Roaming Military

Recommended Posts

Right now there's no bad side to sprinting down a road in the countryside.

There're no zombies to worry about, players are quite rare. What we need is something that will really scare the shit out of you. Something that will make you panic and go prone, whilst also making you think "hey, this is an opportunity."

I'd like to suggest that there are roaming soldiers that are bloodied and dirty, equipped with m16s that have limited ammo and czech backpacks containing (randomly spawned amounts of food and ammo per soldier) the guns they are equipped with could even be random, some have pistols whilst others have assault rifles and shotguns (snipers should be VERY rare on these guys.)

Basically they walk in single file either side of the road with their guns down, they will shoot anything that moves be it human/infected, this gives players reason to avoid the roads and also adds some sort of persistent human enemy that wanders through the map along the roads. I don't yet have a way to avoid road blocks figured out, but perhaps they'd just use a similar pathing system as the zombies. These guys would have similar visual/auditory as the zombies but they'd be somewhat more alert and have a larger visual range. The soldiers would really just wander from town to town shooting things they see until they're out of ammo at which point they'll probably die - the bodies could be persistent also, encouraging players to follow roads and enter towns (at the cost of meeting a few of the living soldiers) to find their corpses for loot. In this sense they'd be similar to helicopter crash sites, only there would be maybe only one or two that spawn per server restart.

This could be an incentive to team up and try to take them out (if the soldiers haven't already been wiped.)

If you read this, you deserve some beans.

Gimme my beans,

Joking  *shows his m14*

I like the idea, government killing everything on site. It will spice more the game.

Hmm, I'm not sure if I like this idea too much. It sounds good as a concept, but what I don't like is the fact that it is just another way that you can get shot and killed aside from bandits. It's bad enough having to watch out for zombies and players - it would be really annoying if you wander into a soldiers sight range without seeing them and all of a sudden all these guns just mow you down in an instant. But then again it's a great chance for looting some better weapons, ammo and other supplies. So I really can't decide.

How about they only kill zombies and bandits?

Zombies, fair enough - but I feel it would be abit too unfair to bandits.

How about they will take your weapons and ammo? Then you can decide if you wanna lose your weapons or fight and it wouldn't be too unrealistic that soldiers take the weapons away from the civilians. ;)

I love you'r idea but it need a little improvement

*They should walk to walk to working military camp on the road

*They should shoot bandits and zombie on site, but if you aim at solider too long they will shoot(2 min but they give a warning)

*There should be scavenger teams who visit city and report back to base

*You should be able to trade at camp(This will also add currency to game)

*Military guards at base

*This mean that people wouldn't shoot on site as much so that they can trade will them

ALSO THEY SHOULD NOT TAKE AWAY GUNS CIVILIAN CAN HAVE GUNS APART FROM AUTOMATIC GUNS(MACHINE GUN)

You know ArmA 2 is a military simulator. There is already great human AI. Play the vanilla game once and see for yourself. There is no need to for the HUMANS to have upgraded zombie AI. It is very very easy to spawn in patrols in the editor. It is also easy to have them patrol roads. This is all possible in the engine.

If they have Czech backpacks they should carry the Czech assault rifle SA58. Imagine the Chernarus was devastated by the apocalypse but the Czech republic survived and they send kill squads into Chernarus to clean the area up

Shooting bots becomes boring pretty fast. Go play some warfare (BE is not that bad) and you will come to the same conclusion.

They should shoot everything on site. How do they will know that i'm a bandit or just a survivor? All of them wearing gas masks searching for zombies or infected (we unfortunately).

They should travel mostly in big roads and near "military" spots... but in very small packs.

They were alerted by local survivors of your banditry?

or maybe you killed another player when they were walking near you.

I posted before on this but with a twist. Not regular military since it seems weird that they would be killing all survivors also.Instead have it so some kind of corrupt government bent on killing the survivors to start a new world order.Real evil guys wearing gas masks as the virus is still airborne and so many survivors will eventually succumb to it.Think Stalker like and have these guys as players instead of AI.In order to get to be one you need to achieve something. Then force servers to have a 2 to 1 ratio in favor of survivors. This would be so immersion boosting if your struggling to survive and see these guys coming up the dirt hill your camped at.

Maybe they get one chopper per server and the pilot shuttles new blood out as this squad roams the land trying to eradicate any survivors left.Would be excellent to see it tie in with the upcoming underground bases that survivors will be building.

Poor soldiers. If this ever gonna be implemented, then every other survivor will try to get his hands on soldiers' gear. The only way for this to work out and to make these patrol anywhere dangerous to the player is to reinforce it with tanks.

This idea is perfect! Would fit right in. Any further suggestions to this would ruin it, people would be asking too much (for example working military camps above - wtf)

Yes! This video is what I was thinking of. Obviously the soldiers wouldn't be as well geared up/clean as the bases are overrun, these soldiers are guys who survived by running/hiding. They're covered in blood and dirt, just like the zombies. However unlike this video, I don't think the soldiers should leave the roads, this would make it impossible to avoid them and being shot in the middle of nowhere.

It's also good to hear the human AI is this good. As for the difficulty of killing them - I think they'd be soldiers with training, they'd try manoeuvres such as flanking right? Regarding the use of vehicles, I don't think we should make vehicles easier to obtain, even if they are soldiers, the idea is that they're ragged and worn down, these guys retreated when shit hit the fan, they only have their default gear and things they've obtained whilst travelling. Does the current AI also include talking? Maybe idle talk whilst their walking about the zombies etc?

As for your similar idea, it sounds very resident evil. I don't think the government would endorse mass killing of uninfected people without the use of a tactical nuclear device. Chernaraus would be nothing but radioactive dust if the Czech government still existed. No, I think that the governments of the world were overrun too quickly, just like in 28 days later. I think it should be ordinary soldiers who are just scared shitless of the infected and have seen the worst of things that can happen. Think about the soldiers in 28 Days Later, they want to rape those women because they haven't got any. Of course things like this would happen. Heavily armed guys like soldiers would probably even become roving gangs of trained bandits. Hence why they should shoot on sight anything that moves. I would like to suggest they take hostages, but it would be a very high expectation.

I do like the idea of more random occurances like this. Perhaps the patrol could spawn and wander about the map, cleaning up Zeds and players alike as they go.

More random spawns like the heli crashes as well. The odd crashed Ambulance, Food truck or even tank. Limitless options really.

I see roads littered with broken vehicles - it would be nice to see items in the trunks or even just on the back of pickups etc. Atm they're just boring props :(

I was actually thinking that these NWO enemy were real players. You get smoother gameplay when you steer away from AI and actual players are much better to fight against. The reason for my post is that I feel a strong urge not to KOS as do a HUGE portion of the DayZ playerbase. But it will never ever stop. ;) So I feel its better to make the game to where there is a story behind the crazy things that are happening.Someone can make up some better stuff as this is just a quick thought on it.

The reason for the masks is to differentiate bandits from survivors but with a story behind it and does not have to be gas masks. The story is that bad people want control in this new lawless world.Like in 28 days later how the gang made a strong hold as their base. These marauders could be out to force control in the new world. So NWO or new world order as slang for them.Just a bunch of psychopaths with a control agenda. You spawn a mask then you say to the world that you are with the NWO.This could open up the game to a huge amount of unique skins with not only bandits looking kool but plain survivors could get excellent skins themselves.

There will not be NPCs in this game. It has been stated there will be none.

Well, if you could provide evidence of this that would be great. Otherwise I've no reason to believe you.

If there is evidence, then perhaps you misinterpreted what was said. Rocket has a way of misconstruing himself.

i understand the intentions behind you're idea, but i think this is the wrong approach. an alternative idea that would still return a similar result, is having a higher population density (ie. smaller map), and some random, isolated zed spawns.
