This is a simulator not a game.

I see dayz players say this all the time, mostly the roleplayers. What about dayz is different from other games that makes it a simulator?

ARMA II is a combat simulator. This mod is built off the ARMA II engine.

You do the math.

Depending on the context, DayZ can be a game, just a mod, a simulator, an anti-game or a social experiment.

It's all playing with words to sound smarter than the person you're arguing with and pretend you know precisely what Rocket wants to do with DayZ.

Sim is a genre of game, you have flight sims, driving sims and military sims just to name a few, its considered a sim because it attempts to mimic as much real life accuracy as it can, with movement, weapons (ranges, kick, sounds, rounds ect), as well as eating, drinking, damage you can take, so on and so forth

Personally I don't consider Day Z a simulator, but it certainly has aspects of one in comparison to games like Left 4 Dead and Killing Floor. I would put in features like crapping, sleeping, mental breakdowns/disorders and etc. if I wanted to make it like a simulator... and I'm thinking that probably wouldn't be any fun at all, haha.

from Wikipedia

Simulation is the imitation of the operation of a real-world process or system over time. The act of simulating something first requires that a model be developed; this model represents the key characteristics or behaviors of the selected physical or abstract system or process. The model represents the system itself, whereas the simulation represents the operation of the system over time.

So yeah this is zombie apocalipse simulator - what will hapan if ....

if Dayz would be on BF3 or COD engeene then lots of ppl would think that its would be possible to jump out from 3rd floor and stay alive - or you will have unlimited ammo/supplays etc :)

The question is invalid per Wikipedia a simulation is a game.

A simulation game attempts to replicate various activities in "real life" in the form of a game for various purposes: training, analysis, or prediction. Usually there are no strictly defined goals in the game, just running around, playing as a character.[1] Well-known examples are war games, business games, and role play simulation.

Starting from three basic types of strategic, planning and learning exercises: games, simulations and case studies,- a number of hybrids may be considered, among which are simulation games and simulation games used as case studies.[2]

The comparisons of the merits of simulation games versus other teaching techniques have been carried out by many researchers and a number of comprehensive reviews have been published.[3]

You can approach this game any way you want. You want to play it arcade style?...plenty of servers, sp, coop and mp missions to choose from. You want to approach it as realistically as possible?...same deal, plenty to choose from. Somewhere in between?...yup, no problem! Originally it is marketed as a military simulation, but a better description could be "The game that allows you unprecedented freedom in how you want to play it!".

Extremely flawed logic. Just because something isn't working correctly, does not negate it's existence.
