Make a Level without a map

Recommended Posts

So there's been some new maps come out, none very good or atmospheric but still, they tried. Now what would make a really great map, is having a playing area that hasn't got an online reference map or an in-game map, just compass, stars, shadows, skills. Why we even needed a map with chernarus was beyond me when every village is 2 miles from each other. Even the road signs should be bent a bit or knocked over needing foliage removing to read. So go on Rocket, buck the trend, make it epic.

I don't know why you are mentioning Rocket, he didn't make the maps to begin with. Any level that is designed will quickly be mapped out by players and uploaded, and the devs can do nothing about it.

They could, however, make randomized buildings, spawn points, loot tables, etc so that the maps would be less accurate.

Someone will always produce an online map eventually.

It is up to the player to decide whether to use it or not.

One of my favorite aspects of the game is using the in game references (Buildings, terrain, lakes) to find my position on a map (I got crafty [read: geeky] and printed out a large scale PDF of Chernarus) and navigate using those in game references.

Yeah and when someone makes a homemade online map, they should release another Level without a map to counter it. Random loot and spawns sounds great Angel, I don't like the linear feeling of going Balota for a gun, then Cherno apartments for gear before i move out somewhere.

takes a lot less time to make a map of a place, than it does to make the place.

thus your idea is inherently flawed.

randomising maps would (apart from taking a fucking age) make the base building element impossible.

I quit reading when I read not very atmospheric. Dumbass post imo.

Damn...Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. All your post today are about the same. I would like to say "Took the words from my mouth" though. ;)

Making a map is difficult, making a huge map and keeping it interesting throughout is even more difficult. That's a lot of content released if they were to keep the maps uncharted.. Look at how long 4 maps the size of a cardboard box take to be released for DLC . 2-4 months..

hello there

As others have said, "level" making is not a quick and simple project. None of these maps are new, they are only new to DAYZ.

Once an environment is released people will make maps of it, there is nothing to do to counter it. These environments can take months of hard work to produce and Lingor for example is still being tweaked.

What could be done, however, is to simplify the pipeline for the addition on new maps to DAYZ so that the many other user made environs could be used.

I agree. While I like the idea of random areas/maps or instances, in a game like this it would take all of the fun out of fortifying areas and building bases and it would break down some of the continuity of the environment. Instances maybe, dungeons of a type that could be separate, randomly generated interiors of large building like apartment complexes or business towers, Shopping malls.. Something like that, but not on the main map..
