    Exp Update 0.62.139977

Every new build is just like Christmas morning, all over again!

Truth be told, you won't be the first ...

It's worse just after dusk and just before dawn, because you can see the night time "dome" lowering and raising in the sky. It's ... unfortunate.

I think that you should complain!

Blood has nothing to do with bleeding. Think of it as health, or life force.

No, but it looks so 1980's. Say, where's that Tseng Labs CGA ISA card I had lying around here ...

It's one of my pet peeves. I complained about it a couple years back, but few others seem to be concerned. I was hopeful that it would get addressed, when True Sky was introduced, but no such luck. I expect that we'll just have to live with it, unless more folks start making a fuss.

I mostly agree and I think that on balance, the sounds are a significant improvement over what we had, but I also think that: a) The transitions between the different geographic areas are too abrupt, b) The volume levels of the various noises could use some balancing, c) The "loop" is too short and it sounds too repetitive, d) In a perfect world, "outdoor" sounds should be muted when indoors, e) Additional sounds, as randomized as possible, would help to offset the sensation that we are listening to s 30 second loop. We've also had issues with vehicle sounds since we've had vehicles. Perhaps some of the refinement that we desire has to wait until some new technology is introduced in 0.63?

A batch file is nothing more than a text file with a .bat suffix. A batch file can contain any legal commands that you can enter into the command interpreter. So, the first thing to do is to open an instance of the command interpreter (AKA a DOS prompt) and figure out how to execute your environment variable preferences for sound and etc. Once you figure that out, you'll need to open Steam and figure out the command to launch the game. Once you know all of the appropriate commands, you can string them together in a batch file. Any decent DOS book will give you primer on batch files (am I dating myself?), but there must also be an archive somewhere on the Internet, eh? EDIT: There are all sorts of vids on the YouTube about batch files. This will get you started.

I thought that was the entire purpose of Reddit. Strangely, though, even Reddit isn't as toxic as usual, ever since 0.62 hit. It's literally been days since I've seen a, "Dean took the money and ran ..." post over there. They're REALLY slacking off! What is the gaming world coming to???

    Exp Update 0.62.139748

The devs have been consistent in representing 0.62 as strictly an A/V update. In that respect, the current build is a dramatic improvement. The bulk of the team are currently working on 0.63, which will be the first beta build. It is not until 0.63, that we will finally see the inclusion of the new character controller and many other new mechanics and technologies which are interdependent upon the new controller. In other words, 0.62 still relies on a lot of the legacy software, which we have rightly criticized over the past few years and which will finally be abandoned at the conclusion of the 0.62 series of builds. So, until we see 0.63 hit the servers and we finally get our hands on the new tech, I would say that it is impossible to judge what progress the dev team have made behind the scenes. Most games start with a game engine, which is complete and ready to rock. DayZ started with an engine which was incapable of providing the features which were required. Therefore, an entirely new engine has been developed in parallel. You could say that the dev team have been working on two entirely different games at once; a legacy game, which has served as a proving ground for the introduction and testing of new concepts and the "actual" game, which we will not see until 0.63. Estimating how long it will take to complete the legacy game completely misses the point, because the legacy game will NEVER be completed. It is 0.63 and its progeny which will evolve into the completed game.

    Exp Update 0.62.139507

Yes, I initially began on the Australian server, but I switched to others early on. It got dark, just after I spawned as a freshie and I was having trouble finding food & water and figuring out where I was. Hey, there's no more glow in the dark wallpaper inside the houses, so it gets pretty dark at night! So I hopped onto several different US, UK and IR servers, where I had some daylight and dramatically better pings. Frankly, I was surprised at just how consistent the fps was. As I recollect, I was initially seeing an average of 17fps while on the Australian server, but after restarting the game and rebooting the PC, I had a stable 22fps no matter what server I was on, with surprisingly little variation. This was true whether my ping was 50, or 250. Now, some servers gave me a smooth 22fps (if there is such a thing) and some servers gave me a slide show at 22fps and some just couldn't make their mind up and repeatedly transitioned back and forth. I would say that the slide show scenario was more likely with higher pings, but I also suffered from it on my local servers as well, so I suspect that server load had at least as much, if not more more of an influence, than server ping alone. Between playing and then later, my diagnostic efforts, I was easily on eight to ten different servers over the course of the night. Sorry I missed you guys last night. The more I tried to rush, it seemed like the slower I went.

Yes, lots of texture pop and sometimes it doesn't pop, even when you're standing right next to the object.

Well, if it happens again, I know where to start looking. It it makes a habit of this, I'll certainly write protect it. I had never experienced this before, but now that you mention it, wasn't this a thing back around 0.45? It seems to me that I remember talk of having to write protect the config file back then.

Affirmative, I had to reset my video settings on Thursday night, before playing 0.62. And, as I mentioned, I was getting great fps then. The mystery is how the .cfg file got changed between Thursday night and last night. I literally shut that machine down and I hadn't used it the past couple of days, until last night. Perhaps we should have a straw pole? Likely causes for a scrambled .cfg file: a) Sunspots b) Microsoft c) H1Z1 conspiracy d) Dark Energy e) ???
