katulobotomia 26 Posted July 12, 2012 (edited) I don't know if anything has changed, but the fullmoon nights are extremely bright now. I loved the realistic dark nights in DayZ before 1.7.5. Played last night on a night server and wanted to use the cover of the night for my advantage, but the entire world was lit almost like it was broad daylight. The dark nights where you need a light source to move around were really atmospheric and reminded me of wilderness in the LapLand where I grew up in, nights that get so dark you are practically completely blind without a torch and no cities to light-pollute the sky. The fullmoon light intensity at most is 0.27 lux, while a candlelight is around 10-20 lux. A full bright moon should illuminate the environment 74 times LESS than a candle would illuminate a room, currently the full moon at night is like a second sun.I miss realistic dark nights. Zeromentor 169 Posted July 12, 2012 The devs messed with the tone of light for nighttime so it isn't as pitch black dark without the moon.Seriously, without the moon (no moonlight) the area is literally one shade of black. Brightness and gamma turned all the way up makes it a single shade of grey. No blue, white, or anything else. Just 1 color. With the moon out, it is brighter, yes. But it is closer to reality for me than it was before.I live out in a fairly rural area just north of a city, so the light of the city doesn't really bother us here. But I can see pretty well at night in real life. In this game, I need a full moon just to get it close.
xarok777@gmail.com 205 Posted July 12, 2012 Don't know where in Lapland you grew up in, but in reality if there is a moon out, its incredibly easy to see in the open.

Zeromentor 169 Posted July 12, 2012 Some time ago every 2nd thread was OMGOMG THE NIGHT IS TOO DAMN DARK!!!! and now OMGOMG THE NIGHT IS TOO DAMN BRIGHT!!!11Are you fking kidding me.Rule of the thirds. One third hates it, One Third Likes it and the last third doesn't care. The groups move around, but there is always three groups unless you really mess something up. But having people content (the third that doesn't care) and another group happy means you are winning.Debate them, leave them with your opinion or ignore them. Your choice.
WhiteTigerShiro 25 Posted July 12, 2012 Not sure how often you go out at night, but a Full Moon is BRIGHT. Seriously, there have been nights where you'd almost think it's still daytime were it not midnight.

poMONKey (DayZ) 16 Posted July 12, 2012 When the real moon is full ... I can easily drive my car without the headlights on. So, why wouldnt you be able to see clearly ( albeit in B&W ) when the moon is full over Chenarus?? Looks pretty spot on to me ...
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted July 12, 2012 Going to have to disagree on your assessment of "realistic" nights.Having grown up in what is essentially wilderness (13km to the nearest major town) and spent many nights playing outside after sunset, I can assure you a moon past half does act as a "second sun."Color becomes muted and obviously in the forest there is less light - but open fields or hillsides are lit and easily visible from long distances. Moving objects, including humans, would not be obscured.

WhiteTigerShiro 25 Posted July 13, 2012 To the devs......if you change things let us know.Agreed x10. It amazes me how often developers will leave things out of the patch notes because they felt it was "too minor to be worth mention" despite all the times that people have complained about a change they noticed that wasn't mentioned in the patch notes because the developer felt it was too minor to be worth mention. Captain Q 3 Posted July 13, 2012 There's another problem with the game too- the zombies are too dead for my tastes. Real zombies aren't that dead, I don't think.
L0G!N (DayZ) 149 Posted July 13, 2012 I think you are just 'unlucky' to catch a night with hardly any clouds, because a couple of nights ago when i was playing it first was pitch dark (before the moon came up, and with pitch i mean the whole screen was basically black), then when the moon came through it improved, but as soon as clouds came before the moon it was what i would call 'night time' dark on a non full moon... add some rain to that and your screen turns to black with stripes of grey and 5m visibility ... so i think it's perfect now, and if there is a full moon and the sky is clear, it's like wearing sunglasses on a sunny day... jetao2008@hotmail.com 175 Posted July 13, 2012 You can always switch server for one without the full moon i believe.I had a lot of fun in a server i played a few days ago, it was night with a full moon, it was dark but we could see stuff, really scary and amazing. dallas 5195 Posted July 13, 2012 I don't know if anything has changedThe lunar cycle changes the moon.Full moon is bright, remember the entire moon is refelcting sunlight down to the dark side of Earth. While the new moon is not, most of the shiney part of the moon is covered by Earth's shadow. vinss 21 Posted July 13, 2012 Moonlight is bright. On island where i live you can read newspaper on full moonlight once your eyes get adjusted. That part is missing ingame as actualy one can blind you for few seconds if flashing light into your eyes
DeadManDan 23 Posted July 13, 2012 I just wish they'd do the whole sky rotation and moon phases to affect brightness at night according to actual date/time. And possibly add changes to ai behavior on nights of the full moon :>
tomany 7 Posted July 13, 2012 i agree with most people here, i live in a relatively small town (45000 people) and in the middle of the night, even on a half moon, there is enough light to see a cat walking across the sreet about 300M away... the full moon could go a bit darker, next time you are in a night server with a full moon, do me a favour, turn the brightness in your game to 0.9, and gamma to 0.8 that is what a half moon looks like where i live... than again, there isnt much polution where i live either, and with what i've seen for buildings and cars around chernarus, there would be less polution to block the light there, than in my small town...
