Will familiarity kill this mod?

And once again, the answer as it always is:

This is an Alpha

There's going to be a lot more stuff coming in the future.

Can't wait to see a new map, that hasn't been memorized yet. Something brand new for people to discover.

Might even get a way to keep small areas cleared of zombies, or other cool things like that. :)

I dont know about that idea... I mean if you run for a hour or two to get a decent rifle and at the same time risk your life for it.

It doesn't feel very rewarding if you have to find a shitload of stuff to repair it with.

Besides good weapons tend to have very limited ammo anyway.

I think however the coast could be tweaked a bit so there are a bit more random equipment there. For example there seems to be shitload of ammo for Winchester.

Would be nice if it got reduced and more added ammo for colt' date=' remmington, g17, crossbow etc...

Well, from what I've seen, not everyone is risking their lives for it. Most of the time, groups of bandits set up shop in these locations and set up what is essentially a military gear cartel.

What I'm looking to do is decentralize the supply of the best gear, thereby leveling the playing field a little.

Getting a military grade weapon from military locations would still be viable. But you'd have to look around a bit for the parts you need to make use of it. And someone who regularly trawls towns and farms would eventually be able to put together his own military grade item.

I think the solution is to add tons more potential spawn points for gear but heavily randomise what appears at them. 9/10 nothing will be there, occasionally some ammo or food and rarely a weapon. Have military grade stuff have a very small chance of spawning in the place of any other weapon. This way you are forced to explore to find the good gear as it could literally be anywhere.

It's not unrealistic before anyone says anything about that. The military wouldn't all have been holed up in their bases, they could have ended up taking shelter anywhere when the shit hit the fan. For specialised items that couldn't possibly be found in these spots they could have special spawn points to themselves, but still have a very low chance of appearing at a particular one.

You raise a good point. I'm confident that as the game develops these problems will be addressed.

If this is ever made into a retail game I think the best solution would be randomized locations. By that I mean island and its terrain remains largely the same, but roads and towns are randomly placed each time the server resets. That way you'll always have to explore and you'll actually need to use that in game map rather than cheating with your browser.

I highly doubt anything like that will be possible in a mod, and I don't know how else to fix the problem, other than greatly randomizing loot spawns.

The real hook of this game isn't content. --tho content will come.

The hook is persistance..., the holy grail of online gaming.

MMO's do it thru paid subs. A model that excludes most pc gamers.

A free mod offering this is a new take on the idea.

An idea any gamer with the pc specs and a arma file can play.

Russians play this game. Ever ask why?

I think it's because Russians don't have money for crap. They play Arma because the platform give value for money. It always has.

What were we talking about?

I know a lot of the map and all of the areas. However, I also play with a group which I believe increases the playability of the game.

We make goals for ourselves and once we've completed a goal we find a next goal.

It's true that sooner or later we will have completed most of our goals, but even if so new content will be created soon enough and we'll be back out.

It also took a year to make with a full team working on it, so all you guys that have never played ArmA before that say you want a totally new map............. well best get cracking because I seriously doubt Rocket is working on one.

Duala is also a great map from the same creator but the buildings aren't all that great. Many are from Chernarus.

I think a new map is unnecessary. The current one is so big that with more dynamic behaviour the replayability would be pretty much endless.

There needs to be an objective other than surviving, but it shouldn't be anything scripted or non-player driven. Something like building, maintaining and defending a base of sandbag walls, tents and machine gun emplacements. Or you know, maybe something more interesting, so long as it is player-driven.

I pretty much stopped playing, because theres no real goal. It became way too boring.

Dont give me the "you must survive or something hurr" bullshit.

This mod needs more stuff, and ill wait for that. Currently looking for a clan to play Ace/acre (whatever, wanna try it) now.

spawn -> go to hospital -> head to stary -> either camp stary and kill whoever comes or kill the people already camping it (always someone) -> get bored and head to NW airfield -> clear it out with friends -> loot pile barracks -> get silenced M4s, NVGs, rangefinders, medium machine guns, high caliber snipers -> go to the coast and kill newbies out of boredom -> look for vehicles -> find none -> go kill more newbies out of boredom

this is basically how it goes for me and my friends

Sandbags and wire are gonna be implemented better (don't even have the sandbags yet). Eventually it will be possible to organize some sort society somewhere and the game dynamic will change.

I'm not bored with it yet, but I also don't have the time to play like 8 hours a day everyday like a shit ton of people are doing.

I have confidence Rocket can get it there.

I do feel it's becoming a bit stale with the same spawn points.

If I need a rifle, I know to find a white barn.

If I want to completely stock up, I find a common general store.

I do wish the item spawns were random across the map. I know it would be insanely difficult.

Well' date=' Im no designer, but..

tier it. make it so its simply next to impossible to GET such gear. make it so its almost like tiered progression.

you HAVE to hit outlying farms to get winchester etc in order to hit towns to get other bits, in order to hit military bases.

make it so you cant just go from A > F you must progress from A>B>C>D>E>F through ramping difficulty, this can be achieved by adding new Zed types? maybe ones that require X more damage, or faster. or tankier, you get the idea. make it so you cannot just sneak in and get the phat loots.

Dis.

So dis.

Wouldn't be too hard to make airports off limits, if all the zombs were military and required a headshot to bring down. (minus a few high powered weapons for body shots)

btw that jungle map is incredible

I don't think it will kill due to what the players choose to play like. I'm going the route of not using maps of other players out of game unless it's a blank map like the one ingame.

IMHO

I think its lame you only can find good loot in NW airfield. They should put more of those medic bases around the map, with good gear on it.
