Nex (DayZ) 25 Posted July 28, 2012 (edited) *I know these threads have been made loads of times.*The current clothing models we have at the time is quite unrealistic, in this case they don't fit the atmosphere, the region we're playing in. I am suggesting the dev team and hopefully not only they see this, but a lot of other players from this community, we'll see what happens.I suggest to remove the Ghillie suit (Yes, no more walking bushes) and the Camo suit is optional, but recommended. Why? Well, you wouldn't be actually able to easily get an American army used ghillie suit in Chernarus which doesn't look as a much populated area and it's also in Russia. Then again, I'd like the "civilian" model, which is from the PMC content, to be removed as well. Why? I know that it's kind of a DayZ mascot now, but it's unrealistic as well. Basically, every civilian is tactically dressed, with not some typical bullet-proof vest. After all this is Chernarus and not many people can afford to find a high quality Ghillie suit. What we would replace them with? Well, I think these models would fit a bit more to what survivors would look in Chernarus, basically they're more realistic than the current ones and gives a bit of a variation to the player apparel. From the given websites, most of the models could be used, except a few that don't fit of the way they look or what they have on itThe models are from ArmA 2 and pictures are taken from these websites: http://www.armatechs...its/Insurgents/http://www.armatechs...nits/Guerillas/These are the models:http://www.armatechs...E_Soldier_1.jpghttp://www.armatechs...E_Soldier_2.jpghttp://www.armatechs...E_Soldier_3.jpghttp://www.armatechs..._Soldier_CO.jpghttp://www.armatechs...s_Soldier_1.jpghttp://www.armatechs...s_Soldier_2.jpghttp://www.armatechs..._Soldier_CO.jpghttp://www.armatechs..._Soldier_GL.jpgand for those who like ghillies we could have this one http://www.armatechs...dier_Sniper.jpg Sorry, I couldn't make these appear as in pictures. These would be clothing items, they way they'd work is whenever you put on this specific named clothing, one of the models from that group of selected models, would be randomly generated and bound to you. So even if you take it off and put it on again, you'd still have that same randomly generated model. This is why so people couldn't spam the server with randomizing the models. You would only have another model randomized and attached to your character if you die and create another one.I apologize if my post is unclear as I was having difficulties formulating all this. Give me some feedback on whether I should fix any mistakes that I've done. Also your own versions related to my suggested models would be appreciatedSo this isn't a must be done in the next update, but I'd love if one of the devs would give this a look and I know there might've been similar posts, that means we'd love this in game. And I'm p.sure setting this up in game wouldn't cause any issues to the quality of DayZ. :beans: Edited July 28, 2012 by Nex
Vile_233 2 Posted July 28, 2012 I like this idea, I think it would be good if we could go back to some kind of visual way to tell what kind of person you come across.Maybe Bandits could have a skin from http://www.armatechsquad.com/ArmA2Class151656165165341654165165165165f/A2/Units/Guerillas/With a default "survivor" skin applied from http://www.armatechsquad.com/ArmA2Class151656165165341654165165165165f/A2/Units/Insurgents/ until you have a positive murder / bandit kill ratio
caelistas 1 Posted July 28, 2012 Great idea, i'd love to have some more diversity in the available character clothing. How about making a poll for it to see if there is any interest for it.
nobody 31 Posted July 28, 2012 you people want only realism... "this is not reallistic, this is reallistic" in a while DayZ would sucks because it no more will be as fun as now.Whole DayZ is unreallistic.. if you want realism... you should remove zombies too, you should remove whole chernarus because its unreallistic.. so i am saying no.. maybe some chlothing changes yes.. but Camo's,Ghillie's need to be here... its good, something like reward for surviving.. so no... just no

tobiassolem 173 Posted July 28, 2012 What I mean is, it's more realistic according to an apocalypse. What apocalypse? Whose realism? It's not like there is some background story being violated here apart from yours.Your ideas do have some merit, but your argument around "realism" is flawed since it is based on your own view which quite obviously is not in line with others. FuzzyPooka 20 Posted July 28, 2012 Keep the Ghillie Suit. It's an icon of DayZ. There is NOTHING in the game that causes the same excitement. "Oh my GGAAAAWWWDDD, III FFFOOOUUUNNNDDD A... Ghillie Suit!" Realism: You want it to be realistic? Go join the Marines, and don't play a computer game.
Scarlet_Blade 12 Posted July 29, 2012 Realism?Realism is when the Russians destroy every single fucking zombie and end the pandemic.Russians are badasses and don't take shit from NOBODY
dev0 19 Posted July 29, 2012 I do agree that we need some form of visual customization for our characters. Since I am pretty sure though that decent character customization is not doable in the ArmA II engine (at least from what I have learned reading and listening to a couple of Dean Hall interviews), I expect we'll have to wait until there is a stand-alone or ArmA III based release of DayZ. Until then I think efforts should be focused on features and bugs that actually are well fixable in the context of the current implementation.
thales2010@live.com.au 6 Posted October 5, 2012 I'd just like to add that only the insurgent skins that have been linked can use backpacks all the others cant models need to be from OA and above.
ziogualty 45 Posted October 5, 2012 (edited) Apart from the OP topic. This "realistic" vs "unrealistic" is a bit illogical.A zombie apocalypse is unrealistic for sure. But this does not mean that your char (a man) can fly with angel wings just because "a zombie apocalypse is unrealistic so don't bother with real stuff".I hardly believe that people are not able to realize what should be realistic and what not in a game like this...About ghillies: in my opinion they are fine, but should be very rare, and (confirmed for standalone) deteriorable. indominator 95 Posted October 5, 2012 This "realistic" vs "unrealistic" is a bit illogical. At eurogamer rocket stated he is aiming at autheticity, and let me tell you that everyone does it in games and other entertainment industry, because if we cant relate the game world to ours we break imersion and we end up not enjoying it, as i can see he is trying to go for a lot of authenticity, despite the zombies that should proly be taken from elsewhere

tommygun9504 8 Posted October 24, 2012 Realism aside, the ArmA 2 player models cannot use backpacks, only units added with Operation Arrowhead can use them, since that's when the backpack system was added. However, I'm sure Rocket could change it IF he really wants to.Here's hoping some more variety of skins are seen in the standalone. starwarsfan@gmx.de 450 Posted October 24, 2012 There really is no need to ressurect this topic, a more in depth clothing system is already been confrimed to be planned for the standalone by Rocket himself. There won't be any need for 'skins' and you'll be able to fully customize your look with things you find.
Sutinen 635 Posted October 24, 2012 The standalone will get rid of the ArmA 2 models and get brand new stuff. Rocket talked about waterproof and camouflage jackets (Obviously weather will become much more serious in the standalone) that can be probably found inside residental buildings. So we probably wont see Chernarussian insurgent outfits. terrvik 2409 Posted October 24, 2012 A question for you people that knows this kind of stuff: are there realistic drawbacks to wearing a ghillie suit in real life? Do you get warm in one? Can you move easily? Do they make noise? If yes, this should definitely be a part of the game. :)
