowded :)

  14. I likethe way of think. The spawns definetly need to be as far as possible from the high value loot areas and it would be great if you would be killed off by the enviroment, hunger or thirst if you started to run towards the west end of the map from the spawn without first looting some food and other equipment near by. For example in DayZ Namalsk one of the most valuable loot areas was this military base on top of a mountain. The climb was tedious and the worst part about it was that on the mountain top the temperature dropped so low that you would start to freeze in minutes unless you had special cloathing or a backpack full of heat packs. Unfortunately you could not be killed by the cold, but because your hand started to shake aiming became almost impossible and eventually you would become infected which would eat up over 50% of your blood and made you cough constantly. Ofcourse you could cure this by taking some antibiotics, but Namalsk only had one area with hospitals (that were camped by people almost 24/7) in it and the developer of that sub-mod (proapbly a sadist) decreased the spawn chance of antibiotics in total. So in general it was not worth the weight to climb up to that mountain top unless you were equipped for that. Something similiar could (and should) be implemented to DayZ SA as well so one would not simply walk to NW airfield without first gearing up for the trip. If DayZ was more sci-fi then I would propably suggest something like the Brain Scorcher from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -series, but I would be okey with just harsh enviroment full of angry (and lethal) wildlife and zombies ofcourse. Incase you are not familiar S.T.A.L.K.E.R. -series or the Brain scorcher I'll give a short description of both of them inside this spoiler. Actually, building your camp at the edge of map is one of the worst places for a camp I could think of. It is way too obvious. In the mod there were alot of people that went spesifically tent hunting and they would usually run around the edges of the map looking for tents. I've done it couple of times with great success. In my past I've had couple success full camp sites (the best one was never found since it vanished because "the devs broke the mod" so the tents and vehicles didn't save propely, but our camp site of four tents, two motorcycles and an atv was up and running for over a week) and I can assure you these were not near the edges of the map. Ofcourse I am not going to reveal you my secret locations because I am going to use them when the persistent items get implemented but I can tell you one place which no longer exists. There used to be this barn at the end of the road that went North of Vybor. At the time we were playing Breaking Point so there was alot of vehicles in the game. I think we had two military trucks, humwee with a grenade launcher, 2-3 off-road cars, a police car, couple atvs and motorcycles and three different kind of UAZs hidden inside the barn. The biggest problem with the vehicles was that they were damn hard to hide from helicopters, but because they were inside a barn no one could see them above. Ofcourse both of the trucks were full of guns, ammo, food, spare parts, medical supplies, backpacks etc, so if we would need to move the camp to a more safer location we could just hop in them and drive off. Our "motorpool" stayed hidden for about 5 days, but then it was discovered by a fresh spawn with nothing on him. He drove a tractor about 200 m from our barn and ran straight through the forrest into our barn. Fortunately at the time we were inside our barn so we killed him immediately but unfortunately our location was compromised. So we rolled out the trucks, planted all the satchel charges we had inside the barn and leveled the place with all the vehicles in it. After we shedding few manly tears we drove off into the sun set.

    Whats your player type?

Well, I've done pretty much everything there is to do and PvP is the only thing left that can be fun every now and then. When there's some new content I'm always there to check it out. Currently waiting for vehicles in SA. I wonder how many people I'll be able to kidnap by stoping next to them and yelling "Get in the car! There's no time to explain!"
  16. d.walker43

How long do you reckon SA will be like the mod?

almost nobody here has answered your question so I shall do it. I agree things move a bit slow, but you have to remember that Bohemia is a smaller studio with less staff. They said that the game should reach beta version at the end of 2014 or beginning of 2015. Vehicles are planned to be added in the 3rd quarter of the year, starting with simple stuff like bikes, ATV's, maybe some small cars. in the 4th quarter (so pretty much end of the year) they will get into advanced vehicles such as helicopters, planes, boats, trucks, etc. As far as I know, the roadmap for 2014 made at the beginning of the year is still somewhat accurate. Hope my answer helped  :P
  17. Any guesses? I stopped playing the standalone and jumped on Epoch cause things were moving bit too slow for me. Just wondering if the original timelines had been updated yet, as vehicles were planned for summer and there's not a lot of time left.

    Can people stop saying...

I'm not one of the "1st person only" people... most of my game time is spent on 3rd person servers, but I think they should just make the game completely 1st person while on foot. I would however appreciate a 3rd person camera while inside vehicles. Driving vehicles and flying choppers in 1st person is fucking painful. I think BF3 demonstrated this well.. there was no 3rd person for infantry, but was for heli's/tanks/etc.

    Bigfoot

Bigfoot is out there. Supposedly thats why vehicles have been pushed to the back burner for so long. Rocket has been up day and night scripting foot prints and behaviour as well as working on license rights to Bigfoot howling sounds.

    We need 60-100 player sever

This. Also, add the following: 60-100 player serversWay more zombiesLoot respawns in-game without server restartVehiclesPermanent item storage (aka "tents" / vehicle storage)Voila, GoTY awards out the wazoo. Obviously this will take much time. However, once we have 60 player servers, loot respawns and possibly a few dozen vehicles, things would be much more exciting.

    "Safe" zones

That's the first thing I'd worry about if those existed. Without a safe way to ferry people out of there, you might as well call it the Ring of Death. If vehicles were in the game and you could get choppered to another town, great.

    Cars in Dayz Standalone

Even with like 100 vehicles on a server it's usually something like: 85 hidden all over the map. Forests, bushes etc. Mostly far away from spawn points and cities. 5 being currently used. 8 sitting on their spawn points - completly ruined, require hours of collecting parts to repair them. 2 sitting in crowded places as bait, being covered by sniper fire. Get used to running. Cars are loud, difficult to maintain and make you a target for everyone that can see or hear you.
  24. Simply put hardcore mode is not why you would expect out of a hardcore mode it's really just 3rd person disabled. Honestly I think people just call it hardcore mode to sound cool but I don't run a server so I don't know if it's a check box that sus hardcore mode. Here is what I do know! Based on what every argument I've see is is that third person is the more "hardcore" mode right now because that's a minority play style that people can't overcome with first person. All of which I've personally addressed in this post about how to fix and make 3rd person no more of an advantage than first. And I'd probably make this text real big if I was on my laptop but I'm on my phone. The only true issue from the third person camera is the "wire" it's on. It designed for vehicle use. Go hop on Battlefield 4 go to a normal server hop in a jeep and toggle third person. From a vehicles perspective the camera is fine the simple fix is..... See my other responses. The "hardcore" part isn't about the gamer it's about the effect of the mode (every other hardcore mode is 0 regen, low health, no HUD etc) if third person shooters were "babycore" they never would have made the MLG circuit. Also I'm a freaking relic I was on my way to the pro circuits when the CPL folded to MLG and guess how many FPS games from PC make the pro circuits now? There is no better play style here only different ones. Quit acting like a "l33t3st" because you'd don't play mode x or mode y! Wanna be a "hardcore" gamer? Which I honestly think has no defined definition any more, go win a pro circuit tourney get sponsored have a blast then you can run in mine or whoever'a face how you are so "hardcore" until then just have freaking fun! Accept that your style isn't my style and that's ok cause it ain't about that it's about your enjoyment. And /endrant #timetobeaunicorn #humansmakemyheadhurt

    New Character Traits

I think that each character that spawns should have some sort of trait such as Doctor, Engineer (for when there are vehicles) blacksmith, ect. For example, the Doctor would be able to use more medical supplies than other types of players. They could mend broken bones, perform blood transactions ect while other players would only be able to do simple things such as apply bandages or auto injectors. The engineer could modify vehicles and repair them and the blacksmith would be able to mend weapons and attachments. This would remove the "killing on site" because players might need other traits of people to join their group and help them survive. Please post your ideas or suggestions in the comments.
