Visionz 7 Posted August 4, 2012 So today I was thinking about some good suggestions after terrorizing some fresh spawns in elektro, I decided that foot prints would be a great addition to the game and make tracking through grass and dirt much easier. I haven't really came up with any time frame they would stay around but I feel the supplementation would be fairly easy since it could just be like a brownish decal or such if you are running on the dirt or grass and maybe even let some of the dirt tracks follow you onto the pavement in town.
Jswah 7 Posted August 4, 2012 Imho it's a good idea, but too annoying to implement and track server side for such a little improvement to gameplay.
Visionz 7 Posted August 4, 2012 I didn't kill the fresh spawns :(
Tain (DayZ) 8 Posted August 4, 2012 I like the idea, any sort of tracking system would be nice.

ivan keska 39 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) All the carebears don't like my idea :'(It's realistic and I support it, but your crude and unreal gameplay style I don't . Now if people could lock down an area then by all means have shoot on site, since you guarding you claim. But I think just laying in grass to long or going prone throughit should leave the grass pressed down, that way you can more easily identify sniper hides and trails. Lukio (DayZ) 24 Posted August 4, 2012 All the carebears don't like my idea :'(I think its more that most people don't think it makes sense.Did you ever play WoW or another MMO that had this? Go walk through a sandy or snowy area. Notice how long footsteps are available (about 5 seconds). Having footsteps from 50-70 players being shown throughout more than 1 minute would put a huge strain on the server. Imagine instead of footsteps you'd drop a tin can every step, its basically the same mechanic and the server needs to keep track of every can.Even most FPS games feature decals (like bloodstains, bullet holes, footsteps etc.) that rarely are visible more than 1 - 2 minutes, probably less when online. To add something that supports your idea, I would think it was ok if some kind of tracking mechanism would be implemented, maybe the way it was in Ultima Online, that worked fine, even without footsteps. bazbake 456 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) Maybe if every few minutes you randomly left behind a small decal of your footprints that disappears over time, but only if you were walking across an open field or on a dirt road. You could even select the footprints and "hide footprints" to cover your tracks. The random chance would increase if you were sprinting. And only the last three decals would be active. The fourth decal would replace the first one. Edited August 4, 2012 by BazBake
sausagekingofchicago 4711 Posted August 4, 2012 I'd rather have the dog do this once it's properly trained.
Womb Raider 92 Posted August 4, 2012 Good idea, been suggested before. Like others have said though it would be hard to implement and if it were, is it worth it.

Firewood 0 Posted August 4, 2012 Nice idea, That will make it way more tactical :P - Should be cool if you can 'inspect' the Footprints so you know if the footprints are fresh or not :P
lolcoppter 12 Posted August 4, 2012 (edited) What about when a guys bleeding a fountain of blood out of hes skull there can be some blood texture on the floors or walls if he brushes them.... and each blood texture that are made last for like 3 minutes Edited August 4, 2012 by Lolcoppter
liquidcactus 719 Posted August 5, 2012 Not a bad idea there sonny but like some them other chaps said it would probably do more bad then good with lots players and server lagg bs ya know ^__^But like i said still a good(ish) idea
freeman83 51 Posted August 5, 2012 great idea!, their is a lot we can take from MGS3/
wtfosaurus 30 Posted August 7, 2012 I think tracking techniques in general would be great additions to this game, finding people trash etc. I think this would have to be something done in the standalone if they chose to implement something like this though! Mister Motivational 24 Posted August 7, 2012 The grass patches which players knock over by moving through them, do they remain down for any length of time? If not then could they? That would be a very subtle indication someone had recently been in the area.
