Tenderness 30 Posted July 25, 2012 Every time I start anew, I notice that I have been getting faster at finding my location, finding what my next stop should be, and generally just where to look, and what to look for. As I got better, I were able to do this faster, and now I am interested in hearing your stories about the fastest gearing you have done on one of your characters.I once spawned just outside Elektro, so I started crawling into the city to the place with two big buildings next to a supermarket. On my way there I passed a small building, where i picked up a hatchet. In the first large building I found a handgun+ammo, knife, food, water bottle, soda, matches, map, watch and I believe I also found a compass. I had never tried looting a building with this much usable loot, and i was allready pretty happy, and ready to leave cherno. I moved on to the supermarket, seeing as it was on the way out of the city. In there I found a Czech Backpack aswell as a tent and some more food. All this happened in under 20 minutes, and I was simply amazed of my luck. How fast have you tried to get the basic gear and equipment? Hakultair 114 Posted July 25, 2012 I feel that once you've been playing for a while and you understand where to look it gets rly easy to find basic gear. I usually am ready to leave the coast 15 minutes after spawning or so nowadays.
Snipes12 (DayZ) 3 Posted July 25, 2012 I generally can put together that a BARN = Winchester, which means I am usually good on firearms relatively fast. Having that gun quickly means I really don't lose anything when I die, but am a notch above the random survivor with a hatchet that you come across while finding the other basics. I don't know why, but i always stumble across a double-barrel shotgun in every barn i loot.
stinkyghost 28 Posted July 25, 2012 Elektro Loot Guide : Go to the Church first, then the South Firestation, then the Pub, then the supermarket, then the school thing, then the north fire station then the barn north of the south firestation and then GTFO of there so about 30 mins for Water, Knife, Hatchet, Map, Compass, Gun(s), Food and matches. So basically the works to survive in the wild.
libertine (DayZ) 2 Posted July 25, 2012 it comes down to luck eventually ... the basic stuff like handgun/hatchet/some sort of shotung you can always get rather fast..the rest is luck based...ive spent days without finding a single compass(but 10 or so watches instead) or map ... toolboxes are also kinda rare
Womb Raider 92 Posted July 25, 2012 Depending on where I spawn, if I spawn near one of the major cities, I'll try and make my way to there. If I manage to get to one of them, I check the fire stations, supermarkets, corner houses, hospitals, etc. Usually after that I'm all set to go and I can pick up items like matches and maps along my travels. If I don't spawn near a major city, I usually make my way in-land and find gear in barns and dear stands, works out nicely for me. The only problem with doing this is, I'll need to go get medical supplies.
zeu77455 5 Posted July 25, 2012 well i keep respawning till im in electro then i book it to the red houses almost always get a makarov and some food and water. then i run to the fire house find atleast 50% of the time a good gun. then the church for ammo/food. supermarket for a good bag and food. hospital for some supplies then im off
[Gen]Adzic 241 Posted July 25, 2012 Usually takes me about 15-30 minutes at any coastal city to find the necessary survival gear, any weapon (sidearm or rifle with a bit of ammo), a Map, Compass, Knife, Hatchet and a Water bottle (empty or filled) after that I head north. Kill an animal on the way up for food, & Bobs your uncle.Anything else I need is found on my northern adventures, where its generally less populated and more safe :)
Bottlerocket 205 Posted July 25, 2012 Sadly, it's about 15 minutes if you're near a major city, as many have said.If you sprint in and ignore zombies, you can get loot far too quickly. The only danger is coming across another player. This has to change.

I have seen people just running around in the cities, because the zombies can be lost so easily, so the whole sneaking part can turn out to be useless. Seeing as gearing up is luckbased, it should not be this easy to just loot every building in the cities.
Riiquiem 35 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) There's no need to stay at the beach at all. As soon as you spawned head directly to stary and the nw airfield. you find everything you need on the way or when you arrived.Takes about half an hour and you are ready to shoot poeple again with decent gear, just never stop, don't care about zombies (who does anyway), just run. SP45M 240 Posted July 25, 2012 (edited) Gearing up is fun, ill often stash all my gear in a tent on a quiet server and join another more active one for a gear run just for the sake of some low risk pvp. My favourite route is to spawn west of cherno. Hit the industrials first for a hatchet then supermarket, zig zag high lvl res across to the med tents for a decent primary if Im lucky then into the hills. I don't equip a primary till im on the way out because they are just too damn noisy, hatchet for zoms and people with their backs turned and pistol for bandits and emergencies. Usually 30mins on average but I have had lucky runs where a little luck and and a murder has geared me faster. Shot an eleven day old player (got the info from side chat) and two of his friends five minutes into a game with an enfield when I was just a nub, nothin to great gear in under ten mins. God I love this game :) Edited July 25, 2012 by SP45M
nufcmickey 32 Posted July 25, 2012 Yesterday for instance I died in a pickup truck explosion, and my friend survived, I knew where we go to meet. So I spawns near Elecktro on the coast, headed straight into the forrest as its just a suicide mission going into cities, first barn I come to I find a CMZ with tons of ammo, Some food and a water bottle, Then the first dear hut I got a 24 slot Coyote pack. Then the deer hut where I meet my friend I got an M10 shotty, He had picked up my map, compass etc etc so was all good and well within like 15 minutes to half hour. It dont always work out like this though, theres been many times Ive spawned and carnt even find an empty can :(
Celestia 16 Posted July 25, 2012 The ease of loosing gear has to be kept in balance with the ease of acquiring gear.Sometimes you spawn run over get all your basics then get shot right away and start the 20 minute process over again.Other times you go 5 days and don't find a map. Just hatchets and baby booties. It takes me about 25 to 30 minutes because regardless of server. High or Low population I got to the firehouses and they have been looted or just have chem lights and other low medium value stuff. I consider myself pretty lucky if I manage to get a map and a watch in the same market, yes I have bad luck.

Mad arnt ya, Straight to the NW airfield is just an instant death and a wasted hour or more journey, bare in mind you need to loot food and drink on your way, Theres not even any point in going there tbh, you get all what spawns there at crashed choppers and deer huts, It really is a wasted journy, But if you want extreme tense moments and excitement then by all means go there, it certainly gives you that feeling when you see those dirty grey walls surrounding it. Ive died enough times there that its just not worth it.
WalkerDown (DayZ) 296 Posted July 25, 2012 I've calculated mine, it was around 17 minutes on average for my basic gear: alice backpack, some food, canteen, M1911/Revolver, an assault rifle or a winchester, compass, hospital stuff (morphine, blood bags), knife, matches. I usually collect these in the big two cities.. then i move inside. But most of the times i collect my original stuff back, coz of my clan mates.
Blindingsun 233 Posted July 25, 2012 Start at Cherno. = run to the construction building with the crane. mostly every time i've been there i've found hatchet/waterbottle/something to drink/ and usually another crap weapon and some ammo.. and food..and the fire in the building is good if your temperature is dropping too
8465-12-338-0560 1 Posted July 25, 2012 15 minutes, no matter where you spawn. What basic gear means to me:You have either 1 Water Bottle or 2-3 Soda Cans.1-2 Cans of Something. (Beans preferred of course)Any kind of weapon. (this includes the hatchet)This is enough to survive any run you want to make.
BobTheBuilders 0 Posted July 28, 2012 I can hardly ever find guns, lmao :P I'm a noob.
Albatros (DayZ) 40 Posted July 28, 2012 In under 15 minutes I've gone from a fresh spawn to having an AS50, a MK 48 Mod 0, a L85A2 LWS, a Coyote backpack, every tool, and countless supplies.Currently have all that gear and 20 tents and 2 cars, with only 6 zombie kills. Flurf 25 Posted July 28, 2012 How fast have you tried to get the basic gear and equipment?Once you know the map and loot locations without looking it's pretty easy. I'd say maybe average 30 minutes and much less if I spawn near cherno.
bottar1 18 Posted November 12, 2012 Sometimes you just meet the right people and out of not being a dick you can get geared fast.I met a bunch of guys with a ural at NW airfield and received an AS50 from their ural, with ammo, and then we took down 2 choppers full of bandits who tried to kill us, and received all the loot id ever want. daze23 549 Posted November 12, 2012 it comes down to luck eventually ...pretty much. I might fins a DMR in the first deer-stand by Kamenka. other times I got all the way to the NWAF without finding any weapons. I've ran around Elektro only to find a bunch of tin cans or no loot at all. or I might find a body with all the top-tier gearbut I would say generally it's around 15-20 minutes
jason_m_perry@hotmail.com 38 Posted November 12, 2012 Depending upon where you start varies the time on gearup. If you have DB up on another monitor it really helps. I know all the maps like the back of my hand these days, so it doesn't take long at all. Part of the reason why there is bandits like myself is that once gearing becomes trivial and zombies are trivial and you've had all the cars/helis many times there is nothing else to do other then shoot other players. In some instances killing another player allows you the fastest gearup =)
