robertstuartmarshall 1 Posted May 6, 2012 Well, the reason I am suggesting this here is purely because so far in just 3 short sessions I have enjoyed this mod for Arma II more than any other AAA release in the last year or so and I really want it to carry on and get bigger.I am not wanting special outfits or credits in the game for donaters, just a chance to donate some cash to help you guys get more servers, more dev time etc etc ... as so far this mod has totally blown me away. The community have been amazingly helpful from minute 1 for me - Stuart is my in game name - and every question, no matter how newbish, I have asked has been answered both promptly and politely, even by one guy who was talking gibberish for a laugh stopped to answer a serious question I put up.The only thing I do not want to see is a mass influx of gankers and trolls just joining to bandit up and pk everyone, but that is really impossible to control anyway and over time they end up leaving for the next big thing anyway. So if you guys would give a Paypal account or similar I would more than happily donate some cash to this mod to help it along. Cheers for the awesome fun :)
rocket 16567 Posted May 6, 2012 Appreciate your thoughts. For the record. Let it be known that I think PayPal is the biggest piece of shit that has ever appeared on the face of the earth. If the project became more than a mod, it would need to be based on a sensible payment structure that people like. And it would need to be developed in such a way that it doesn't get fucked over by marketing graduates and lawyers.Until then, what am I going to do with your money? There is only so much pepsi and pringles a man can eat :)
nighthawk7000 4 Posted May 6, 2012 As rocket said, yea they have to move the project a bit further...however I think kickstarter is an excellent idea. Big bucks there, especially since you already have a pretty damn good proof of concept at the moment.
oktyabr 53 Posted May 6, 2012 Heh, how novel would that be, a *working* proof of concept that already has thousands of players and servers, BEFORE going kickstarter? Maybe it would set a precedent.
Astral (DayZ) 2 Posted May 6, 2012 That's a crazy thought. Might kill the huge number of "will design concept art for six figures" thing that has been going on lately.
oktyabr 53 Posted May 6, 2012 That's a crazy thought. Might kill the huge number of "will design concept art for six figures" thing that has been going on lately.Exactly what I was thinking. Might actually save Kickstarter to have an example of how it *should* be done... not just post a few sketches with MS Paint and a vague concept. Raise the bar a little, so to speak. robertstuartmarshall 1 Posted May 6, 2012 Well, the way I had in mind was for you guys to put up a Kickstarter for a ridiculously low amount, say $10 or something daft like that, saying you need Doritos and Lucozade NOW!I get you are saying you don't need the cash, but a small donation from me could be seen as the equivalent to me buying you and your fellow modders a pint if we were down the pub which is what I would do if we met anyway, so just throwing that out there.Sorry, was way busy earlier, but here is a great picture I made for you to use on your Kickstarter campaign:
robertstuartmarshall 1 Posted May 7, 2012 Out of curiosity, how many actual servers are there? Because even showing all full servers, I only ever see a max of 4.
Quixotic 26 Posted May 7, 2012 That sounds like a bug sturob or you aren't searching correctly. IIRC there are somewhere around the number of 20(?) servers, most of which are constantly full.

LordFrost 3 Posted May 7, 2012 Appreciate your thoughts. For the record. Let it be known that I think PayPal is the biggest piece of shit that has ever appeared on the face of the earth. You're not seeing the full spectrum of it.Without going into too much detail, I'm a working man with a day job and disposable income.Past mistakes however, have made it literally impossible for me to receive a credit card from the German bank system. I'm serious, too. A prepaid CC is the best I can do.PayPal allows me to contribute to web materials without a card, which I otherwise could not.

dallas 5195 Posted May 7, 2012 Content with dry, old pringles and lukewarm pepsi?!If the gaming industry can't bribe Rocket to implement COD-style health regeneration, auto-aim and cover mechanics by offering him a nice corner office, a personal assistant and buy him some nice pc-reviews, how are we going to appeal to the 7-13 year olds, the house wifes and the hipsters?Atleast tell us you're considering a smartphone and facebook version!
LordFrost 3 Posted May 7, 2012 And we better be forced to "like" you on facebook or pay attention to your sodding twitter every time we want vital information about the project's progress, too. It's the in thing to do.

robertstuartmarshall 1 Posted May 7, 2012 Yeah, I am currently looking into Carrier Command as I remember a friend of mine had and loved the old Amiga version - if it's the same game updated.Ok, about the servers. I am not seeing anywhere near that amount, no way. I have the boxed Arma II and a Sprocket download of OA. I have the Day Z mod latest version - as of last night's update - and all my games are patched to the latest version. I see max 4 Day Z servers even with Show Full Servers left on.I have touched no part of the server filter, etc .. I just load the game through the Spirited Machine launcher after selecting Arma - CO and go straight to multiplayer. BAM 4 servers (I added the BAM for dramatic server effect).
