Not A New Player, But a Returning Player

Hello everyone, I used to be a player who would play the standalone on a fairly regular basis until all my friends stopped playing. It has been years since I have been back on the forums. Could someone give me a recap on what happened in the development cycle. What went wrong/rignt? Is this game still in development? What happened to Dean Hall? etc.
