new feature: military

The premise is simple, somewhere in this world there is still a structured social organization, and they decide to do something about the situation in chernarus.

but instead of trying to save the people there, they have a simple mission: wipe out and purge of any single trace of life on the area, shoot ANYTHING on sight and kill everyone, doesn't matter if they are infected or survivors.

and so, a gigantic military encampment is set on the lopatino airfield in chernarus, deploying all kinds of war machines and military equipment, with the sole objective to exterminate the locals in the area.

They move in patrols all over the wasteland, they do indeed harness a lot of valuable equipment but they're organized, they have more information and better weapons.

So as a survivor, now you also have to worry not only about zombies, bandits and high altitudes, but also deadly military patrols all over the place, and if you dare go against them, they will track you down and assassinate you.

technical aspects:

- introduce a military npc only faction, shouldn't be too hard considering arma 2.

- they patrol all over chernarus in quite big groups, and will engage anyone on sight, they will stay away from coast areas.

- they have the rarest equipment available in large quantities (gps, rare guns)

- anyone who kills a soldier gets a bounty on them and are more propense to face patrols.

there are so many more possibilities to add depth to the game...

Awesome Idea!!! I love it. Squad groups of 5-6 is the most i recomend though. anymore and i dont think id be able to take them lmao

Someone made a suggestion similar to this about having small convoys or soldiers (on foot or in vehicles) that just kill all Zombies and players alike, whiping out anything.

But! If you and your clan are strong enough you can kill the 5+ soldiers for an amazing stash of loot including 5+ weapons, lots of supplies and a vehicle or two :)

like the idea. but this would have to be very polished in reward vs difficulty.

and i do not like the bounty so much. the current dayz engine spawn zombies in a 200m circle around you. and therefore these groups would not be supported by how the game works right now.

but not a bad idea. they should be extremely rare and strong. and not carry to much, just what a normal recon team would have, minimal with stuff, some weapons and a cupple of clips.

as of this moment dayZ is in need of more critical stuff than adding such a big overhaul, that considering this is even considered, but it's never too bad to daydream a bit every once in a while.

would be too much on servers and cause major fps drops due to an entire firefight in another location. it can be pulled off. but be ready for lag increases.

But the military are also players so it would be same lag as it is now.I am all for this idea.I want reason to kill other players and by having military trying to wipe out us survivors....well then war has been declared.

Been suggested many, many times before. NPC's are never going to happen, when will you people learn.

The only time you will ever see a roaming military patrol if it is player made.

when someone suggests AI do the same thing we get universal applause?

this suggestion gets zero support from me, precisely because there are already military death squads and they're played by real people

DayZ cannot and will not compromise on being a player defined world

What about this? No ground force, too risky. What about periodic sweeps from NPC gunships over heavily populated areas? They'll clear the streets of zeds for a while but finding hard cover to avoid them is a must because they will engage any and all targets.

Because this is not a good idea. At any given point, there are at least two suggestions for "NPC camps".

They are not going to happen. Rocket himself has said as much. Stop fucking posting suggestions for things that the creator has already said are not going to happen.

1st - zombies are NPCs, just not as intelligent and/or organized as the ones I'm suggesting, I don't see your point,

2nd- well I see this pretty hard to achieve, especially when as the state of the current community, nobody wants to organize nor team up with others.

player driven will never work, there are only 3 ways a game can end if you give too much liberty to players (and we can already see this):

- people exploit the shit out of the game glitches

- people cheat and hack the shit out of the game

- people grief and harrash the shit out of other players for sheer diversion.

restricting the player possibilities would prevent this but then it would go against the game philosophy, not restricting will send this game to hell.

no there are not, I've yet to see any trace of organization being made by players on such low playercount servers, all I see is one guy shooting another who just met for no reason, then getting shot in the back by another who was watching him, and the last one gets shot down by another who had a sniper rifle and was sitting 300m from them, that's the general feeling of the game right now.

well if rocket said no, then it's no, cannot argue against that.

but I saw potential on this game to deliver a true Player vs Environment experience, something you don't see too much anymore on other games. As of now this game's endgame is still PvP, and it's gratuitous killing for no reason since once you've spawned enough times you'll be able to gear up pretty easily with not much opposition or resistance. I'm proposing to implement a common and very powerful enemy to all players, so as to make players actually organize and team up, to fight for a greater cause.

I like the idea except the bounty thing. That seems a bit off to me. I think it would be awesome to see a military convoy slowly moving through the city killing anything that moves, maybe they kill a bandit or two. Take the idea even further and maybe they set up camps all around the map that can be over taken and held for as long as your able too.

I like the general of a NPC anti everything faction, because I think this is actually a good oppotunity to get players to group up.

To accomplish this, I would make them strong and expanding.

First,

- Their mission would be to wipe the continent town by town.

- So in the beginning when they land somewhere by ship or aircraft, there is only a minimum threat.

- Players might be fighting them for loot, but because they are only located in one region you could just avoid them.

- Over time they send out troops to the other cities, which eventually kill the infected population and establish a base there.

- If Players want to upkeep access to the cities, they need to team up and fight them of.

- When the final camp has fallen, there will be ne reinforcement after some hours? day? somewhere else on the map.

Second,

- There might be nicer, maybe not repairable loot like tanks.

- other stuff like some kind of "tracking devices" to gps-mark a vehicle to track it on the map. Maybe shootable over distance on that overflying helicopter? ;D

Not a terrible idea, however, I would say they should not be able to be looted. If anything, maybe a small stash like at helicopter crash sites, when you destroy a vehicle or an entire military group.

I am slowly learning that the beauty of this game is that the more experience survivors will alwas be able to hunt down fresh "survivors", because the playerbase is so incredibly large. Imagine this was a smaller mod and the game would actually have to be interesting to keep you playing...

The one thing I hope for is that factions will be made and will be consitent throughout servers. Factions will create goals and goals will clash with other factions goals. If Rocket needs a writer, I am up for giving it a try. It will never be scripted, just give a little more motivation, in the way a shop gives motivation to search it, now.

I imagine you can join the factions according to your current gear. So, only a guy who has military equipment will be able to join a military squad like the one mentioned in the thread. The military will shoot down anything and be ruthless like the bandits, but they also have missions, e.g. to establish a sattelite link to restore communications or reactivate an overseer drone and scout an area. Every faction would have unique goals and can chose to play them out or to make up their own goals.

Factions could be switched at given locales, e.g. if you want to join military - at military camps, if you want to join regular survivor, at bars, if you want to join meds at hospitals and if you want to join traders at shops. That wouldn't break the immersion and would keep the idea of some diversion the OP had alive.
