proton-235 1 Posted November 29, 2018 hi i just bought the yukon 5x60 night vision monocular and i thought it would be nice to have a civilian type of night vision in the game. (i'm new to dayz so i don't know much of the night vision assets of the game, i'll delete if this treath is unapropriate)
cirkular 178 Posted December 1, 2018 Don't bother with deleting the thread. Nothing to worry about. That might be a good suggestion actually. Since only high tech military geared players will have night vision, it might be good to counterbalance the situation of geared players running into towns killing relatively fresh players during nights. But I think both should be very rare items to find anyway.

But I think both should be very rare items to find anyway. i don't know about that, the civilian NV version could be rather popular, especially for hunters, in Chernarus and regularly found on deer stands since you wouldn't be able to run around very effectively with them, they could be a spotting tool when stationary or walking, and wouldn't be useable when running Edited December 3, 2018 by ZomboWTF
Sqeezorz 839 Posted December 3, 2018 It depends on how they work. Civil Night Scene is usually based on "low light amplification" or "infrared view", which means that you just see something better. The military models often use the "thermal imaging technology" which gives extreme advantages especially at night. (you can almost protect yourself only by removing heat emissions -> go swimming and start to freeze ^^ and even that is not reliable) ... and do not fire your weapon... shots make your weapon visible (heat the barrel)

Seems IMO that DayZ has always has real problems with "rare" . Despite various iterations of loot economy, players who WANT them have never had problems stockpiling "rare" items. Anyone who decides they want "object X" can get themselves one inside 1 play session, or maybe 2.. Going right back to something Dean Hall said off the cuff, a LONG time ago.. if you play on Official servers (or servers all on one shard), then JUST ONE example of an object somewhere on FIVE servers.. THAT would be "rare".. and no other examples would spawn anywhere on those 5 servers until that ONE was destroyed. If someone picks up an object and puts it in their backpack or leaves that server, or stashes it in a tent (and so it's outside the "loot economy" for the server) and another one spawns to take it's place.. then that object cant be "rare".. After a week or so, anyone who wants one WILL have one. * We saw this happen with weapons.. to slow the proliferation of mil ranged weapons, because however "rare" you make them, they keep right on spawning every time someone picks one up - to slow that down, AMMO was made rarer, because it is expendable and takes itself out of the game, so you ALWAYS have to find more.. so reducing ammo spawns was intended to make "ranged weapons" less easy to equip, because the ammo always gets picked up as fast as it spawns... but that didn't work NOTICEABLY real good, did it? at least it didn't change much... "Common" means you'll find it in an hour or less - "Rare" means you'll find it in 4 hours or less. BUT - if you know where to look, "Rare" comes down to usually under an hour or two, same as Common.. And we know that on 60-player FULL servers, EXACTLY NOBODY is looking for "rare" gear.. they already geared up on other servers and they come to the 60-full just for the fight. So "rare" is a term that should be used really CAREFULLY in DayZ. Their ain't no such a thing, as far as I can tell.. just "very common", "common", "relatively common" and "no big problem if you know where to look" xxp Edited December 3, 2018 by pilgrim* ~
cirkular 178 Posted December 3, 2018 @ZomboWTF I was just thinking that it might break the night time gameplay immersion somewhat. It should be scary, or if not that, you'd be using a light source when you need it the most only. I had some of best night time sessions in some earlier versions. I guess that's on point @pilgrim* About the civilian night vision, I assumed it's more common in the western world, for hunters for example. Don't know much about that. Being a fictional post-soviet country probably affected my assumption that those should be rare. Anyway, I don't know if they thought of doing it with a timer, on those rare items at least... Like setting a range from 3 to 12 hours or 3-7 days until respawning again... oh well.

They only spawned in one vehicle, and only respawned when the server was reset - but sooner or later everyone had them (who wanted them). The effect at night was like heavy shadowed daylight with a hard green tint, but you soon got used to wearing them all the time in darkness. You could see distances, drive, and fly helicopters wearing them, no problem. They were in the game - everybody used them. By today's SA standards they were "difficult" to get hold of because only ONE pair would spawn for each server reset, (found in just one heli that spawned at different places) but that came down to having to play 2 or 3 or even 5 sessions before you were lucky enough to find a pair. Or steal them off someone else, natch. I dont know if a region like chernarus would have many civilian night vision goggles or (more likely) hunting scopes.. they exist but they are highly expensive, and really not that great. Infra Red goggles are cheaper, but not that great also, for different reasons .. Check youtube for examples, there are plenty. Infra Red goggles would fit the game better than true night vision amplifiers, IMO, because they only show the heat shapes, so you wouldn't be able to tell if it's another player or a zombie, for instance - and your vision in houses or forests would be totally crap. That might be interesting as an alternative to a head torch.

You observe the pattern of movement and quickly discern an AI-infected from another player. Well, whatever the variant is possible, I guess it'll be in the game sooner or later, but right now I only care for the good balance, loot economy wise. My bet is on both those light amplifier ones and infra-red, maybe one type as US army helicopter loot, the other Chernarussian forces or Russian helicopter. Hopefuly, you'd be able to combat this advantage at some level of success with creating light that would be just too much for the goggle wearer.
