KA-74USER 39 Posted October 19 many posters here, and people who have been playing dayz much longer than me have been vehement about this update being good and right for dayz. I want to ask what about the changes are making you enjoy the game more? not in any smartass or bitter way, but im genuinely curious to hear what has been more fun about this compared to Dayz a year ago? some key points... most of all I want to know WHAT people like about the frequency of needing water and fires as it is right now. 1
KA-74USER 39 Posted October 19 from my perspective I think the inventory changes are just annoying, I always traveled light but it never bothered me to see players with a full inventory. I didnt think of it as unfair because of the trade off being stamina and mobility. heavy players were easy to catch up and even easier to kill because of the lack of stamina, my advantage was having a full stamina bar and trading off for light resources, it felt really fair and like two distinct playstyles. i always kept a full stamina bar, never wore a bag or vest, so my playstyle is alot harder now without the extra carrying space. now the heavy guys arent happy carrying less, and im not happy having to wear bags and vests to carry more (because they add to/ slow down your turning radius and noise made), so... whos happy with it?? other than the type of person who thinks players were "spoiled" or "unrealistic" with the old system, who is this for? how does the change even affect gameplay? thats why the change just seems arbitrary and punitive to me.
KA-74USER 39 Posted October 19 (edited) as for the water system i cant even picture why anyone would prefer food not giving water. its not realistic to die from dehydration in like 3 hours game time i just cant empathize with or understand the design choice, let alone why a player would prefer it. it turned the vital meters into such a short timer, when i picture the game in my head i just picture running from fountain to fountain, and not doing anything else, i just have that picture in my mind of my experiences so far and now i cant be stand to play the game all together. its not fun to feel this 10 minute timer breathing down my neck. and the heavy metal poisoning is the biggest cop out ever. the way to have a winter map without the players having unlimited water is to make eating snow lower the players health/ temp so fast it would have to be in emergency's only to resort to it. not this super niche disease, it just breaks immersion, its snowing ALL the time and the snow is coming off the ocean, your telling me the snow is instantly contaminated from the moment it touches the ground? no fresh layer of snow? wheres the poison coming from? the factory thats been unmanned as long as we've been on this island? im pretty sure namalsk just had eating snow freeze your player so much it was only useful for a few handfuls before you had to stop warm up etc. so who wants to step up and tell me why theyve had more fun with the new water system... i know dayz isnt supposed to be fun in the sun, but if the whole game was a water quest nobody would play it. im more here for the online elements than the survival ones. id never play this janky old mess if it was single player only survival game. It seems to be a survival based update, so it seems reasonable you're dissatisfied. I'm enjoying things so far. I felt the game was more shooty PVP than it was survival, so the shift in balance is welcomed.
etwas 138 Posted October 20 everything that slows the character progession a bit down is more than welcome. the vanilla loot table is still a piece of cake, but it got a bit better over the years. i think the loot economy is still a weak part in the vanilla game, specially now on sakhal and still on livonia. (specially shotguns and its ammo, scopes, high/best insulation clothes, the heavy amount of canned food - all in tier 1 players spawn zones. cherno has a tier 4 zone around the townhall... WHY?). i would like to see more restrictions, like not being able to pick stuff from inside your backpack, until u drop it or put it in your hands. the inventory should simply be hidden while u carry it on your back. food, water, cold was never a problem for me personally in the vanilla game. at some point u could roam for hours without consuming anything. Sid Debian 132 Posted October 20 I just don't give a hecck and made my own mod that's reverting the changes, but Ive done it at DZ 1.04 and just don't cares about "tweaks", "upgrades" and to be clear just not matter how it called by anyone. To be honest I can understand that useless cry about new update. Dislike new chages - delete DayZ and don't start it again. Dislike inventory shrink - find the community servers that has no that inventory shrinks and fitted to you and play there. But again, what's purpose to cry on the moon? The moon isn't cares about your cries... Assept or search alternatives or leave, from the simple check wveryone has 3 different chooses, what's the problem, folks? caik 122 Posted October 21 I’ve really enjoyed the added challenge of reduced capacity slots. I’ve avoided picking up a gas stove and canister until I find a pot because I can’t justify the 12 slots for something useless. Same with a lot of items. And this seems to help loot distribution (for now) as spawn locations aren’t picked clean straight away, like when you find dead zeds at a military and it’s still got some loot.. It’s also forced me to plan ahead for stashed storage via a sea chest. I also like that everyone has been slowed down, not so much of a race to fix cars or build a base. You’ve only got capacity to loot for one or the other. I haven’t really noticed the water change, I’m generally always all white and prepared to keep it that way. Can’t be doing with the sickness, cause it becomes a chore and everyone should be aiming for 95% immune system whatever the food/hydration settings. Apologies if that’s not what you wanted to hear but I’m a dayz fanboy, nothing else comes close, the adrenaline and immersion is where it’s at! See you on the coast. residuum 1 Posted October 25 I like these updates because they seem to have the intention to increase player interaction. If players need water more often, most of them will be at wells/springs more often and are then more likely to meet another player. If players need to warm up more often, they will make fires more often which will attract players to the smoke. I see many new players on Reddit and YouTube who watch streamers and expect there to be more player interaction than has been typical. I know I have played on full servers and not seen players for hours.

Unless that's what you meant by "player interactions".

While I agree with this (partially, I had a lot of good interactions in sakhal early game) I don't think KOSing is bad. KOSing happens mostly because it's easy to turn on someone and because there is no other threat other than players. Zombies need to be better and shooting a player should require patience (pre-0.63 gunplay) instead of the current quickscoping gameplay where you can just do a 180 and turn on someone. Ammo should also be a scarce resource so that people think twice about shooting someone. Edited November 4 by DefectiveWater
