Non-Shitty class idea for the Standalone

Recommended Posts

Something new I think should be implemented in the standalone is classes. Classes would have no effect on skills or late game play, just on starting gear and player skin. They would be based on professions before the outbreak, and the fresh spawned characters would be holding gear, typical of that profession.

Policeman (think walking dead)

Skin:

Gear

+a pistol and a few clips of ammo

-no medical supplies

+flares

+soda

-no food

-no backpack

Doctor

Skin:

Gear

-no weapon

+lots of medical supplies (blood bags, bandages, morphine epi-pen)

+beans

+soda

+shitty backpack

Businessman (my favorite)

Skin:

Gear:

-no weapon

+few medical supplies (again, maybe one bandage)

+beans

+soda

+GOLD ROLEX (functionally no different from the watch, but it would be a cool flashy item to obtain)

+moderately sized backpack (from all those camping trips with the kids before the outbreak)

Mechanic

Skin:

Gear:

+crowbar (Gordon Freeman in da house)

+few medical supplies (probably only one bandage)

+beans

+soda

+vehicle parts (maybe one scrap and an engine part)

+toolbox

+shitty backpack

I think these seem pretty balanced. Does anybody else have ideas for classes in this format?

Only thing that bothers me about this is, some people aren't going to accept whatever pre-apocalypse profession they're spawned as. Many will just respawn until they get what they want.

Although I do like the idea, I don't think it will work out unless you fix the previous stated problem.

The only fail-proof way is allowing players to create their characters. (Hair, facial features, clothes, etc etc, you can include civilian clothes as well as clothes related to professions but no military and camo type stuff) From here, allow people to pick from pre-grouped starting gear. At worst, there's one set of gear that people prefer and mostly get and then it would be like it is now, everyone getting the same thing at spawn. From your spawn you end up building your own class by loot you pick up and hopefully the passive background skills that Rocket talked about.

I'd love to randomize what everyone gets but the thing is people won't be good sports about it. They just kill themselves and try their luck again.

I am not saying it should be random, I think people should choose which skin/gear set they start with. Maybe instead of a male/female button it could have a 4-5 option class button. I like the idea of spawning as a doctor, and then teaming up with a friend who spawned as a cop. If the skins all had similar camouflage, then none of these would be that much more desirable than the rest anyway.

I would love to see a customization system more in depth than this, but something like this could be an absolute minimum.

it would be hilarious to see bandits killing freshly spawned businessmen just for their shiny gold watches and beans

Personally, I would like to see randomized spawn inventories before class-based implementation. Any variation is welcome at this point. Class-oriented new survivors would just encourage players taking the most well-armed class and killing any businessmen, doctors, or mechanics they come across.

This would never work, coast will become meatgrinder again when you can have fun killing freshpawn and get their USEFULL gear. Sorry, but I think this is shitty idea.

Only class/skill system I see fit is something that can be "learned" no item based shit, just something like from fallout. That is open for EVERYONE.. This would make lives themselves more valueable, not the items.

Other idea that is remotely like OPs suggestion is that random inventory at spawn, few items that can spawn with you. No one coudnt know what items are you possisessing, but then again it could be bandit lottery... and that just fun.

Nope. Classes ? i hope they are never implemented and have a good feel they never will be. I would think Rocket would walk away if his hand was forced into something like the above.

I dislike this for multiple reasons.

You don`t know what you are going to be carrying when you get attacked by zombies.

Asthetic player customization (Such as lootable skins.) are things I believe Rocket is already working towards.

Something so hard set as a class based system seems too game(y?)(ish?), and not befitting a system so open, in my opinion.

Please, no starting with weapons.

I dont think this will ever happen. The clothing perhaps may be wearable but never the starting gear.

classes are a terrible idea, honestly you just washed up on the beach you shouldnt have anything at all, and as far as skins go just let us choose what we want to look like

no, it wouldnt work you could argue that one class is over powered from the start than the rest which could be argued as an unfair advantage.

Every one starts with sod all, every one is the same, untill some one findsa a gun and kills every one else.

I already know what would start happening...Everyone would respawn until they became the cop. And proceed to shoot everyone they see...And the legit players who try to play with the first character they get would be shot down by the douche bag cops.

I'd rather spawn with absolutely nothing on the coast with no class system.

There's already a class system in DayZ,

Policeman

- gear up with decent equipment then roam cherno and kill bandits.

Doctor

- get supplies from hospital roam around the map yelling "Anybody need assistance? I'm a doctor!"

Soldier

- get military tier stuff

Sniper

- get a ghillie and a scoped rifle.

and bunch of other classes like, Spotters, Demo-man, Bus Drivers, Bean Horder and etc.

This game has the best advanced class system that you really have to play the part to become one.

I love your post. The perfect explanation. Play any way you want without being forced to play a certain way. Beans, good sir.

Nah... if anything, players should get the same starter gear and skin choices, but have certain skills that make them unique.

Only problem in this game is that everyone can do anything... that gives zero value for individual life, that why something for skill systems should be introduced that is open for everyone equally.
