One character name ~ DayZ standalone

Recommended Posts

So this is somewhat of a suggestion, and somewhat of a question too. Will the standalone version of DayZ have it so we pick one name, (our user name) and stick with it? I just think this would help catch hackers/scripters, since when caught and posted in the forums, players would know who to ban + look out for. I couldn't see it being a bad thing, but if it is in any way just let me know why. Is having the ability to change/have a bunch of player names a good thing really? I could see maybe with the ability to have more then one character, but actually have it so it's a different character with different gear and whatnot.

Thanks for your time!

Seems obvious to me - though i suppose you'd have to be careful in regards spelling mistakes.

I'd hate to be known as that Sesame St thug, DemonGrover.

Haha, yeah.

A lot of things make it so you only have one name though, so really if you're not used to spelling it out by now, than I guess you'd just have to create a new account with a different email. :P

Every player has a unique playerID and their past character names are recorded, I believe. Also, think of the flip side. The ability to change your character's name has helped with streamers not wanting to be found easily.

Personally, I don't think you should be forced to use the same name for each new character. Quite honestly, when the respawn screen gets a little more "character customization" options, I'd like to see a first name / last name as one of the customization options :)

I fully understand, and I would love to have the ability as long as they made it easier to find the one main username. Maybe just make it so server Admins can see every players main user name, and than the players that change their names can keep doing so, but it would help catch the hackers. There should be a way to have both. =]

I'm only partially okay with this.

Being able to switch name (many of us look back in shame at our early usernames) while still being able to be tracked would be ideal.

For example, having an account name (or ID) and a player name (visible IG).

On lobby, you could see both the ID and IG name while only the player's name would be visible in game.

In case of dubious behaviour, the ID would be the thing to hand over to the authorities for a case to be built.

Along with that, maybe have it so users keep a history of the names they used, visible and accessible by anyone.

To limit exploitative players, implementing a limited number of player rename over a set period of time, say once a week.

i dont like the idea of 1 name being able to be posted on a forum and people just auto ban you when you come in. I mean even if you are mediocre at a game, your going to eventually just destroy some people in that game and they will definitely call you a hacker till the end of your days and post you where ever they can without proof and the worst part is.. people will believe them because they are tired of hackers.

I agree with this. It lets players know who to trust and distrust and we can build a better gaming community when people aren't hiding behind ten different aliases.
