My Thoughts

I know it is only Beta, to start off on a positive note, like Arma, Dayz is visually stunning.  I want to believe the game has all the potential in the world, but now here comes my hammer.

The bugs are horrendous, can't pull a magazine out of a weapon unless you have and extra mag, clipping with hair from basic headwear goes right thru, nighttime you can't see anything even with torches, flashlights, light sources, obviously the sickness and illness system will come but what is the point when half the stuff doesn't work, you can't even craft a fishing pole with a rope and longstick, let alone make a bow, the choices are so limited on what you can craft, there isn't much in terms of versatility.   The weapons seems so lack luster compared to the Alpha version where did they all go? 

Where is the theme music?  Spruce it up, make me feel some friggin terror instead of yawning most of the time.

There are no where near enough zombies, it often seems desolate, sure when they have numbers they can hurt you, but there is no rewards for risks so why even fight them? When you do fight zombies, it boils down to fighting them one on one.  I usually just shut a door in a house and take them out one at a time.  They don't crawl thru windows, pound down doors.  When I usually die, it's because they warp all over the place, get stuck halfway thru the ground, randomly spawn in mass, it's generally the bugs.  There are no interesting, horrifying or challenging experiences with the zombies at all.  They are generic, boring and have no special twist.  The wiping out of zombies often seems repetitive, they are all one in the same.  You can't set booby trap or do anything unique to change it up and when you do take on large groups and finish them all, often a Player will come finish you when your depleted and exhausted and you ask yourself, why did I even fight the zombies, I should stay and just hide.

There seems no end game or place to go with your player, gather your gear, die, rinse and repeat, I don't develop any attachments to my characters at all.  When they die I just start over and once I've horded some basic gear, I find myself bored with nothing to do.

The process of bug fixing usually involves fixing bugs knowing that you will create other ones.  You iron out the wrinkles but create more in the process.  This is natural.  Fix three bugs, create two.  Repeat the process until there are no more bugs.  That's how it works.

Zombies are part of the environment.  Is it even possible to scale balancing of zeds versus your gear set? Probably not in a huge sandbox.  This is a fundamental hurdle that open world sandbox MMOs have had for decades.  You can't make zombies difficult for fully geared players because they will totally overwhelm a fresh spawn.  Further, zeds are completely trivial, rightfully so, when you start grouping up with friends/others.  Survival, zombies, and all things not related to player versus player in a open world sandbox will never reach a 'challenging' level in the vanilla experience.

Theme music so you feel terror? wut?  If you're not feeling terror then you're probably not on servers with higher populations.  Just an assumption.

Tigerhaswood did not ask for a lesson about how bugfixing works...he was talking about the current state of the game...and the current state simply is buggy, unpolished and unballanced as fuck ! We all know that the devs working hard on fixing the game for their planned 1.0 release and we all are hoping for the best but as it looks right now the game is in an horrible not playable state !

 As far as it goes for Zeds...calling them rightfully trivial is honestly the biggest bullshit that I've ever read here on the forums. Everybody his mother and their goat knows that the Zombie/Infected aspect of this so called Zombie Survival game sucks. Deans idea of the infected was heavily inspired by 28 days/weeks later and I would absolutely recommend to watch these movies to get an idea of how infected should look like and how scary and dangerous they should be....

If done right we would not even need large numbers of the infected especially since this would require a complete different more Romero style type of Zombies. For me it seemed since the very beginning that there is no one in the dev team that is really into the whole Zombie thing :/  theyare implemeting them because...they have too..that's it.

And yeah some music at least when beginnig or ending the game would be cool...the soundtrack of the mod was really iconic btw  so +1 from my side

Please, please, please, no music. If you want it, put Aphex Twin's "Ambient Volume 2" on in the background....

Being largely a solo player, because they can glitch through walls and seem to spawn in right on top of you, as a fully geared player I've died to zeds twice in this patch (which is a bit embarrassing tbh). "Trivial", they're not.

Try playing ambient music in the background over youtube, for example the Stalker ambient music, or resident evil ambients, i personally don't think DayZ should have music, since the slightest bit of it would make you miss important sound queues like shots in the distance and zombie or player step sounds

I disagree.  I find the beta release so far to be quite enjoyable.  I've been busy for many hours.  I've found plenty to do and have plenty more to do.  Absolutely playable.

Devs have stated before that the infected are part of the environment.  Human players will always be able to outsmart and outmanuever AI, all day long.  Maybe you'll be the one to prove this wrong.  lol.

Dean is incredibly naive.  Who creates a simulation as a social experiment in a sandbox where breaking morals has no actual consequence?  Permadeath in Dayz died years and years ago.  There's no repercussions FOR ANYTHING!  DayZ is so far away from that terrible vision.  And no, I'm not watching some movie to find out what you think zombies should be like.

There's decades worth of NPCs in sandbox MMOs, which aren't instanced, that can't be scaled, as evidence of why they're trivial.  If, theoretically, zombies ever get to a point where they're scary, you just group up with more friends.  Boom.  Instantly trivial again.  Zombies cannot be balanced so that they're challenging.  Go do some research.  Get over your case of "the supposestas'".

Yea, like you have some well tested evidence on how it is done right?  Why on earth would they have to?  They don't.  That's absurd.

 

If you think that zombies aren't trivial then you're simply just terrible at video games.  Even as a solo player, you can take your AK into NWAF, start shooting, attract a horde of AI, and not die.

From your last paragraph i think even if they fix music and zeds you will still be bored with the game. There is no end-game and the game don't force you to do anything, you need to set your own goals.
