well im new here i did buy the game yesterday and i heard you had a weapon when you did spawn before.

revolver --> makarov --> nothing

well what i think that the best thing is that you get an axe or something where you can hit someone atleast.

Sorry but I don't agree, as I've made a point of before, starting with nothing makes you realize the value of the items which you find and collect later on in the game. :-/ It's far more realistic this way. I don't carry an axe in my bag in real life... maybe I should, better safe than sorry..

Schockie's grammar makes no sense so let me explain what he's trying to say!

If your home and a zombie virus breaks out and people are starting to turn into zombies then what would you do? Run without an item out of house? You take an Axe or a bat, a spoon if needed. That's what he means. I doesn't make sense cause you spawn at the coast.

The point of starting with nothing is to make you suitably afraid of the zombies.

If you started with a weapon all new players would just assume that you are meant to go killing instead of just avoiding & trying to survive.

^ What he said. Also - of course it is realistic. I'm talking about everyday life, I don't carry a weapon with me to school or to go shopping. If I went out normally with my friends and halfway through the day an infection of this type began I would not be armed, that's what I'm saying. So in this case who is to say (seeing as you spawn randomly on the coast) that your character has in any way prepared beforehand for a situation like this. It's more like waking up on the shore after you were washed up (maybe people on the mainland were evacuated, but some people carrying the infection got on-board - causing chaos and your rescue ship to go down... just trying to set the scene here. ) You'd wake up with no real recollection of how you got there or what is going on, and of course you wouldn't have been prepared for this to happen so now you need to do your best to survive and find stuff to help you do so. Not a lot of people ''expect the unexpected'' to THAT degree.

a virus won't get every one infected in 1 day.

if you have pain killers and bandages or what ever then you know that there is a virus broken out.

i don't carrie every day those stuff not even a light.

it's not realistic that you have nothing even can't use your fists

I think a Good solution would be to add in Doom Style Flashlight Melee and replace the gaudy yellow plastic flashlight with a heavy Maglight. if you have ever seen the LAPD interacting with a Minority suspect than you know that those things can do some damage. it is REALISTIC and BALLANCED. so there goes the troll logic counter argument

i love it how in games like this people hide behind the realism excuse when someone wants to implement an overpowered idea but at the same time they are quick to abandon the realism argument when god forbid realistic unarmed combat could possibly make the game easier oh the horror. make up your minds guys Realism or Unreal ism.

it is not realistic if you start with really nothing this is an example what happend.

there is a virus broken out bla bla bla guy is preparing hes self with pain killers and bandages and he found something garage like an axe or something else what's not realistic on it.

Side effects of not starting with a gun

1: most players who dont start at a main town repeatedly kill themselfs untill they do as its pointless to start anywhere else due to the crappy supplys near other starting locations.

2: most players run into buildings and just run around towns zombies are just a pain but easy to lose, if they get pk'd they just repeat on a dif server with less players untill they get the equipment they need to get started.

3: Its much easyer to kill new players who have just started the game.

4: Higher levels of player killing for starting guns via Axes and bows that seem to be everywhere.

5: More deaths at spawn due to zombies still close spawning.

I fail to see how the player has "survived" untill the land is in this poor state with nothing on them.

My suggestion - you start with nothing. No backpack, no bandage, no weapon. You spawn on a beach - i think this would imply you washed up ashore. At least thats what i assume.

I agree with DemonGroover, the less handouts we get at the start of the game, the better. :)

Shockie I agree about the fists, we should be able to use them and I've said that before as well, seeing as if you WERE unarmed you would use your hands to push away something trying to bite your face off, punch it, heck - kick it. Flashlight melee - perhaps, seeing as in previous threads people have said there are issues with programming hand-to-hand use, or something along those lines since it isn't in the base game.. That being said, I still do not agree with spawning with a weapon. Stealth is my weapon, and I've managed to do fine so far.

Just sneak past the zed and you'll do fine..

I think the game need to find a balance. Obviously the revolver was too strong, the makarov lead to spawn killing and now that there are no guns I think its more balanced. Although within an hour or less you can gear up with some of the best weapons in the game.

You suggestion with spawning with a weapon might be a good idea if, for example they reduced the spawn rate of military grade weapons or weapons in general therefore your starting weapon will be valued more highly and then it would be feasible to add it back in. But right now, its still pretty easy to gear up so no I don't believe they should add a starting weapon at the moment.

*Note* this is still an Alpha, be patient with the game, they're still testing/making mistakes/adding things in etc.
