Best 3rd party communication program?

Recommended Posts

What does everyone use for 3rd party communication? I'm a loner right now but will probably join a group at some point.

So far I have seen: Teamspeak, Skype, Mumble.

What is used the most?

Mumble

EDIT: Well, you did ask what was used the most. It seems to depend on the game type. MMO players seem to use vent often, ArmA and other FPS it seems to be TS, but the best I think is by far mumble.

Teamspeak 3 gets my vote.

We have a TS3 and a Mumble server and by far the more popular is TS3. We used to have a Vent server which I personally really liked but to be fair it's been far left behind by TS3 and Mumble.

Also, Ventrilo. Used to use that in my old BFBC2 clan, before they switched to TS for BF3. TBH, I loved Vent. So much more user-friendly than TS. Or at least it felt that way to me.

Both mumble and TS3 and good, ventrilo is fairly dated and crap nowadays and has a lot less features.

Mumble or TS3 are what I prefer

Vent is crap, skype doesn't have PTT. I won't play with people who don't use PTT.

I prefer Mumble, because contrary to TeamSpeak it's open-source and server hosting is completely free, no matter how many users or servers you want to run.

Mumble had low-latency and high-quality audio years before TeamSpeak3 was ever released as a beta. Unfortunately the audio configuration is much less forgiving than TeamSpeak's, especially with voice activation. So a lot of people waited for TS3 while still using the crappy TS2. Which is a pity , Mumble deserves much more attention IMHO.

But in the end it's just a tool. Look for a community you want to join, and then install the voice chat program THEY are using. Most of the time that will be TeamSpeak3 as it's the most popular.

Depends on the number of people. As long as there are only a hand full of people in the channel, voice activation can be fine. I personally use voice activation but I have a "Push to Mute" button in Mumble which I press when eating snacks :P

TS3, Vent, Mumble and Skype.

Pick your poison.

Vent used to be my favorite but it lost quality over the last few years so now we use TS3.

Mumble just doesn't respond right to me and Skype is not really usefull for dedicated conversations.

I vote for the use whatever the group your joining uses.

I used to use vent, now i use TS3. Mumble a little with a few friends but mainly TS3.

Skype is eh, i hate listening to people eating.

Vent is the best.. User specific volume changes make it so that you can hear people with quiet mics and people with loud mics at same volume.. also it's easy to set up

mumble. like has been stated... open-source. run a server at home and works GREAT. for just a client, TS3 isn't bad either.

I have run all three, and currently run Mumble and Ventrilo. I only keep the Vent server up because my mother in law uses it in Minecraft and I don't feel like switching over.

I have 10 to 25 people in Mumble at all hours, and no hit on my connection at home (15/15 fiber)

Mumble is simply the better choice because it's open source, though you might have to use your brain a bit since the options it gives you are fairly robust.

Mumble.

No need to register for a free license like TS requires.

Able to support a TON of users.

Administration is <3.

Can link channels together so leaders can address multiple squads at the same time (while each squad is in their own channel)
