60 player Chernarus servers in the mod felt much more lively for one main reason (in my opinion): vehicles. Vehicles were quite loud and easily visible, thus high vehicle population servers made it seem like more action was occurring. People running around on foot are alot more sneaky and stealthy, and that is a reason player interaction seems like less than it is. A bit higher server population (60-80 minimum) + vehicles = alot more visible/noticable player activity. Key words here are visible/noticeable. In the end, I think once the game is actually completed (version 1.0) and there are private hives available for server hosts to tinker with the amount of vehicles/loot/players/etc they want on their server, everyone will find the server that has their ideal DayZ experience. Personally I like alot of vehicles and more players, but that is just me. If you do not, then there will be a server to cater to your playstyle/preferences as well. I am not the type to force upon you what I think is best, which is why I think private hives will be a godsend. Good things come in time, often it takes a long time. A reason why MGS5:TPP will be 10x better than any CoD game. 5 years of development vs. 1 year of development. Lol. -

Yeah I really think vehicles aren't too far away since they implemented the new weather features, but I think barricading will be before vehicles. -

They are 11 or so months into a 3 year development. Beta I would assume would happen sometime next year but you don't really add things in beta you fix things. For wanted features though i'd say we will have most of the core things in fairly soon. I believe they that the first implementation of vehicles will be in the next experimental build but i could just be retarted so don't take my word for it. We already have alot of the core things though, we have hunting, the start of persistence, the start of the weather effects, fishing, zombies are getting there. Really the only thing the mod has that SA doesn't is vehicles and building/barricading but vehicles will be here soon and barricading will follow them. -
This logic is flawed. Its not like you are required to get everywhere. In fact its better if travel takes some time - the beauty of a big map is that there is a lot to explore and that you won't get everywhere in no time. If you are with friends there is also the challenge of meeting up in the first place - which also adds some value to "staying alive". Now I think map size and player count should correlate to provide the right amount of interaction (both friendly and hostile) - and the current map might end up too big for 40 players when they tone down the movement to normal. Vehicles won't change too much because most players won't have one most of the time so they mostly affect maximum travel speed (and average travel speed would probably a little lower than it is now).

I've played DayZ for only about a week, but in that week I've also caught up with its progress, and it seems like it's slow BUT because they're working on a lot of features at once, including the new renderer and the revamp of the engine, so I won't be surprised that it's slow, that's actually fast for a pretty small team like them compared to other giant companies. Now, to the main topic: the recent status reports show that they're doing progress steadily, and if I remember correctly they've been working on vehicles for some weeks or months now and in the latest status report, they are working on the V3S' parts and impact implementation, which I assume to be (almost) the final things for the first vehicle, and also they have started implementing horticulture, along with barricading and server/game optimization and fixing (zombies included). That means this week and the previous week, community's most wanted features have began or are in development, but I haven't heard anything about the new engine or the renderer the previous week. The final question: Assuming the Enfusion engine (with the new renderer) will be completed before end of year, do you think DayZ will reach beta or at least have the features I mentioned? Or will it most likely be pushed back til Feb - April next year? If it gets pushed back, I am sure we will see a lot of complaints on how the game is going so slow it will never be cared about when it finishes. TL;DR: Do you think DayZ will get into Beta end of / next year? If not, will it at least have what most people have been asking for?

One thing that could encourage player interaction would be the ability to take scraps of cardboard and write a message on it, then hold it over your head in a desperate bid to get pity or assistance from strangers. I believe this could lead to interesting encounters where players might take a break from shooting anything that moves to read some silly message or may even allow players to hitchhike on the roads when vehicles come in.

I'll answer your post purposefully cutting out the rants - your reply seemed a lot more angry than necessary TBH. Well, you managed to list...what, two post-apocalyptic game franchises and a multiplayer map of a game without actual zombies? I seriously can't see how that equals to "eastern european horror is a cliché". Especially if we compare those examples to basically every other horror videogame ever. Sorry, but I assumed we were discussing about a game - not real world journalism. As far as I know when someone create a game the only way to make it work is NOT striving for realism, but for authenticity. That means even if it's obvious that real-world ex soviet republics use western gear, in a game where you want to convey the idea of being stranded in a foreign place you have to represent the fictional setting differently from reality. An example could be using old-style bus and cars models in your eastern european videogame even if in reality such vehicles are a lot less common. Another example could (should?) be western military weapons and clothes - in reality you can find USMC desert boots everywhere: I own a pair, and I'm definitely not a Marine or even an American citizen. But should you find them everywhere in a game set in a fictional eastern country? No, at least not in my opinion. Not if you want to visually convey the idea of being in a fictional, eastern country. No one here is suggesting cutting out wester weapon and/or gear from the game contents. But in this game where you're supposed to be stranded in a fictional eastern country, what should be far more common? ACU/Multicam/Marpat gear of civilian/russian military clothes? Steyr AUGs and TAVORs or eastern weapons? If you want to convey the idea, I bet the answers are the second ones. Don't tell me you're agreeing with me now :) -
It would be pain in ass because there are no vehicles, but its cool I think. Why not increase maximal players and add vehicles?

Few random issues/questions for a "born again" player (search was not very helpful)

So I haven't played since last October... bought a house, cars, got a gf (though she supports my gaming during the week haha)... so I just hadn't been able to game much at all and to be honest my short break from DayZ just sort of turned into a long term break up almost lol. I was excited to get back into the SA and I've been through the mod since almost day one. Game seems to really be making progress and I watched a few videos of where the game is heading (can't wait for vehicles soon!!). The last few nights I've tried getting back into the game, I've noticed a few things however that have me perplexed. I've been searching a lot and even with quotes I seem to be out of luck with reliable search results. It'll pull up tons of random threads not related at all even filtering the forum sections. Zombie Bodies: When I kill a zed (which thankfully don't seem to be glitching through walls or super zombies anymore lol), the new 'rag doll' thing must be buggy. Immediately following its death (redeath? :rolleyes: ) the body just slides downhill. Then its not even lootable (not that I find anything on bodies anymore..haven't yet). Is this a major known issue with the bodies sliding down? **Side Note: these suckers can still see you 100's (yes many) yards away in the day light. I've literally seen a zed get agroed across a city/field. But at least at night they appear to be almost completely blind and deaf cause Ive walked nearly INTO one even with a flashlight, and they don't seem to care. Even flares don't seem to really attract them. And they seem to rarely even follow you into a building or open doors if you shut it behind yourself. Fireplaces/Camp fires: I have chopped wood and picked up the wood/sticks. I have matches. But having either does not give me the option to create/build a fire. Do I need more materials like rocks or something? *Suggestion: I would love to be able to utilize the stoves and fireplaces in buildings by adding wood/match. Since body temperature is such a big thing now, I see one in almost every building. It doesn't really make sense to not be able to stay dry (lots of rain I'm noticing....) and make a fire. I'm guessing they may implement this some day. Looting: I will be on a server with little to no players. Ill hit up a new town and almost every building or shack has little to no loot. Then I may hit a few things here and there, but places like the grocery store or apt's have no valuable items like compasses, clothes, etc. Just tons and tons of sodas. Even after a restart, I'll be the only player on. When I leave a city for a 100m or so and come back just to verify, many places still have zilch to loot. 3rd Person: personally, I love 3rd person. I know its not as realistic, but I enjoy seeing the character plus I have a tendency to pan a lot while running or moving about. I've noticed if I have a weapon in my hand (any type), and put it away using the same number (like 1 for rifle, hitting 1 again to put it away) my guys hands go up like hes trying to fight or in a defense mode. Its VERY annoying because he wont put them away unless I stand still for like 30+ second. He's basically 'raising' his melee/hands but I cant get them to go back down without changing menus or messing around and it'll randomly go back to normal stance (or as stated, I just stand there and he seems to relax a minute or less later). Journal: there was an option before (mod) to have a journal. Right now you hit "J" and it opens up the screen but theres literally no interaction or anything to do. Since I don't see the zed count, blood level, etc that the screen used to show in the HUD, I'd like to track things in my Journal. Is this not an enabled/functional feature at this time despite the controls showing 'J' for Journal? If someone has a link to any or all of these I'd be happy to read through the known issues/discussions. I know the hypo/hyper temperature thing is broken right now. I am excited to hear that vehicles are coming (Ive passed up a few parts since I know they're useless right now lol). But just to play a little more normal right now I thought I'd get these things out of my system as I am basically a 'new' player all over again. -

That's the mod, they're going for more realism with SA. Vehicles are going to be harder than just 'engine parts' 'wheel' 'scrap metal' 'gas tank'. We're talking down to spark plugs here, and things like removing bulky objects like doors from other vehicles, and I highly doubt we're gonna be able to fit doors in our packs.

**DISCLAIMER** Yes I know the 870 could be added with the 133 according to the wiki but that is not the point of my post **Disclaimer end** This is another gun wishlist, But there is reasons why this is here But I am not listing them >:-D Let's start off with some kind of Over and Under shotgun as a rarer (and less reliable) alternative to the IZH-43 (which is a Side by Side) in the game as of typing this. It's more of a compliment weapon than anything new, Speaking of compliment 12g Birdshot should be implemented alongside the reimplementation of 12g Slugs. And would also like either the Mossberg 550 or Remington 870 (or even both!) again as a Western complement to the Beikal MP-133 that is in the game files. I would also think that some kind of light .22 bolt action rifle/.22 SMG could make it into the game at a later date. Also the M203 and GP-25 could be a great way to fight back against campers in buildings and vehicles if they choose to add them later on into the development. And to top it all off for the firearms the M1 garand would be a Pingin' idea to add. But with all the weapons in the game now I would also like them to add more protection (Military, Police or Makeshift) or even a riot shield as a way to tip the odds. as my 12 cents get looted of my dead guy I would like to hear your opinions and ideas Happy fragging!

Just registered to say big thanks for the great vanilla dayz server! Stopped playing DayZ Mod for a long time, because almost disappeared normal servers without hackers and lot additional things like weapons, vehicles etc. Recently found that server and desire to play back. Game on this server is nostalgic for better times of DayZ Mod. Big thanks for admins, and long life to server. P.S Sorry for my English, used a google translator. -
I find the current map size to be reasonable when consider vehicles, I'm not interested in seeing it expanded. What I would like to see is unique buildings in every town, at least one in the small towns.These buildings could have some unique incentives, giving players more reason to explore. For example, some items only spawn in the unique building of one town or the % chance x item spawns is far greater than other area's x item spawns. Of course also waiting on mod tools.

A few Observations, Bugs, and Requests

I think that a lot of these things aren't actual bugs but features. It seems like you're quite used to the 'simpleness' of the Arma 2 DayZ mod. The standalone is advanced in many ways. -Firearms and ammunition is meant to be rare, scarce and hard to obtain. People argue that it should be even harder than what it is, this can be debated in other topics I'm sure. -Item damage is a feature to decrease KOS as it ruins the purpose of looting the shot player unless you get him in the head, also for personal reference, I've never had 'all' of my items ruined by bullets unless I got shot in the back with an AK/M4 and in that case I'm very lucky to actually be alive. And those items probably saved me. -You can already put certain firearms in your inventory (MP5K, sawed off shotgun, Longhorn). Of course a Mosin Nagant would never fit in any backpack, perhaps making it possible to rotate items would make it possible to fit an M4 in a mountain backpack. -Pistols and rifles will load with 'R' if you have a clip or a speed/snaploader on you. The manual reload is supposed to symbolize how tedious it is to manually load a Mosin Nagant with 5 bullets in real life, I think. -I haven't had much testing with the hypo and hyperthermia yet, but I maintained a reasonable body temperature when I had a pristine rain coat, hunter pants, gloves, ushanka and boots on me. I think item condition has a lot to do about the clothing's actual effect on heat. Food is not a problem, get green energized and green hydrated and you could probably venture from Kamenka to Berezino without starving or dehydrating. -Zombies are still greatly being worked on. So everything mentioned about them is probably due to change. Vehicles are on their way (You can easily find the roadmap for the game). Global Communication will probably never see the light of day unless you play on a modded server that has that implemented somehow in the future. So go out there, find that information! Do that research! And I promise you that you won't have any questions about the games integrity any longer! NOTE: Don't get your hopes up on vehicles don't think that highways will have traffic jams. Hey, first want state that I played old ARMA2 DayZ Mod as first expierence to DayZ After waitin long while I finaly decided purchase the Standalone Alpha and its very glitched in significant ways and this is version .49 gettin updated into .50 very soon from what I read on featured updates/Youtube vids. Here are all problems I have encountered only 2nd day into playing Standalone Alpha Bugs - I Know DayZ is a very realistic hardcore game that makes players work hard find gear/weapons/supplys however its incredibly rare to find any firearm weapon in game now and if you are lucky enough find rifle theres 0 ammo for it completely useless - All military/police/firestations (THE ONLY PLACES WITH RIFLES) are looted every server find with more than 10 players. You should consider adding higher random % spawn chance of guns being in random houses/buildings all over map not just in concentrated areas. - Item Damage rates insanely HIGH!, using tools or getting shot destroys all inventory in only few moments its broken feature, Fireaxe breaks after 3 tree chopping actions, Shoot enemy 2 times all gear broken when try loot them, this damaged gear feature is not working properly and ruins gameplay you need remove it completely or drasticly scale down % rate damage on ALL ITEMS/WEAPONS - If have large enough backpack you should be able carry spare rifle in inventory - Pistols and Rifles wont load with 'R', you have go into inventory manualy load weapons with ammo mid-combat this is shitty feature - Always Freezing Cold all time even after have many clothes equiped, indoors, no rain Always Hungry ( Ate 4 cans food in row still starving only 15min into gameplay) , Starve & Freeze way too fast even with food and clothes not realistic - Zombies killed in doorway get trapped in room, they act like barricade and cant step over them with 'V' so your trapped have log out of game please remove collision - Zombies do not have any items on body after kill them (You should get can food or little ammo off killin zombies, some can have no loot but not 100% all time) - Zombies spawn inside walls/ceilings you can hear them but they are trapped in wall and they can still hit your character with invisible attacks have run out of building or get killed - Zombies spawn at large distance then lock onto character like homing beacon at any distance cant get away/hide you are forced to kill them (even spawning fresh on Coast with no gear) - Zombies knock unconcious, wont attack body, then when finaly regain concious they instantly knock you out then game gets stuck on blackscreen and wont confirm you die it freezes on knockout screen ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My only 2 immediate requests are PUT VEHICLES INTO GAME SOON AS POSSIBLE! & Enable Global Chat so players can communicate with admin and eachother Every Server I have tried theres no Global Chat so cant communicate with admins or anybody really, have yell at strangers lucky enough come across on fuzzy soundin game-mic (Most players using Teamspeak or Steamchat for communication get around this so its not adding to the game's immersion having Global Chat disabled) this can make servers seem dead and inactive. The scale of Map is massive to move around without some form of transportation (ARMA2 DayZ atleast had simple vehicles to use on main roads), I know the .50 update will have 'Vehicle Parts' added however if your not adding in complete driveable car or truck or even a bicycle then these 'parts' are useless junk right? This game has great potential but is still lacking a stable gameplay platform, my only advice is focusing more on basics of game function and fixing bugs than adding in extra Misc. items, crafting recipes, small village details because none of this matters when you cant find working gun with 3 bullets or stay alive 5min without dying of starvation

the point im trying to make is and I'm sure people will correct me if I'm wrong, but it was my understanding that police cars were new bonus spawn vehicles just like Heli crashes, meaning they appear randomly on the map in each server session. -
It will not be in the next one, they just keep putting pictures up every time to give you the illusion of progress even though in game it is not there, your best of expecting vehicle four months from now and then you will not be disappointed. Also remember vehicles can not be put into the game into persistence is fully working otherwise how are they going to save, so expect working persistence and tents long before vehicles.

(Scratten and AWOL are the ONLY safe trader)No building Within camping radius of all general traders and AWOLNo building on static AI mission Island.For more information please visit our website at http://ftbbi.enjin.com/rules Events -Death Match - Gear up and meet for a shootout, player with the most kills during the shoot out will be the winner.(Not last man standing) -Bandit Convoy - A few vehicles will be moving from town to town with gears, destination and arrival will be announced in global for people to ambush. -Custom Castle Assault - There will be a team of attackers assaulting one of the custom castles while another team defends it, team that captures the castle within the shortest amount of time will be the winner. -Air assault - Grab one of the aircraft and have an air battle over a designated location! -King of the hill - Two team will fight for control of a hill, at designed time a fully geared chopper will arrive for whoever controls the hill. -Murder House TDM - Two team will be ported to the murder house, a close quarter combat arena. During the event, the area will be protected by our admin anti-hack dome. Only those invited can enter the arena. You'll be given a tent to store your gears then given a full kit to fight during the event. Players will be ported back once event ended, most matches are best of three rounds.
