There is actually people with morals in this game.

Recommended Posts

I used to be a bandit until I realized I had no squad to play with, no friends, I was a loner pretty much. So I started to be nicer and say friendly have some trades and move on, or do a couple of Cherno/Elektro loots. Then for almost a week straight i was shot on site. I lost faith in the game and didn't play for a bit, I started playing again and I played as a nice person, saying friendly and doing trades, then i got sniped in Komarovo and I disconnected. I reconnected and was passed out, a man in a ghillie suit gave me an epi-pen and a blood transfusion, he asked if i was okay, dropped me some food and painkillers, then said "I am Russian, sorry for my badly English." He then dropped a M4A1 CCO SD and walked off into the trees and disconnected. Thank you Grey-Wolf, you've given me back hope into this game that there is still people with morals and people who help fellow survivors out in a time of need. I salute you.

Beautiful.

That guy is a lot nicer than the lot I've run into.

I remember my buddy and I were in Msta, and we accidentally aggro'd the whole town. Ran to the barn outside of town, and we start hearing shots from a big gun (Turned out to be M14 AIM). We scream friendly as we run into the barn, and he takes out most of the zombies for us. He comes in the barn and asks if we're all good, and since he helped us out, we figured we could give him some medical supplies as thanks. As my buddy is giving him some morphine, the dude shoots him in the face. I dive behind some hay, and start shooting as soon as I saw him poke his head out. Bam. Bandit kill.

That right there ruined my expectations of finding friendlies. You have a better heart than I, because I've started shooting on sight if they're too close.

10+ weeks play time, 1 bandit kill, 0 murders, 4280 humanity.

When I first bought DayZ I promised myself I'd always try and play the game as I think I would behave in real life, not for some morally high-horse reason but just because I thought it would be the most immersive way for me to approach the game.

My clan was planning on executing someone we picked up in a truck, turn's out he sat in the truck for about 45min's while we did our own little thing without doing anything wrong, then alot of them was having second thoughts however me and one other was adamant on killing him.

We came to an agreement that we would give him a Lee Enfield and send him on his way, unfortunately he got shot in the face with a sniper rifle.

on a un-related note, When will Amazon deliver my fucking parcel? it's 10AM.

By the way. I've never been killed on a russian server.

Went out to some european server for some diversity. Piles of corpses all over around.

No, thanks. Went back.

I'm a bandit [=/= murderer] and I regularly hold players up to rob them/trade [although when I trade I am always of the higher status in the manner of firepower positioning].

I only kill players when in a firefight or one doesn't do what I tell them to.

You disobey, and you die. It's kind of simple.

Yesterday I shot a man in the back, he was unarmed. Felt bad so I run to him, bandaged him, did blood transfusion and gave him painkillers. I said "sorry" he said "ok, cheers" and went on his way. Also I covered him, when he aggro'ed some zombies.

I shot him because I wanted to get some loot, but felt bad, as he was unarmed and it wasn't really fair fight.

He died couple of minutes later, in Cherno, I'm pretty sure someone else sniped him.

I always wonder what guys think when we have spotted them in the distance being chased by Zeds and we have shot a few off their back. Do they think we were trying to shoot them and end up staying in cover for ages scared we are just waiting for them to bo peep out ? Or do they just think..wow..that was cool.

Because of the guys i have met that have helped me and other randoms i have looted places with or shared food , guns and medical items i always have a stupid faith that when we see someone that i always think 'maybe this guy is cool too'. More often than not we do not end up shot so it seems there is still enough good guys around that make the game what it is.

I play hero, I'm about 8000 humanity at the moment but can't be exact because the counter resets after a fraction of a second.

7 weeks, 1 murder, 1 bandit kill. The bandit kill was picked up last night...

... I had been KoS more times than I care to remember and I was starting to think it wasn't worth the grief trusting other players anymore.

Camping on the hill just north of Balota, I was ready to drop my hero skin, track somebody out of the airfield, shoot and loot them somewhere safe. Indiscriminate payback

Then a message appears, "server restart in 10 minutes". I haven't been by an airfield before when this has happened, naturally I keep my eyes on the airfield and wait the time out.

Server restarts and I leg it into the control tower as fast as I can. I'm armed with an MP5 and not feeling particularly threatening.

A female skinned survivor, armed with a hatchet, spawns in the tower whilst I'm going downstairs, we exchange friendlies and I continue looting.

Next thing I know I'm axed in the back (far too common an occurrence). Luckily don't KO and unload all 30 shots into her (his) face. Bandit kill. I'm made up, but at the same time I'm almost having a heart attack. I'm on 3000 blood and in an incurable state of shock.

Seconds later another survivor enters the tower and tells me not to shoot. I can't take this stress and want to take him down as well. But he's unarmed, I can't do it. I take care of his Zeds and drop him a blood pack for myself. He patches me up and then I tell him this long winded story you're reading right now.

So far, this has all taken place before i can even get to the ground level of the tower. He beats me to the bottom and picks up an AK and it's pointing right at me. Shit. He has no ammo and tells me he wouldn't shoot me if he did. Thank god.

This is all getting to claustrophobic for me now, I don't even tell him I'm leaving, sprint out of the hangar (it was tank trapped off so I had to fuck about with the ladder) and quickly loot the hangars. I find a Kobra, drop my MP5 (keep the mags) and think fuck it, I need to sleep IRL and can't do it with all this adrenaline in my system and when I'm out of ciggies. I run back to my hill, drop the MP5 mags and log out for the night.

In hindsight:

I wish I could have at least asked this survivor his name, gave him beans, pepsi and some morphine to help him on his way, but my faith in the DayZ community is that ravaged I couldn't even bear the sight of the person who arguably might have just saved my life.

In conclusion:

This was a 1 in 50 encounter for me, meeting a genuine friendly.

I'm still going to play less friendly in future. You look at me with that hatchet and, from now on I swear, I'll shoot you in the face. If you're unarmed, we're still cool, how can I help?

TLDR:

Faith not completely restored / Never trust a survivor with a hatchet / Never trust a woman / Definitely, never trust a woman with a hatchet

I'm glad to see there does remain a shred of humanity out there, unfortunatly for me it's been weeks since I saw any acts of kindness and I've been KoS so many times now it's getting ridiculous, especially with this spawning at the coast everytime I log-in.

I swore earlier never to kill another player in this game as I probably never would in a real life Zombie Apocolypse, but in the past week I've had to kill 3 in self defence, even with me talking to them openly on mic saying I don't kill other players. Most of the time I run away when under fire but with the amount of hacked weapons floating about it's hard to run from an AS50 TWS.

Like so many people that aim to be "good" in this game I am being forced to play in a way I don't want to because 96% of players shoot on sight. I've been playing since mid June and still have 26,337 humanity but I'm enjoying this game less and less as time goes on since it's turned into some retarded CoD simulator.

I'm praying the skiddies, hackers and CoD kiddies find another game when the standalone comes out otherwise I'd say it's experiment failed by Rocket.

If someone tried to rob me of all my shit, I'd at least attempt to kill them. I'll take a possible death and a fresh spawn over 2 hours of running to a place with decent loot, people in this game are beyond retarded.

I haven't played as much as many/most. But so far any time I have encountered anyone, luckily I just went off in the other direction because they didn't see me. I don't wish to invite conflict.

Any time I thought I have heard someone outside a building or coming into a building I am in I say friendly, not hostile etc. In hopes they will keep it peaceful. I am down to barter or give things away. I'd rather help another survivor than kill them.

The only time I came close to gunning someone down was when my friend was killed. I didn't get there in time to get who had shot him.

I am sure my time will come soon and I will be gunned down. For I probably will not engage or shoot on site. Just not my style.

If you play alone, and want to survive, avoid people all together. Part of me wants to try to find random friendlies but i don't put any effort into it.

I recently called a medic for the first time, and it seems medics are more and more popular.
