Hello, survivors of the Standalone!

I've been thinking to myself recently, and I wondered why pain was so black and white, in terms of how it works, In Day Zero. Keeping in mind that this game is Early Access, and things will be changed in the near future, I'd like to present to you some of my ideas.

  • Post processing: Motion blur, Chromatic Aberration, Intense to Moderate screen shake (All depends on the severity of the injury)
  • Audio: There's already some groaning and AH! sounds in-game, but they don't happen very often. I believe that these sounds, along with new ones, should be activated like they obviously would in real life. Like being slashed or stabbed, it's going to hurt like a bitch, adrenaline or not. Being shot, gonna' hurt like a bitch (Depends on if wearing protective gear, like a press-vest, or not.) and all the other obvious pain-inducing horrible things that can happen. The audio effect, and the occurrence of it should depend on how you got injured. Stabbed and slashed = Consistent and random groans and screams until treated with morphine, pain killers, alcoholic beverages, and or time. Same goes with most injures.
  • Effects on the player: I don't really have to go in-depth with this one, as the new player controller will add tons of animations for this.
  • Combat effects: In-terms of this, obviously gun-sway and the ability to aim would be impacted by your injures, and or the ability to fight and look straight at all.

Well, yeah, that's pretty much it for the suggestion. Please feel free to add, or change any of the ideas presented in the suggestion itself. Let me know if you like the idea, or not. Thanks for taking the time away from Porn-hub to read my suggestion.

Had to fix some typos, and change some colors of the sentences.

Great suggestions!

I would also to hear other people scream in agony when they get shot and seriously hurt.

Also better and a bit more blood please. Maybe loose a limp too when hit by a high calibre rifle, - and then bleeding out and dying in pain in say 10-15 seconds.

Walking infected that get a limb shot off and bleed out in agony would be very atmospheric and dramatic too.

De-limping a corps to harvest meat would be cool too.

Dayz 'it's your story' can use more drama invoking sounds and graphics.

I've always wanted blood.

In Day Z, our characters are apparently not even mortal. Instead, they are the Exalted of the gods, capable of turning aside bolt, blade and bullet through sheer force of will. And, even when they do get injured through force of arms, they are capable of absorbing much more damage than beyond any mortal ken.

/snerk

Relatedly, our characters tank far, FAR too much damage. A bullet/arrow/knife to the chest should be lethal.

The current player speed is high, because there are too few vehicles.

In general you're right off cause. There is no game that is as brutal as reality. I think in order for a game to work it needs good player feedback, as well as fighting chance to avoid and escape a danger.

I would like to see a realistic arrow damage. You see arrows, especially with bladed heads, do a lot of damage when moving after been hit. (see bow hunting).

Is this screen shake upon the injury (get shot, screen shakes) or is it constant? Because there is no way I'd be pro-screen shake if it was anything other than extremely temporary.

I think when you're extremely injured or in a lot of pain it'd be cool if a low pass filter was applied, making the audio muffled. A change to screen brightness could be cool as well. A few years back I broke my arm and I remember I was okay to begin with - I was in a lot of pain - but I was more or less fine. After a few minutes, however, I had to sit down because I almost passed out - I remember seeing lots of colour and bright lights. Simulating shock, rather than just pain, would be a great touch - even if the effects only become apparent after a few minutes.

Current damage models are a little wack. I imagine they'll tweak the numbers when the new player controller is in. I don't think it should be entirely realistic, however. Almost every time I've been shot at I've not seen my attacker. Weapons are extremely accurate. A few days ago I was happily running along when I got shot at by either a RAK or a Scorpion. One round hit me in the chest, which  probably would have killed me in real life - and that wouldn't be especially fun. It can take a long time to gear up in DayZ, and I'm not especially keen on being one-shot by just about any weapon you can get your hands on - as realistic as that might be. it's fine in, say, Red Orchestra because you respawn and you are instantly back in the fray. Not so in DayZ, so there needs to be a little bit of leeway there - though not surviving-a-Winchester-shot-at-point-blank leeway.

I do believe the health thing will be fixed when the new animations, and damage system comes in. I'm hoping they add incapacitation, similar to what Rust has, but more realistic.

Why stop there?  Wouldn't you be obligated to also include being drunk? happy? calm? I want flashing icons when I'm horny.

It's a great idea as long as all the state of mindz are represented equally.

True, I think?
