is there any difference in the different players you can spawn as? or are the differences purely cosmetic?

Purely cosmetic my friend. Eventually we Xbox players should be able to customize our avatar's appearance, but that may not be for a while.

Male and female characters have a different maniacal laugh from kuru.  Hitboxes are all the same etc. I can't think of much else that's different besides the obvious visuals.
