Protoman 0 Posted May 14, 2012 Yes, if they are staying in the current situation they are in they probably should be removed. No, if they are fixed. If player (A) Shoots player (B) then player (B) kills player (A) he should not become a bandit.
soLch 1 Posted May 14, 2012 Yes remove the bandit skin.If possible, let players choose their own skins. Weather it be civil, militia/bandit ect we are all survivors but we are all look like we were cloned as a Truman show experiment lol =P
Mandra (DayZ) 0 Posted May 14, 2012 Yes Scrap them, A killer wont dress up as a killer to warn his prey.
metal_izanagi 3 Posted May 14, 2012 If you remove the bandit skins, do /something/ to ensure that people that have statistics pointing to lots of player-killing have some sort of flag on them. Killers might not "dress up as a killer" but they would be known for running around murdering a bunch of people. The "they can't say anything" argument is out the window, since death is not permanent in this mod. In fact, there should be a separate stat for how many bandits you've killed, so there would essentially be "peacekeepers" as well as bandits. A peacekeeper would be someone survivors could trust a lot more than a bandit, probably, and bandits would know to either stay away or try to pick them off from a distance, instead of being scumbags and pretending they're not inhuman monsters. Shimmler 4 Posted May 14, 2012 Yes, scrap them PLEASE. IRL you could never tell who stands in front of you in such situation by looking at an outfit.
Mandra (DayZ) 0 Posted May 14, 2012 Well, you do die and start over... Its why people are so scared when approaching other players. In the end even the nicest guy cant be trusted. What if he decides to kill you for you portable radio (not that there is a portable radio in the game hehe)Either way, I guess if this really is an issue, rather than actually pointing them out a mile a way with a an arrow over their head or w/e, what if it was more subtle?IE: Maybe the more you kill the more dog tags you collect and they stay permanent with you; like a number as opposed to a physical item. And when approaching someone you go "FRIEDNLY!?" and they pop their dog tag pouch open and you can see if they have been killing or not killing. Also, popping out the dog tag menu would put the "killer" in a menu so he wont be able to shoot you.If he doesnt want to show you his dog tags, well you decide. But to just obviously show who is who out in the open takes away from the immersion. in_Bloom 0 Posted May 14, 2012 No, I want them in-game because otherwise there would be no way of knowing who the people who constantly kill other players on sight are, the people who play the game as a pure deathmatch game

AlanDemarest 0 Posted May 14, 2012 I love how everyone is raving about 'realism' and 'reality'. This is not real life, this is a game.If bandit skins are removed everyone will shoot anyone they see, simply because the skin that signifies that they 'might' be trustworthy has been removed. If bandit skins are removed players won't trust anyone. They will rather shoot than ask questions, and there won't be any downside to it, they won't be 'punished' for their actions.
nightmareus 0 Posted May 14, 2012 Scrap them, I dont want to spawn in a free-for-all area when I first start, if getting rid of those awesome looking KSK models gets rid of the want to be a bandit, then I will be really happy with 5 people instead of 25 people running around killing newbs for ammo and food. Sgt.Spam 42 Posted May 14, 2012 I think players should be prompted to choose the skin and opt in, not be forced into it.This will allow players that want to gain the visible distinction can do so and the more devious players that want the option to befriend and then back stab players can do so without raising suspicion initially by appearing as a bandit. This is a clear way to say, 'Hey, I'm a PvP player" and all of the various things that go along with it. discoamazing 0 Posted May 15, 2012 Yes. Scrap them absolutely. In a real zombie apocalypse, you couldn't tell that somebody was about to kill you just based on their outfit.
Wüstenfuchs (DayZ) 105 Posted May 15, 2012 Removing bandit skins would destroy the survivor co-operation, which I think is an important part of the mod. Only survivor co-operation remaining after scrapping the bandit skin would be clans / communities co-operating among each other and never with any strangers. It is hard enough now to start trusting a stranger and co-operating with him (as many survivor-skinned ends up back-stabbing you too). If bandit skins are removed, many will choose to kill other survivors on sight, especially as it will no longer have any real consequences.
Zhivago 1 Posted May 15, 2012 Scrap the skin change mechanic but give us the option to use skins like the bandit skin somehow.

nomusss 0 Posted May 15, 2012 A lot of people are "hurr durr real life"Yeah ARMA wants to be a realistic combat simulator but it's still a game. Thats why you should think about it in terms of gameplay. I already see a lot of player killing for no reason and just imagine what happens when you delete a bandit skin? It will completely kill the cooperation option. Everyone will be scared, oh people already scared to coop with someone except their friends and removing the skin will copletely prevent occasional cooperation. On server i play people rarely get together because everyone afraid of each other.
TillGrave (DayZ) 0 Posted May 15, 2012 Yes, scrap them, I'd prefer to see them replaced by a similar system with different levels. This might be more difficult later on, but for now scrap them to get on with more important things...
dsi24 227 Posted May 15, 2012 Yes, scrap them, pushing players towards certain roles without their consent is terrible design. Besides that, having 'roles' in general is an affront to the potential for this game to be as free-form as Eve or anything else in that vein.Maybe allow players to rate other players in some way?
metal_izanagi 3 Posted May 15, 2012 That invites "popularity" votes where just because someone isn't liked by a few people, their score could drop even if they do nothing. As for those going on about realism: ARMA is a /game/. GAME. Do you know what a game is? Do you also know that real-life is nothing like the simulation ARMA is? There aren't helpful green icons that pop up when you aim your gun at an ally, and you can't just pull out your amazingly accurate map that has your position marked at all times. DayZ doesn't need to be a full-on simulation in regards to banditry, because if it was, nobody would have any reason to ever do anything but shoot anyone not in their clan/group of friends. That just turns the entire game into team deathmatch, or for the unlucky folks without people they can trust while playing, a one-sided crapper of a mod where you go around killing zombies for a bit, then get shot in the head by some asshole who wants the starting gear you have. Luieburger 15 Posted May 15, 2012 No Keep them. Also, allow humanity to go up and you get a new skin for Peacekeeper, someone players trust.Give humanity to players who kill bandits.
metal_izanagi 3 Posted May 15, 2012 No Keep them. Also' date=' allow humanity to go up and you get a new skin for Peacekeeper, someone players trust.Give humanity to players who kill bandits.[/quote']Yup, that's what I suggested earlier. A much better solution, and it /should/ cut down on the number of people running around killing everything that moves, providing a "good" alternative to bandits. It's natural that in any human environment where you have immoral scumbags killing people, you'll have at least a few people that stand up for basic human rights and bring the hammer down on murderers, thieves, and bigots. The Killing Joke 43 Posted May 15, 2012 ...you'll have at least a few people that stand up for basic human rights and bring the hammer down on murderers' date=' thieves, and bigots.[/quote']Whoa whoa whoa.Bigots? Where did that come from? Also, definition: "A person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices, especially one who exhibits intolerance or animosity toward members of a group."You mean like being against bandits? You can't deny that I (and like-minded people) are calling for the evening of the masses. No skins. No bigotry. Everybody looks the same. There's no argument from me that people are abusing the system. Labeling them is NOT the solution. There are better ideas.TKJ
