Why is the M14 so overlooked?

It really is an overlooked and underrated gun. It does 8K damage, which will half of the time knock someone out straight away, if you hit the right spot.

You can fire it as fast as you want. Use it for zombies, too; the ammo is beyond easy to find. An absolutely spectacular weapon--which is now my favourite weapon-- that shouldn't be chucked away.

Why prefer the FN FAL over that? I know there is a range difference, but the fire rate is faster, ammo is far easier to find and the sight is better.

The M14 is almost a semi-automatic assault rifle, except better.

Now then, what's another gun that you guys think is completely underrated and overlooked?

It's my unlucky gun, every time I find one I get killed not long after. Your right though, it's a powerful weapon and I prefer the scope to that of a sniper rifle.

Yeah it's the perfect balance of CQB rifle, assault rifle and sniper rifle.

took my answer. i've been carrying around the M14 for a while. love the mix of traditional bolt-action rifle look, with high tech looking CCO and magazine. the ammo synergy with the DMR and M24 consolidates inventory space. the dot sight and lower recoil make it better than the FAL easily. M4 CCO may be able to load SD rounds but i still wouldn't risk making that much noise that players can hear to kill zombies and would use an M9 SD instead. i prefer a rifle purely for pvp.

It's not that loud, actually, in comparison to some other guns. Of course, a stanag using gun or something else quieter is a better zombie eradicator, but this is still good.

the M14 is my favorite weapon over anything. I took out so many players with it and it's nearly a 1 shot kill within close range and 1 shot to KO/break a leg midrange. I would rather have that gun over anything. I usually carry that gun with a sniper (if i find one for long range assaults). Mags is easy to come by it since most places have DMR mags. I like the fact that it's a round scope instead of the square ones because i'm use to seeing targets with a round scope instead of the square ones with red dots in the middle. Not to mention when I shoot someone 300-400meters it doesn't take my whole clip to finally kill them just a few shots to drop them.

This is actually true in normal ArmAII as well. Many people ignore the M14 in favor of the plethora of other weapons available. But I've always liked it, for the same reasons already stated I guess.

I've always preferred semi-automatic over fully automatic for some reason.

Not very loud? ITS A FUCKING DINNER BELL! One of my mates loves the gun, I dunno how many times we've been caught in situations where the Zombies are piled practically waist high and have to be waded through by the time they stop comming after that things been fired a couple of times - you can actually see the Zombies running over the hills in the distance from miles away shortly after its fired. I actually watched a guy up in NWAF yesterday called Player_1 disconnect cause he'd aggroed so many Z's from firing it..so I shot him in the head when he joined back in again.. thanks for all the tasty gear Player_1..

It's definitely one of my favorites for PvP. I like the AKM sights a little better though for farther distances. The red dot on the M14 just gets in the way for targets 300+ meters to me.

I've never found the M14 anywhere aside from Heli Crashes. I don't know if they only spawn there or possibly in the barracks as well.

According to the wiki it spawns in general military, barracks and heli crashes. I have only ever found one though, and that was in my first week of playing so I aggroed all the zeds at NWAF with it and got killed. Haven't seen one since, but after reading this thread I really want one. Trade anyone? I have SVD mags... Sweet sweet SVD mags. M240 ammo too.

i love that gun too only cos its the gun u see all in all the vietnam war movies they have that gun (i hope thats the gun were talking about lol) the one thats used alot in counterstrike probably the best gun in CS

I would not say it's overlooked but rather not so easy to find. Got my only one so far and that was from bandit.

Btw I would like if M14 in DayZ was of the modern breed, something like DMR but just with AIM sights.

edit: I would like to use normal MP5 but since it got that uber nerf, it's useless. I really hope Rocket will tune up the damage of those nerfed rifles and pistols. Having to riddle guy's chest with 10x 9mm bullets to kill him is just ludicrous.
