What do you do after you get some basic survival gear?
[email protected] replied to roundkickkid's topic in New Player Discussion
better loot, vehicles, nvg, gps, ghille (all in one life isn't such a cakewalk) set up a camp, get some sd weapons and practice headshots. Surviving and actually doing things besides living in the forest is still a challenge. -
We already reported this directly to the server admin but i figured I'd post it here too. Two guys, "triss" and "bae d" were spawning in fighter jets and attack helis along with tons of other vehicles. They nukes the entire coast the other night. Server was restarted and everything was cleaned up, however last night we had A-10s destroying vybor and other northern towns, however those 2 guys weren't on the server at that time (at least not under those names). I have a ton of screenshots but I'm posting this from work so I'll have to edit this post later when I get home. I wanted to get this info out there tho.

This has been asked in about every Arma mod forum before Dayz. I think it would be too difficult to incorporate the feature being Arma 2 doesn't have anything of the sort by source. Perhaps you could mod the turret of some vehicles but odds are it would function bad and look terrible.

You increase your body temperature by: Moving (very slow, faster movement speed will neutralise loss) Fireplace (very fast) Heat Pack (Instant) Inside Buildings (slow) Sunshine (slow - moderate based on time of day) Sitting in Vehicles - Slow/moderate Your body temperature will decrease when: Night (slow) Raining (fast) Wind (slow) Water (Very fast) From the wiki.

In some ex Soviet states, police organizations occasionally DO have some vehicles mounted with machine guns in the rear. And I love how the military left their guns and ammo scattered all over the place, but systematically managed to airlift or sabotage every single one of their armed vehicles. I have a feeling it would be difficult to do this scripting-wise, but I'm not a coder so I wouldn't know. I don't see why they can't simply work on making a way to be contained inside the cab of the vehicle, and move with it, while still being considered on foot for certain things like shooting, bandaging, etc. etc. But I'm not a coder, so don't take anything I say as anything anywhere near accurate.

Vehicles are a dangerous asset, loud and big targets. Nothing you really need if you want to survive a long time :D Buddy found a bus and honked the horn, you could hear it and even the engine from afar.
-
Ive noticed the spawn rate for cars is pretty long and they only appear in specific spots. I think vehicles should randomly spawn along roads or in buildings because it would be a bit more realistic and make less car spawn camping snipers and bandits love it, also making them spawn realistically like no military vehicles in farms and no tractors in cities

Remove the radar from helicopters
Deviant (DayZ) replied to DJKhaled's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
ArmA 2 didn't have a radar like how there is in arrowhead. At least, not that I can remember. Removal of the radar is the most important thing. You can fly around the map, finding all vehicles in a matter of a few minutes this way. -
The pleasure boat dilemma
Deviant (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
You can modify vehicles to be able to "load in" other vehicles. Perhaps have the hilux able to carry the RHIB, and the Ural/ V3S able to carry the small boat? -
What do you do after you get some basic survival gear?
[email protected] replied to roundkickkid's topic in New Player Discussion
Don't listen to iSayNo. Just shooting everything that moves is a stupid idea in a zombie survival simulation. Try finding more lucrative loot or even some vehicles =] Be weary of other players and try to avoid confrontation with them. You could pursue a hunting knife then try to survive on the land =] -
I've been playing Day-z for around two months now, and I enjoy it immensely (just wanted to get that out of the way, this is not a complaint thread). Anywho, to the esteemed Rocket: I'm sure you are confident in where the mod is going, and I share that with you. In months, and perhaps later when Arma3 comes, it should be a great mod that will be fun to play for many years. But, at this stage of the mod, I must protest on the adding of new content until a larger problem is addressed; and that is: Hacking/Glitching/Cheat/Exploiting. This is an issue that has been seemingly ignored, perhaps arrogantly, by you; and your staff. But, a lot of the things being abused are within your power to control. Obviously there isn't much, outside of monitoring stats, you can do about people ACTUALLY aimbotting/spawning vehicles/etc; but you can fix a number of things: 1. ALT-F4/Logging out mid fight. Now, this is an issue that you said would "easily" be done away with, but it has not come. And WHY WHY WHY did you post about it on the announcement forum? When I ask where most people learned about the log-out exploit, they said "from rocket's post." In the future, please don't be so vocal about shit, will you? And for godsakes fix the fucking thing! 2. Invisibility. Now, personally I stumbled across how to consistently pull this off a few days ago and its pretty much game-breaking in every sense of the word. I've noticed quite a few people abusing this, and it can't really be stated enough how retarded this is. GAME-BREAKING. I prefer to have this shit dealt with rather than some fucking "bear-trap" piece of garbage that will probably be exploited anyway. 3. Switching Servers - There are some seriously amazing players out there that have just god given talent. You engage them in a fight, they logout; They login to a different server to setup their mega-flank on the building you are shooting them from; then logout once more - only to log back in your server hovering over your body. The funny thing is, I've caught a few of these retards in the act and joyfully shot their fucking heads off (also talked shit in direct to state my point on how they are a gutless faggish dumb cunt fucking bastard - anyways...) Please come up with some kind of reasonable mechanic to fix this (I have a few elegant solutions that would fix this and alt-f4ing, if your low on ideas). 4. Duping. Dear god please fix this before you implement bear-traps. Enough said, basically. 5. Legit Hacking - There are those unfortunate individuals who prefer to cheat the game to have fun (aimbotting, spawning vehicles, etc). With Day-z stat tracking I don't see why this couldn't be controlled rather easily. It's just going to take constant monitoring, which you may or may not have the manpower to do. If not, PM me; I'll lend a hand for free (if you felt compelled to pay me, I accept baked beans). 6. Misc - There are other things that I might not even know of. If your reading this post and know something I don't, please reply (And please don't describe HOW to do it, only what is happening kind of thing) 7. BTW - By the way. I can't really help track hackers unless I know the name of the person who just killed me. Triplesek was killed by Dumbass would be amazing. Make it mandatory on all servers. While there are important things that need to be fixed game-mechanic wise, I don't feel there is a more significant issue today than what is listed above. We don't need bear traps, we need anti-cheat. When the game is played the way it's meant, there really isn't any need for new shit. I mean sure, a fix here and there is good, but imo Dayz is amazing as is. Just get rid of all the exploits broski! PS - In the odd chance you read this, dear rocket sir, just want to say thanks. And also - There is no way to fix people killing each other. Don't give in to the carebears.

First off. I love this game. I haven't had this much fun in a multi player game for some time. I am really hoping the developers stand their ground and don't give in and go the "carebear" route. Awesome job, so far. I just started, and just had a few quick questions. Or if someone could link me to a thread that is similar, that would be great. As far as tents go. How long do they last once they are put in place? How do you target another person to use the medical drops? I read "pan away with mouse, then hold down middle mouse button, then pan over the player, and a list will come up." I've yet to get this to work. My second day playing(yesterday), I got lost and was just running through the woods for what seemed like forever. I came across what looked like a camp which had multiple vehicles. Mostly military style vehicles,a bus, and a few regular vehicles, helicopter. Also, what seemed like dozens of tents LOADED with various gear, items, etc. Are these giant player bases? Lol, I tried to relocate this camp, but to no avail. Thanks in advance! Love the game!

Over the last couple of days I've banned a number of players who have: - teleported - spawned vehicles - teleported to invalid locations - respawned and spawned items Just cause BE doesnt catch all cheats doesnt mean we dont see this kind of abuse in the database. Your bans are non-revokable on DB level. An additional ignoble award goes to players with racist names or acting maliciously (spamming or similar).

LU64 banning people for vehicle hoarding
mrsherenai replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'm having over 30 vehicles on my server O.o . Only 14 for you? Did you waste all of them? They should have respawned with last Database Cleanup. -
Rocket has vehicle spawns set up to where there can only be a set amount of vehicles on the server. There are X amount of UAVs that spawn, and if you can't find one at a spawn, that means it was likely taken already and is at someone's base. I like this mechanic because it makes owning a vehicle an accomplishment and driving it around more dangerous. The only thing I would change is to create an "Idle Timer" so if some douchebag takes a bus and drives way off the north side of the map, after 3 days it would respawn.

Multiple Characters Possible! Enter Non-HIVE Servers.
humbleuk replied to rinaun's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Tonnes of private servers now, they are infact miles better than "official". I've been playing a proper dedciated one just like you would pay to host one, single private database is way better, 50 players, no lag no desync, no ghosting in and out, people who are at the nw airfield and other loot hotspots earned the right to be there instead of hopping from one server to another, heli's work, some custom civilian vehicles, why bother with official at this point? Just like dayz used to be, playable. I think once some of the official hosts/people who buy servers cotton on to the private system, they will end up with similar setups, the current serve rules are alienating anyone who want to support this mod with official setups anyway. -
LU64 banning people for vehicle hoarding
Orphen (DayZ) replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
10 out of 14 vehicles on a server? Smells like a script to me. Any group running around searching the map with any kind of organisation would be lucky to find 4-5 of them. -
I guess. We had 2 vehicles for our grp and one of my grp saw the red lada and was like 'let's get it' but I told him no cos it's unfair to others. We don't need to prove with a carpark that we are good at a game. But I guess that's opinion vs. opinion. I wouldn't ban for it tho but I sure as hell would camp the carpark to kill the owners

LU64 banning people for vehicle hoarding
Gosha replied to [email protected]'s topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Let me also quickly add that, one of our member got banned for server hopping, which is abit too harsh of a punishment in this case, and were blamed for cheating acquiring these vehicles. please let me also say that as an admin you have a responsibility to behave accordingly and give reasonable punishment no matter what relationship between players and you, dont pick any side. Sincerely Gosha -
DayZ Xpadder 1.0 [Controller Support]
LieutenantDan replied to blackbelt27's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Obviously mouse and keyboard is the best way to go with infantry. Where i find the controller useful in arma2 is vehicles, especially helicopters or jets were an analog stick makes for much smoother flying. -
LU64 banning people for vehicle hoarding

Its still not a bannable offense. They (probably) got those vehicles fair and square. -
Who needs Helicrash
smellsliketeens replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Keep at least a mile away from your intended loot areas. If you plan on staying around the NW airbase or stary, go at least further than that. I suggest past petrovka, and I know of some players using the dam area because it is so remote. I know Skalka would be a great place for the NWAF. However, the best spots are those that only people with vehicles would bother going to(if you have a vehicle). Places so remote that people on foot would just not even bother. -
I know that this has been suggested before, but not in the way I envision it. When you choose one of the following survivor backgrounds, you do not get different items on spawn or anything. Instead, you receive little class specific buffs, abilities, and a corresponding armband to designate them as each class. All of the buffs are designed so that they would benefit a group more than an individual. By having these little buffs, it will encourage people to work together as opposed to shooting on sight. I will give explanations about each survivor ability at the bottom of this post. THESE ARE IDEAS TO BE IMPLEMENTED WHEN THE DESIGNERS SHIFT GAME ENGINES, NOT FOR THE DERPY ARMA II ENGINE. PLEASE JUDGE THESE IDEAS WITHOUT CONSIDERING THE DIFFICULTY WITH WHICH THEY WOULD BE IMPLEMENTED. Medical Background (Medic): Carries out medical treatments on other survivors twice as fast and can perform them while moving. Also gains the 'apply pressure' ability that will allow them to stop bleeding for as long as both survivors are not moving. (in case there are no bandages) Any survivors within 3m of the medic will regain 1 blood unit per second. DOES NOT APPLY TO SELF OR OTHER MEDICAL PERSONNEL. DOES NOT STACK. Military Background (Soldier): Gains ability 'Rally' which gives designated survivors +20% Accuracy with firearms when within 30m of Soldier. DOES NOT APPLY TO SELF, DOES NOT STACK. The survivor that chooses this Background will also gain a +5% Accuracy bonus. Gains ability 'Blood Brothers' to be used on another Soldier. When within 3m of each other, reload speed is doubled. CAN ONLY BE USED ON OTHER SOLDIERS AND IS 2-WAY. Engineering Background (Engineer): Can build kits twice as fast. (Tank traps, wire fencing, campfires, ect) Gains ability 'Tinker'. Tinker allows the engineer to make vehicles run 1.5x as efficiently (i.e. 200L of gas will make a car go as far as it would if it had 300L of gas.) Gains ability 'Blockade'. Blockade allows the Engineer to force a door to stay closed against mid level damage. Blockade would have a cooldown. Gains ability 'Overclock' Overclock allows the Engineer to mod flashlights to shine brighter, but will permanently burn out if left on for longer than 5 minutes straight. Athletic Background (Athlete): No negative effects from prolonged sprinting. Gains ability 'Carry'. Can pick up a wounded or unconscious survivor and run with them. Cannot shoot or use items while carrying. Gains ability 'Show Off'. When within 30m of a friendly survivor, Athletes do 50% bonus damage with melee weapons. Athletes will autovault over obstacles. Social Background (Socialite): Can see how many survivors someone has killed. Gains ability 'Disguise'. Can change the appearance of the armband so that they may trick other survivors or bandits into thinking that they are of another background. Gains ability 'Surrender'. Surrender waves a white flag and forces the user to disarm for 60 seconds. If hit by a zombie or survivor, the 60 second wait time is cleared. Gains ability 'Sabotage'. Sabotage allows the Socialite to make a gun jam, a car not start, or a grenade explode instantly when the pin is pulled. Socialites will see English subtitles beneath the Russian on the signs throughout the world. Hunter Background (Scout): Gains ability 'Track'. Track allows the scout to examine the ground for tracks. The traveled path of the trackee will glow for the Scout. Gets 50% extra meat from hunting animals. Crossbow bolts fired by the Scout will have a trail along its flight path allowing for an easier retrieval. Survivors within 5m of the Scout will have their noise levels reduced by one bar. Loner Background (Lone Wolf): Gains +1000 maximum blood. When within 30m of other survivors, accuracy goes down by 25%. Gains ability 'Adrenaline Rush'. Adrenaline Rush increases sprint speed by 25%, forces the player out of shock and allows them to WALK on a broken bone. Adrenaline rush lasts 20 seconds. For this duration, bleed rate is multiplied by 4. Adrenaline Rush can only be used once every 24 hours. Medic- Meant to be the most sought after member of a group. Disguising as a Medic is a bad idea since Disguise doesn't give the socialite the small healing aura. Soldier- Supposed to be a leader type. Blood brothers is a bond between two soldiers that will allow for a last stand next to each other with nonstop firing. Engineer- More of an independent background. Would be sought after if a small group had a vehicle. The Engineer's blockade ability would allow for a moment's rest when a group or individual dives into a small house to escape a ravenous horde. Athlete- The first line of defense, meant to do heavy lifting. Socialite- A bandit's best friend. They can swap out their armband to trick a group into accepting them. If a group already has a couple of medics and a Scout, one could disguise themselves as a Soldier so they could more effectively infiltrate their group. Surrender is meant so that a player could effectively declare I AM FRIENDLY to other players. Most of the shooting I've seen is due to everyone living in fear of being shot. This would allow a short cease fire so that a player could negotiate as opposed to open firing. Sabotage would be useful in group vs. group situations. A socialite could leave a bunch of sabotaged equipment out in the open for the enemy. The ability to read the Russian signs is meant to be an incentive for all groups to have a Socialite with them. Scout- Great for sneaking and chasing enemy bandits/survivors. Lone Wolf- For people who want to play the game solo. Adrenaline Rush is meant as a risky escape. Bleeding horribly and limping from a zombie horde could be better than laying their being eaten. The Lone Wolf would have an incentive to avoid large groups. The final goal with these classes is to reduce the amount of survivors killing each other. I want a bandit to aim his sights at a survivor, see that he is a medic, then threaten him into healing him. Better yet, I want people to keep an active look out for the other classes so that they can all benefit from each others' presence. PLEASE COMMENT WITH FEEDBACK OR OTHER BACKGROUND IDEAS!

vehicles are far more limited than everyone on dayz running around with multiple characters, muling is not the biggest issue though
