Sup DayZ staff.

Firstly i want to say that DayZ is awesome for me. I really get enormous pleasure of it.

Even when i`m shot from behind its ok coz its part of scenario and its my mistake. Danger and tension makes the game so great.

But what really ruin ambiance and discourages continue to play is server switching abuse. Such behavior beyond the mechanics of the game is doom for roleplayers.

Just imagine bandit in the city who fires a clip, without fear of reacting walkers, leaves the game, goes to another server where he reloads the weapon and moves to another position. Then he comes back to my server, shooting at me from where I do not expect, and quit before walkers can get him. The only way to survive is run as fast as u can from that place getting agro all dozens zombies while griefer is in "stealth".

I do not Noah, but at the time of this writing, I do not have any desire to go back into the game knowing how big an advantage of players who don`t restrict themselves with role-playing game style is.

So the only thing i want to know: do developers have plans to prevent such awful abuse in future versions?

Of course, the game is still in Alpha. A few things have been tried, but they haven't found a good solution yet.

You have to remember that this is still in Alpha and is only a mod, it has limitations.

This is a well known issue and is being worked on. Just give it time and a solution will be released for this in a later patch.

But yes I have to agree that it's very frustration when a player does this.

Though this is still in Alpha, I am not sure how this problem will be solved.

I mean lets look at the solutions:

Logging in within 100m to another player would give you a timer/not allow you to log in until that person has move on. Seems legit right? What if that person is AFK? What if your group all logged out in the same spot and you're trying to play together? Or what if once you log in, you will be looking for that person since he is only 100m away.

Another idea is to disallow logging out inside buildings, though it would not fix the "server hopping behind players" issue per se, it would stop people from server hopping barracks/AT/FH in the NWAF mostly. It would not stop serverhoppers altogether, but it would make their life much more difficult as they would have to log outside said buildings and then risk their asses getting back in.

Well that's enough of my ideas ;)

Why if not to let players to return to same server for some time (half an hour) if they logged in at another server recently?

PS: sorry for my english =)

that would be good, but what if you have camps on multiple servers - backup camps, or simply if you've big enough clan

It's called ghosting in DayZ, admins ban for it, but only if they catch the cheaters in the act.

Hopefully ghosting and server hopping will get some much needed attention in a patch soon.

My favorite fix is to completely reset your location if you log on two different servers too quickly (say within 10-15 minutes). It slows down server hopping for loot, and it makes ghosting like the OP mentioned pretty hard to pull off.

Well, i like the presistant character design.. not being forced to a single server.

An idea would be that if you're currently considered "in combat" you cant log out (think mmos and such)

With an added 10 seconds logout time you'd have to lose any zombies.

People would still be able to jump from server to server if they're in the middle of nowhere where no zombie has heard them though, no idea how coding player vs player into this "combat model"

I think just a hard 10s timer upond DC/Alt + F4 is needed. That would solve all combat DC issues

So what event will take player in combat in fps?

that would be good, but what if you have camps on multiple servers - backup camps, or simply if you've big enough clan

I guess 15 min cd on logging back after visiting another server should not be a problem even for big enough clan.

1 hour timeout if you change server (you cannot login in the previous server for 1 hour.. so you cannot reposition to have an unfair advantage).

Having multiple camps on different servers.. and continuosly hopping server by server? This is not a fucking SciFi movie, there's no teletrasportation, you're not supposed to exploit the game mechanics jumping crazy on another server to stock your tent, then come back, then do it again... Mr.Scott!

i am sure they are working their arses off to solve the server hoping abuse...but i am also sure that this is not easy to solve...i mean, if i get punished for disconnecting and connecting again in a few minutes; and i never used server hoping. and got disconnect for like PC crash, or my connection dropped...or coz i found out that my friends are on different server and i wont to join them...that is a big problem too...Honestly i don’t have an idea how the DayZ dev team can solve this :(..but I have full confidence in Rocket and the team, so soon we can expect some changes..GL&HF

They could try having the hive detect the last few servers the person was connected to within the last 10 - 20 minutes.

So example is player is in Server A then leaves to join server B, within a few minutes the player has left server B and trying to connect back to Server A.

The hive detects that this player was on Server A within the last 10 minutes and has since logged into a different server so blocks that player access the server for a set amount of time.

I think this combined with a logout timer would be a pretty good way to stop ghosting and DCing in combat.

Still wouldn't stop people who server hop farming loot and also not sure how much extra strain this would put on the hive.

If you fire your gun, use your hatchet, throw a grenade or perform some other aggressive act you have a log out delay. If you are attacked by any of the above, you have a log out delay (unless your killed).

Tie it to the weapon, anyone near a discharged weapon, grenade or used object is affected by it. Range of 2K should do it.

I think that i'm the only player that has never run into this before, i usually stay up north alot to avoid the RIDICULOUS traffic that main cities get. What i have run into a few times is players combat logging. A few scenarios where me and my friends ran into this at Stary Sobor

#1 I was prone under a tree overlooking the Stary military tents with my buddies nearby in the treeline in case a shot i made wasn't lethal or something. What sounded like some sort of AK weapon goes off some distance behind me (i estimate around 25-50m away from me) and the trunk of the tree takes the hits as my friends move into the treeline he was located in he seemingly vanished into thin air. I wasn't that frustrated, he did miss and i got to live for another 5 minutes

#2 Occured just after #1 after my friends discovered he had vanished we went back to our positions and shortly after i spot a player leaving the camp through the treeline. We chase him to the field beyond and he is shot multiple times, he was some distance away and we managed to break his legs leaving him rolling away from us. As i'm scoped on him and about to take a shot he also disappears. Now this time i am pissed off reason being we've now just announced our location to every player and Z in the area which resulted in my death and almost the loss of my m24

#3 after raiding Stary me and the same friend are leaving from what i remember to be the Northern hill when i spot movement in the top left of my screen. Turned out to be two players: one was an overwatch while the other moved to raid the camp. After a good amount of stealth and patience we finally move into position behind the overwatch and before we get the chance to ruin his evening he vanishes, another one that kind of pissed me off.

Sorry for the somewhat long post but thought i would share some of my experiences with combat D/C. Still one of the best games i think i've owned so far
