  1. What I mean by the private hive "cheating", for exmaple, is my friends. "Why play on a server that hands you vehicles easier, starts you out with weapons, where the admins can abuse their power!" so on and so forth. And, to begin with, Private hives were frowned upon. On the contrary, once again. The mod can be corrected by giving admins the tools they need to make the game a safer environment for the player. "You **** wads" is a remark based that there is a specific group of people like me. I don't intend to "hack ****" or "attack a company", I am simply extorting a game in a form that can be corrected based on actions done by people like me, or learn from our mistakes.
  2. If you use DayZ Commander, private hives are marked with a small X to left of the server name. Your characters on other servers have no effect here, and you will have to make one from scratch. Pros for private hives: 1. Admins have significantly more power. If you smell like a hacker, they can ban you without having to provide logs. 2. More/better loot and vehicles, if the admin has chosen to create it that way. 3. Side chat is usually enabled. 4. Sometimes you start with more gear. Cons for private hives: 1. Admins have significantly more power. If you smell like a hacker, they can ban you without having to provide logs. 2. More/better loot and vehicles, if the admin has chosen to create it that way. 3. Side chat is usually enabled. 4. Sometimes you start with more gear.
  3. If this is true then that is just so stupid. Admins of the servers should be able to do something about this and not have to wait 7 days to only go fix vehicles again and then poof their gone once again and this happens over and over. To me vehicles is what makes the game fun.. yes I don't believe in having a ton of them but I think respawning should be a bit faster and maybe even the spawn locations at different spots each time they are respawned. I am on a server now and vehicles disappeared a few days after they just got the server back up for like 2 weeks of down time. We lost all 3 we had and we went out looking for the ones we seen broken down the night before and nothing was found, 3 other vehicles that were there the night before vanished. I haven't seen a vehicle since for about 3 days now. If I have to keep fixing vehicles over and over and run from are camp all the way back to some good industrial spots for parts to fix another or the same one... well to me just not worth it and might as well just get rid of them all then. I just hate taking 3 hours or more to fix a vehicle to only have it vanish the next day by either hive mess ups or hackers.
  4. The hackers are there ruining your experience. Trust me. Ever heard of Navigator? It's a dayz map hack that require no bypass to use, its simply an .exe you run once you start the game. With it one gets a handy birds eye view of every player, vehicle, corpse, and tent in the game. Its been undetected for at least a month now. I assure you on any populated server SOMEONE is running it. Your tents aren't safe, your vehicles aren't safe. It doesn't take much to ruin a game of DayZ, the smart hackers aren't out there causing thunderdomes, no they're out there in the bushes, lieing low but slowly destroying any semblance of a survival game dayZ ever had.
  5. June 14th, 2011. I came up with my own version of the ideal free-roam, survival zombie game and made a lengthy thread about it on the Bungie.net off-topic forum. March 24th, 2012. I tried my hand at it again, trying to refine my ideas and taking in a lot of feedback from the first thread. While they are quite different in spirit, direction and scope to what DayZ turned out to be or even what is promised of the standalone, reading through them again I see a lot of ideas and points of references which can be translated to DayZ. Amazingly, I used Arma 2's engine as a reference point a whole lot through both threads. Often linking to youtube clips taken from the effective ancestors of DayZ; The pure-assets zombie scenarios of olde. If you want to give the original threads a read, go ahead: http://www.bungie.ne...postID=61600276 http://www.bungie.ne...postID=71047754 Maybe, my biggest dream was to get the hypothetical game to run over a highly complex procedural generator. Many people instinctively buck when they hear about using a procedural generation method in a videogame, myself included, but I never rejected the technology altogether. A lot of tech demos showed that it could be pushed a great bit. Too often, however, the application developed by private firms would only cover a tiny part of what is needed to create a world fully. Interestingly, I came up with a dynamic zombie spawn system back then though significantly different than my current suggestion for the standalone. Instead of having the spawn rates go down as players killed zombies, i had thought about raising the zombie spawn rates over time if survivors didn't move out of an area. Encouraging players to often move out of their comfort zone and preventing them from creating a static home-bases. Effectively making them nomad by necessity. I had also thought about making zombies much harder to kill. Unlike rocket, I thought (and still think) actual old-school undead were better suited as you could go around some biological laws (while maintaining a simulacrum of authenticity). For example, I would have loved if zombies were nigh-unstoppable, but not really fast. At least, not as fast as Rocket's Zs. Their speed being dictated by their state of decay and how damaged their bodies were, be it from randomly generated levels of from player input (i.e. break a zombie leg, they limp or crawl/blow their legs away, they would have been force to crawl using only their arms). Severing the head or damaging the brain would have been the only way to assuredly stop a zombie. "Animals....Hunt deer for meat, or avoid zombified dogs. Or see a few actual hawks flying high in the sky (yes for hunting, meh for zombie dogs)." Directly quoted from the first thread. I had forgotten about this actually. How queer, almost prophetical of me. "Players are almost one-bite kill (one bite and you are infected). An antidote must be administered within 10 hours or the player will turn after 24h.". Fiddling back then with the idea that zombies are to be feared as much as possible. Enticing players to avoid and sneak as much as possible. Also making a meta-game out of keeping infected players out of a group. to the point of executing another player because everyone else think he/she might be infected and they can't take the risk. "Inventory works on TWO values; WEIGHT and VOLUME. A character would only have a certain weight added in item to his own he could carry without slowing down. That would be a rather low value. I say slowing down because simply not being able to move at all is stupid. The speed loss in percentage would be a parabolic curve increasing the speed loss in % the more "overweight" a player is." The link is from the second thread, circa June 15th 2012. This is one of the few ideas that are totally salvageable and could be implemented. "Vehicles. From a skateboard to an 18-wheeler, provided it is in working condition and fuelled up. Since we're talking about an open-world game, vehicles are to be an important part of gameplay. Lest you wish to be stranded in the middle of a field, low on ammo and surrounded by zombies out for dinner. Of course, vehicles can be damaged. Either from simple long-term use to you-just-ran-over-dozens-of-zombies-your-car-is-done. Gas/fuel is also a factor. Gasoline could be siphoned from unused vehicles and transported about in jerricans. Also, vehicles can serve as material transport. Enabling you to move a great deal more stuff than you can carry on yourself." Not much more to add here. "Extensive equipment and gear to use. In this, I'm talking about guns of all sorts, medical supplies such as bandages and antibiotics, long-views, binoculars, maps, compass, GPS, flashlights, batteries (to power GPS/flashlights for example), night-vision goggles, melee weapons, tools, clothing (from a complete soldier suit to a g-string), watches, handheld radios, big marker pens (writing on walls?), jerrycans (see point three), explosives, backpacks (more capacity?), etc." Alright, now this is getting creepy. "Zombie Behavior/AI. In season 2 of The Walking Dead, we got to witness that the zombies are not totally devoid of primal instinct beside hunger. They like to keep together, somewhat and will often move as "packs" in a random direction. Zombie herds could prove to be the biggest threat there is, as ammo would run out before they do. I'm thinking that herds could be somewhat rare events. I'm also thinking about whether or not zombies should wail at the sight of survivor, attracting more zombies. Maybe another toggleable option." It's been discussed as is before, I'd like to point how good of an idea it was back then. "Say you killed a deer and you don't want to cut the meat out right there, can you tether it to a quad bike and drag it to somewhere safer? Hello Ragdoll physics!" "Can zombies be simply knocked out? A good baseball bat hit to the head would know them down for a few minutes but no kill them. You'd either need to keep on hitting them a bit or use a more lethal weapon to finish them." "Do zombies also go for the fauna? How do fauna react? Can they be caught off-guard and killed? How would a deer carcass, for example, affect zombies? Would it attract them?" "Predators, how common are they? Wolves, cougars, bears? Can you scare them off? Do bears "one-shot" you?" "Zombies can see and hear, but smell? This might be important in the process of sneaking. Get too close to a zombie and it'll eventually smell you. If you run from a zombie and hide behind something, he'll be looking for you and might lose you unless it gets too close and smell you out." "Weapon degradation. I'm thinking we should keep it out for firearms but in for melee weapons. It would just be obtuse for firearms but it could be useful to balance out close quarter combat. A metal pipe might take a few dozen hits but a wooden plank might break after four-five hits." "Talking about melee, what about butting with a pistol (pistol-whip) or giving a good hit with your rifle's cross? Should it damage the weapon? Have a chance of breaking?" "Fire; how does it work? Does it work like in Far Cry 2? Burns grass for a while before extinguishing itself or does it only burn up what gets set on fire directly? If a zombie is on fire, does it propagate to other zombies if they get too close? If a zombie catches fire, does it become heedless and just flail about or does it keeps on coming toward you? How long must a zombie be completely on fire before it dies? Ideally, it might work like in Alone In The Dark on a small scale." "What about unique infected? Infected modeled and using the voice of particular celebrities or fictional characters? Personally, I'd love a Justin Bieber zombie. How about a Michael Jackson zombie dressed like he was in his Thriller videoclip? An Austin Power zombie? A James Tiberius Kirk zombie? All with their own unique lines. Having fun tossing them around for an hour trying to hear them say everything they can. Let's see if we can get Obama to record a few lines" There's quite many more small ideas in the two original threads but these are the one that still sound the most right to me. A few others I didn't quote but I,ll probably bring them up in their own threads eventually.
  6. Welcome one welcome all, to the Mujahideen! The Mujahideen are a clan of predominantly Muslim DayZ players, specifically bandits. Non Muslims are welcome, but the clan is religious in founding, so keep that in mind. Overall, the clan is welcoming and friendly to all new or potential members, if you have any questions please PM me and I will answer them to the best of my ability. This is, by the way, my first time making a clan on just about any game, so please cut me some slack if this is a bit sloppy. In short, the Mujahideen seek to establish a stronghold and operate out of it, gathering vehicles, tents, supplies, and building barricades in the stronghold, wherever it may be. So yes, we will be settling down in one server, which is still to be decided. Once the stronghold is secured and set up all loot will be brought back to it and stored in any of the numerous tents, at which point and member of the clan may enter and take what he or she needs, this goes for vehicles as well. As for rules of the clan there are a few simple ones, starting with the obligatory 3 rules below. 1: Do not discriminate, in any way shape or form, against other members of the clan. 2: Do not insult ANY religious belief of ANY member, this also applies to the non-religious beliefs of atheists 3: Never kill another member of the clan for any reason, if you are killed by a fellow clan member and it is not an accident report it immediately and he will be kicked after an investigation. 4: Never kill unarmed players or players running along the coastline 5: Never endanger the lives of your fellow Mujahideen willingly. 6: Snipers are to hunt selectively in high traffic areas, specifically targeting heros first, survivors second, and other bandits third. If you are a sniper then it is your job to provide overwatch during raids as well, preferably with a partner 7: During raids the clan is to be orderly and efficient, like a well oiled machine. Leave no survivors alive if you encounter them (unless they are unarmed) and always be sure to keep the interests of the clan in need when looting, for instance, if we are running low on food, prioritize shopping malls and gather all of the food you can, then move on to military spawns for equipment. These are all of the rules, I hope to see applications to join very soon. Application Form Name: (Both your DayZ forum name and your real name, first name only.) Age: Religious affiliation: What role you would best be assigned to in the clan: (Sniper, Rifleman, Machine Gunner, etc.) How long you've played DayZ: How long you have been a bandit: (How long you've actively hunted other players.) Skill level in PvP combat: (Can you hold your own against multiple players or can you just take one at a time?) Can you use a sniper rifle effectively in DayZ: (Do you know the mil-dot system and/or the dragunov's ranging system?) Are you a good driver: (More than just can you navigate a road, can you get in and out of a city quickly to pick up fellow Mujahideen after a raid?) Your preferred weapon: If I sneeze, what do you say? Barakallah my friends, I look forward to seeing you soon.

    Community Dying? Too many hackers?

Have you noticed the 1.2 million people who play this game, and school time would not effect it that much? Yes, many people are quitting due to hackers, but not because the game is horrible, or that it's an alpha. Hacking isn't part of an alpha. Nothing surprises me more, name something and I've done it, many time. Shootouts? Boring. Helicopters? Buggy and boring. Vehicles? Buggy and boring. Meeting people and giving them everything I have just so I can start over? Done it so many times that it's boring (not everything, but my GPS and NVGs and such).
  8. Yeah, we had two admins on at the time, myself included. Guy was teleporting himself around to where people had vehicles and camps, ours included. He was also invincible. Not cool. The usual log checks were not helping this time. Nothing hinting at hacks in any of the logs except public variable... which is usually clean but for suddenly filled up to 1.8MB of garbage out of nowehere, making it impossible to differentiate legit data from hacks. Might even be the same guy, just server hopping on VIlayer Hive.

    Community Dying? Too many hackers?

Yea because Battlefield 3 doesn't have huge maps, destruction, or vehicles. It also has kill steak rewards and they didn't roll out a new engine.
  10. Very interested in this, we've rented a PUBLIC HIVE Server on vilayer this week, and no vehicle spawn so far should I be looking on the dayz wiki and daydb map for vehicles? regards
  11. lol sounds like you are having the same problem I had today with mine. Someone rolled in tele'd to me as soon as I logged into my server and killed me. A few minutes later another fellow logged into my server, tele'd all vehicles to him, tele'd all players to him, but 100m+ up in the sky and then he logs out while everyone falls to their death. damage done. I spoke to vilayer and they are not going to allow passwords for awhile. Instead I was told I should ban EVERYONE who I don't know when they log into my server to prevent these issues as a work around to the no passwording. Kind of funny in a sad sort of way. I had someone get on my server today with a few hacked items (itemRadio and a hacked gun in particular) in the .rpt read from the hive and yet they never showed anywhere in my logs with their guid so I have nothing to ban. If I had been able to catch them while they were still on the server I might have been able to get them with rcon, but.... w/o just outta luck. Hope you are now seeing why adminning gets frustrating even for those of us with the best of intentions. I left mine up until vilayer pulls it down. I requested a refund since they cant seem to be willing to admit they are creating the problematic environment that caused many ppl to leave the public hive. They said they would prorate me but they still haven't pulled the server down or gotten me that refund. Still waiting to see if they are going to suddenly change their tune. As long as they have all those servers hived together they are just public hive v2.0
  12. Vehicles and the gear stored within seem to be saving properly in 1.7.2.6 servers. Just make sure you save the vehicle before you log off.
  13. Sug4r_Fr33

    So about vehicle spawns.

At present (1.7.2.6) vehicles will pretty much never be at the spawn point. When a vehicle blows up currently, it will respawn in the same spot it blew up, with full parts and no fuel (sometimes they lose all of their wheels). Sometimes they just disappear after blowing up, and I dont know where they go. Also they will always spawn with no fuel after server restarts, so if u have one hidden, gotta keep a jerry can or you will have to go on a long walk to use it again.
  14. No way am I reading all 3 pages, but this thread treads too close to the Bandit vs Survivor gripes from the old days (2 months ago). That said, the OP is absolutely right, and so is BrandNew11980. There is nothing to do after a certain point. I can only move my vehicles so they aren't found so many times.
  15. and if there's more than 15 people on a server, guarantee there is a hacker teleporting to players and killing them. stealing your vehicles, or some way/shape/form destroying your experience.
  16. So yesterday I joined a random server, us 3032. I played for only a couple hours. During this time, I found a truck at solichniy quarry, went scavenging for parts around the east coast, fixed the truck 100%, parked in a secluded forest, and logged off. I did not meet anyone, loot any tents or vehicles, or possess any hacked items. This afternoon I log in to drive up to meet my buddy, and it says that I have been admin banned. What's going on? (and I was not using scripts or whatever, I never have.) oh by the way my IGN was KevinYOKI

    Experienced survivors (?)

For me skills would enhance the wanting to live longer.Right now living longer has no push for me and I think a few things might bump this for me.They have to be kinda realistic though. After a set amount of animals killed and gutted you get a hunting perk where the blur/dots on side of screen then become visible. These will help tremendously in finding animals in the woods.;)Could be considered like a woodsman skill and help with hunting but also noticing movement in the woods for any animal. ;) Next is stamina.I swear the devs changed something in 1.7.2.6 since my toon is huffing and puffing like crazy now.I like it but feel that when I walk to catch my breath its like the huffing goes away in a second or two.I think it would be better to have the toon have to walk off the exhaustion for say 60 seconds. Then after one day survival its 30 seconds and after 2 days its instant reduction of the huffing as it stands in game now. But,when huffing I feel the aim should be very erratic to make this gain in fitness a wanted thing that hurts to lose as its annoying to have to walk alot and also not be able to fire weapon as well.So you can still run forever but now you will be huffing and puffing like mad and if you get caught out in an ambush you have to wait a long time to get better aiming ability back.If your in great shape though its the way it is in game right now. Another area that could be a kool effect is when you start making the noises when in panic mode and zeds are nearby. These panic noises should aggro zombies when they are close enough to hear. This way after a set time like 2 days you panic less and so do not cry out like a little bitch and hence will start to believe that your a tough as nails stalker. Medical skill increase(every time you bandage it increases) could be that you then bandage always on first try.To compensate this harsh failure, any bandage attempt starts a slow clotting effect that eventually stops bleeding but you will still lose alot more blood than if you got it the first time around. And blood transfusions give full health every time compared to a chance of screwing up and not getting full health when not adept at it. Mechanical skill increase can have you repair vehicles faster than non skilledl. Hardened constitution could be that you get hungry/thirsty less often and if you go below set blood amount you get a much reduced hand shaking effect from the pain. This weapon shake from pain is not in Dayz but is in Arma2.Its something that Rocket took out of A2 and feel it adds greatly to the feeling of being wounded.Fights being fought when your swaying erratically is great for immersion and getting to the point where you feel less pain would cause real pain if your toon where to die. Back to the hunting and gutting,I think a good way to make it "feel" better is that the steaks you get from an animal have blood boosting stat that raises the more you gut animals. Not drastic but enough to feel a difference. So as skill progresses you find more and more steaks have full 800 blood bonus.Slight annoyance amount though...think like 2 steaks 600blood and the other 2 steaks at 800 etc.
  18. dagon (DayZ)

    What's your DayZ music?

I listen for the sounds of gunshots vehicles and footsteps and bush rustling
  19. treshold82

    do tents ''re appear'' cuz...

Like Cyanyde said - tents will reappear on next server restart. Do the search - upon server restart there might be glitch and tents & vehicles etc aren't loaded from HIVE... just wait for another server restart....
  20. Hmmm.... Someone found my heli & flew it off to the debug planes :/ I had to walk quite a far bit out to get it back :@ (We were already on the edge of map so i just followed the direction he flew in.) Don't Vehicles despawn on the debugging planes!? Damn idiot.
  21. killswitch^1shot

Is there a way to permanently destroy tents?

Then the tents are scripted into the server files either by the admin or you having them there for a period of time saved. Tents that aren't scripted can and will be destroyed using explosives, or vehicles.
  22. Don't get me wrong guys, I'm not advocating for side chat or nametags, though I do enjoy side-chat (breaks the monotony of running for miles hearing just the sounds of my footsteps), and I think name-tags would be useful if they weren't so "overpowered" when it comes to PVP (though they are a useful IFF mechanic during combat). What I'm saying is that there should be tools to replace them and make the game more realistic in the fact that, during a zombie-apocalypse, people will naturally band together. Loners would be the exception. Yesterday I was alone and found a car. Decided to use side-chat to get help. Started with one guy, then another and then another. It was extremely tense because we were all waiting for the others to shoot us in the back, but in the end the group started trusting each other and we managed to fix a two Urals and a Chopper. We had some awesome fire-fights around crashed helicopters and at the NWAF (even losing a Ural at a point, but recovering it after) and got even more loot and vehicles (pick-up and motorcyle). This was all possible because I could communicate with people and get a group going through trust and common objectives. The game doesn't facilitate this, and that's where I think it fails. PD: I resent your comment Kryvian, you are entitled to your own opinion of course, but I think it should be possible to you to voice it in a more mature way. Am I to believe you are an immature person? Or am I to understand that perhaps this forum is not the best tool to actually get to know people and perhaps there's more to you than what that simple message you posted seems to give away? This is the same thing that happens in DayZ, people just think others to be CoD kiddies, trolls or simple-minded murderers. The truth is, the world is not THAT full of them, we just don't have the tools to tell them appart from the regular people, who have all been forced to similar behaviours because the game shapes your actions that way. This is where I think the Devs have failed so far, and that's my opinion.

    [The Cure]: An Introduction

I want to help people too, but I need gear. I want to start something like the "Trusted Medics". I would call it the "Chernarus Coast Gaurd", which would basically patrol the coasts looking for survivors in need of assistance and gear, cleaning up bandits, and patrolling towns and of course; giving medical attention. Anyone in on that? You'd have to start completely from scratch considering I have no vehicles. Though I do have pretty good gear except in weapons and ammo. Any endorsements (in beans), support, or application?
  24. flatten them with frags/vehicles.
  25. I'm all for new players, but playing Insurgency, you see alot of new and unskilled players flocking around the vehicles and rather than contributing to the succes of the mission, they seem to do everything they can to slow everyone else down. Trying playing at night, when shitty pilots crashest several aircraft in the AO, their burning wrecks rendering NVGs completely useless. Trying to locate enemy shooter with a dual rotored damn Chinook hovering 2-30 meters above you. Let's not forget about all the friendly fire from vehicle mounted grenadelaunchers, bombs, mortars and rockets. I'm not saying I agree with the abusive admin in OP's post, I'm just suggesting some players could try a little harder not killing off their own teammates.
