  1. Now that 0.51 has reached stable branch we've had the pleasure of watching how the survivors of Chernarus interact and experiment with its content and mechanics. Be it player to player interaction through the extension of the meat harvesting systems, or traveling together across the map in search of a V3S. For now the team is focused on critical bugfixes and server side performance optimization for 0.52 midway through December (due to the upcoming holiday season). For me, the first two quarters of 2015 hold a great deal of excitement. The last year has had a large amount of work ongoing behind the scenes that effect gameplay, and playability for a significant part of the active Early Access userbase. As someone that has spent over three thousand hours in Chernarus this year I am genuinely excited for the possibilities. Speaking of my time in Chernarus, as you all know the military tent (packable) was recently added into stable branch. This as I envision it is one among many possible "persistent objects" that survivors can find, and use to create their own base camp in Chernarus. Ranging from tents, to barriers, horticulture, containers, varied levels of fireplaces, and so much more - I see this feature expanding upon the initial pup tents of the mod into something that resembles a true improvised and -scalable- survivor camps. Speaking of survivor communities, our Private Shard contest has concluded and while I am happy to announce the winners - I have to say there were far more entries than I had expected, and the decisions were not at all easy. There are a lot of fantastic DayZ communities out there, and at the very least I now have a whole list of servers I need to take time to visit. The winners, in no specific order are: - FriendlyFlashMob - The Midnight Crew - TAW.net Congratulations to the winners, make sure to reach out to [email protected] to start the process of claiming your private shard server. For those who entered and did not win, don't be sad - Of all the tons of submissions, there was not one that was not outstanding. We'll be rolling out new support and options for private shards in January, so keep your eyes open for those. Still not a bandit. - Brian Hicks / Lead Producer Chris / Lead Artist "Long time, no talk! Sorry about that - but it was for good reason. Lots of things are going on with the art team! Character Art: Current character work is focused around the upcoming changes to the zombie AI and animation systems. We are re skinning the old zombies and exporting the skeletons into a new proprietary format. This has not, however, this has not held us back from creating a new batch of zombie model templates with which we can quickly create loads of new zombie types of various shapes/sizes/and ages. This is particularly important since the latest news regarding testing of the new zombies suggests we may soon be able to significantly increase the number of zombies spawning. Work in this area will be ongoing and my still take some time to finish but it should pay dividends in the long run. Regarding survivor clothing, we finished a bomber jacket and will be also adding a new quilted jacket, which should have fewer model clipping issues than the current bubble jacket, which it is intended to eventually replace. Weapons: We added the AUG in a somewhat unfinished state as it currently does not work with any attachments. However, we do hope to transform it into a highly modifiable platform and adding a RIS is the first step in that direction. The model is ready and soon, perhaps, I'll release a picture as a teaser. We're also working on a Winchester Model 70 Alaskan which means I need to get off my butt and figure out a design for scope situation (i.e. one scope for many rifles). Also, its possible that I was told to make sure the suppressors are looking pretty so that they can be triumphantly re-added. Vehicles: Now that design is settling on some technical requirements as it relates to art for vehicles, we're formulating a vehicles roadmap to plan for the number and types of vehicles that design has requested. It will be exciting to see the vehicles feature expand in the coming weeks. We also recently added a new helicopter crash site which looks quite a bit better than the old UH60s." Mirek / Lead Gameplay Programmer "This week we have pushed the current work on new Infected/Animals AI into internal testing. The core AI system was developed by the Bratislava team and is also using the new animation system, which will help us to have better navigation for AI units and more complex combat systems. For the initial implementation, there is not many new things about the infected, but it should improve better server performance and navigation. It will also allow us to have more infected on the map and to implement stealth mechanics into the game. Current testing is aimed for performance and if everything will go fine, we're planning to push it on to experimental servers (once we’re happy with how it performs). After that we're planning to tweak stealth and combat and we would like to push it on experimental servers with 0.53 version. We're also continuing on tweaking vehicles, improving loot distribution and loot respawning systems and other long term tasks, such as new game control mechanics and a new inventory system. I hope that surviving in Chernarus is a little bit more satisfying now with your new best friend - Praga V3S (by the way V3S is an abbreviation for the 3-ton military special). Indeed that rolled out version has rather stripped down functionality however you should enjoy the free ride while it lasts. We started to work on more complex mechanics for maintenance and repair. The battery will be most probably the next part that will be needed to get your vehicle functional so without it you can try to start the engine as many times as you want but it won’t get you anywhere, which also means that we are adding in the actual action for turning the engine over and off. If everything goes fine we will add animations for entering and exiting the vehicle as they were removed in last minute before release due some issues with action conditions that leads to undesirable results such as entering/exiting vehicle through closed doors. We are also working on setting up the inventory container for the V3S as with the current state of inventory implementation it is not trivial as it seems. New color variants of V3S are ready to go so you will be soon have the chance to drive also gray, orange and blue one. You may ask what else is being worked on not regarding the vehicles? I'm glad that I can tell you there is a bunch of upcoming stuff that was hinted a long time ago, specifically silencers, chainsaw and suicide. Recently a feature to use more shooting sounds per firearm was added thus we can now made the silencers useful and bring them back to loot spawns. It also opens possibility for crafted ones so you will be able to decide if you keep that PET bottle as a water container or made a silencer from it. The chainsaw was put on hold for few reasons that were connected to animation and melee systems but now we feel it is quite a good time to push it in the wild finally at least in some crude form. We decided to redo the way how suicide was supposed to work completely. We ended up with a fluent part of the gameplay which doesn't break up the immersion. Suicide starts with a gesture and while you are in this verbose pose you can still decide if you really want to pull the trigger and end your misery at once or leave it be and try harder to survive even with bad cards on your hand. Added value of this solution is that you can do such pose even with empty hand. Apart from all that we are still improving the horticulture with the possibility of making fertilizer while cooking is being refactored with some advanced functionality in mind for example you will be able to put your ammunition to fireplace and examine what it will do with them over time. We are also supporting the hermit way of play. In the near future you won't need to scavenge surroundings for loot and become self-sufficient if you wish and choose such a way to play. For now we will be adding new items and crafting possibilities including primitive stone blade and guts, next step will be to add bones, torch and alternative way to ignite the fire without matches.   2. Hi all! I just recently bought myself a wheel and pedals and I've been having a blast with it! It just feels so real, like driving a real car. Then I noticed new patch notes for Dayz and thought to myself: Wouldn't it be the coolest thing ever to be able to do this in Dayz?
  3. For the last couple of weeks the AI bandits have been disappearing from the missions. Sometimes instantly, sometimes after between 5 to 20 minutes. The mission circles (red and blue), gear boxes, vehicles, etc remain. If there are 2 missions running the Ai from both will disappear simultaneously. The car engines that the Ai were driving continue running but all Ai just vanish. This began recently while the server was still 1.8.2 and continues now after updating to 1.8.3

    Haha, didn't know that. They have a ton of things to fix with the new vehicles I see. :D I should go find one, would love to see the new submarine they call a "land vehicle". Even tough people say that the updates are slow and "WHERE ARE THE WEHICLES!?!" stuff, I think that they are going a bit fast. I'd like to see it get done faster, but the faster Bohemia finishes it, the less stuff will be added. Good things take time. The engine has its limitations. It's amazing what they have gotten out of Arma2 engine, and I'm excited on what they get out of it next.

    Thank you for your answer. Well those 50.cal sniper rifles very useful in the ambushes against vehicles and to take down aircrafts, also if they were very rare, it wouldn't be so OP, don't you think? :/ Well I used to have the option 'upgrade' even when I hadn't all the stuff I needed to upgrade the stash. But now? I have the crate, woods and Etool in my inventory and I don't even have the option to upgrade it anymore.. maybe it's bugged?
  6. Hi there survivors! Wonton Freak here with a little question to you all. Couple of years ago I had a server with a private little community of around 40-50 people playing, hosted on DayZ.st, We ran standard DayZ with RMOD (a couple of custom and very rare vehicle spawns and weapons) and had a password protected private hive. This summer I decided to sart up the server again, and I naturally went back to a host I had good experience with, but was shocked when I had to fight for over a month just to get my service started, after that It was bug filled, lots of lag and all other things you can consider negative. What I'm looking for now is a new host, with the same features as DayZ.st had, because I'm no programmer, and their method of server management WAS brilliant. Features I'm looking for: 1: Interactive admin map, where I can check vehicle spawns (Add, edit and remove) vehicles, edit spawn loadout (we liked spawning without anything, even flashlight) 2: Possibility to password lock and set the server into private hive 3. Install RMOD with the click of a button Many would say gaah, admin map, ADMIN ABUSE!!. But reason for number 1, is that the community we had, liked a reduced vehicle count (about halved or so) so that there would be a bit more fighting to get one. And with a map where I could change this in an instant, is nice because I don't know how to edit spawns in the server code. Reason number 2 is the player trail, it's brilliant because you can in an instant see if a player has been teleporting or moving incredible distances in a short period of time. We removed a couple of hackers that got through our application process with this method. I'm hoping for a few good replies here, and I'm grateful for all answers^^ Kind regards ¨~ Wonton Freak

    Craftable Sniper Rifle

    it would be cool to build something similar. Cannon of sorts. of course this thing is stationary and really have one shot. Might add nice elements when we get vehicles/helicopters in. Build one at your base or on the side of the road to snare a moving vehicle or put down a low flying huey. Of course this isnt something easy to make. Ammo for this is rare, or not easily crafted. Cant be loaded up and fit in a backpack. Can be sabotaged and will misfire killing the shooter. ( person using it would have no idea its broken) Can only shoot one time, as it takes some time to load it up again. Basically you are pretty much a bad ass if you build this contraption in the right spot and hit something. Once we have some kind of base building it would be cool to have

    Theres not much to test about anymore, really. Exp showed that the crafting worked and the clipping with other clothing items works fine, same for the actual camouflaging. Way better than having stable ( which is on the same patch for about a month! ) crowded with shooting bushes waiting for vehicles.

    I think your missing the point still which is why I made this post to begin with, there is no amazing 50 years into the future technology, its quite literally 99% of older vehicles can run of alternate fuel sources with minimal to no changes at all to them. Read through the thread before replying it covers people internationally knowing others who are doing this IRL, including myself with an old F-250 diesel truck looking to run it off Bio Diesel.

    Hmm... personally I feel people apply context that wasn't there. Still as we are both singing from the same hymn sheet I'll move on.. :) How do you know? Have you never had a case where you are dead and a bullet sound plays? While that is, of course, no guarantee it was a sniper it's certainly a good indicator. If you've never suffered this, then as I alluded to before, then you've been pretty lucky. DayZ 101, really. The SA has been pretty benign since it's release. The zombies are now getting worthy of avoiding and while KoS merchants always have been and always will be around the addition of vehicles adds a certain pique of panic to those who remember jumping for hedgerows in the mod while a battered old car packed full of bandits rushes past. I've yet to fire a carbine. I've had a few in my inventory since it's addition, and I've had a couple of magazines for it too, I've just never had both at the same time! I would love a Kar98k to be implemented, purely for nostalgia reasons from using them in WW2 FPS games. Despite not being made in 50 odd years, there are still a shit ton of them knocking about.

    This game and trust go good together

    If there is more that one of you I have one word.....OVERWATCH :) This is the one most basic way to have the upper hand, you leave one (or 2) of your group in the treesand then one goes and meets, the one or two that meet don't mention the other member of your group and he reacts to any untoward behaviour. After the meet and greet is out of the way (and this relies on persistence and camps to be more fleshed out) the levels of trust begin. First you play together for a few nights. Then if yyou still trustthem reveal a campsite.....this should not be your main campsite! make it a small one with some medium tier gear in it. If after a week of so they have proved they will share, contribute, and are trustworthy reveal your main camp with top tier loot. Theres always the chance you will get backstabbed and tbh while out and about there isn't a great deal you can do beyond observation/reaction speed to protect yourself from a backstab. And with the game in this stage its a lot more bitter IMO, when camping and basebuilding come it you will be a lot more protected againt it, with a lot more tools to out the backstabbers. But that's the fun of dayz....and where the tension comes from. I could do all my little checks, spend a month developing a player.....only to have them destroy my camp and take my vehicles. And I wouldn't have it any other way :D

    then why are guns and shit so un common? if it happened dayz before, then why is everything just GONE. there would be cars and guns every where, people and zombies too. and finding vehicles without parts is supposed to be how vehicles work when they are eventually added and optimized, and if its the apocalypse, most people would be dead, right? then why is everything so off? its a game, but things just dont add up. but thats why i love this game, it doesnt have official lore for the most part. you make the story up as you go. it could be something different every time, and could even change how you play (if you role play, that is)

    So, I've been inactive for quite some time, waiting on DayZ to get better. So I mosey on down for a peek at the forums, and what do I see? Low and behold, VEHICLES! Tell me, when were these introduced? Do they work? What have been the highlights since around June?

  22. After having so much bad luck on the experimental servers I finally find myself my first DayZ Standalone vehicle. Isn't she a beaut! This vehicle is the V3s, its the only vehicle out in DayZ Standalone at the moment but there are rumors that a white pickup truck will also be coming soon. If your interested where this vehicle spawn is and how to get to it - I used the DayZ DB vehicle map that was recently released. Starting from Kamewobo I headed to Tulga but there was no loot so I started winging it straight to the vehicle spawn in Msta and just as I was about to starve , random dumb luck I found a lone house between Msta and Tulga full of supply's. I'll put a picture of where it was in the bottom screen and here is the vehicle location map http://www.dayztv.com/standalone/dayz-chernarus-plus-v3s-truck-map/ There's not much food in the experimental but this house is pretty well hidden so maybe this will help you if you haven't found a vehicle yet. The controls are really nice they have obviously being testing it thoroughly. Notice the speedometer looks like it works which is wicked. Not sure if the fuel gage is or not yet but I'm pretty sure it will be. The official DayZ facebook posted a picture of the mirrors in the V3s of actually working like the do in Arma 3 so that's going to be really cool to all you 1st person players out there. This is all the animations for it, you can currently open all the doors and the hood of the vehicle. I'm guessing that when parts are introduced this is the method you'l be taking in getting one of these vehicles operational. Opening the hood and placing items like a battery inside. They have estimated that the V3s will be out on stable DayZ at the start of next year I'm very excited to see it. MUSIC: The Glitch Mob - Drive It Like You Stole It

    Hey .. it's happened (I mean just stepping on the brake, not breaking a leg in a collision) .. but.. hmm ... maybe not often .. to find it you have to look right down at the bottom of the list of "ways you can injure yourself around vehicles". It's way down past 'trapping your fingers when you close the car door' You never heard that you can choke to death on a chicken bone? And I read somewhere about a guy who died swallowing a peeled Satsuma orange too fast.. Maybe we should have "You ate your food without chewing it" - "you are dead" xx ed: off topic - And oh, DayZ players - opening a rusty can with a rusty bayonet ?? ... don't you know what you can DO to yourself there?.. stick to PvP dudes. ps - I think we should start a "Bring Gangrene into DayZ" movement. For self-treated wounds (gunshot, scratches, fractures, opening cans) Gangrene is NEAT.

    I'd say heavily rusted vehicles all about the place gives some indication that a lot of time has passed, or at least could be used to argue that point. And the buildings seem to be going for that abandoned post apocalyptic look, because the designers seem to like that aesthetic---and that's fine. I just don't think they are particularly bound by making things entirely consistent which is precisely why people can use anything to argue their opinion of when the game is set.
