Can anyone give some insight into why Shadowplay records .60 so dark?

Recommended Posts

Dearest DayZ community,

If any of you have tried using shadowplay to record in .60 you notice right away that the actual gameplay looks extremely dark. The menu, inventory screen, and everything but the actual gameplay looks normal. But the video of you running around, looks so dark that day time looks like night. Its horrible, and I cant figure out what may be causing this...

Now I am not trying to report an issue, or anything like that. What I am trying to do is see if anyone out there has even a remote clue as to why a game would do this? Or why shadowplay would do this?

Does anyone out there have any insight? ..Possible fix?

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             Thanks,

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                Irish

I don't have any help for you but if someone does give you a solid answer, please share. I cannot use shadowplay at night or low light conditions because the recording will be so dark it cannot be viewed and even going into the forest during daylight will sometimes darken the video very badly. I have noticed this on several Youtubers videos as well. I know in-game video settings do not help. I have tried to crank up the gamma and brightness but it doesn't seem to register in shadowplay.

I have the same issue with shadowplay and the only fix ive found is to use video editing software to brighten it. Not a complete fix but it will allow you to at least see whats going on. In the mean time, I am going to stick with fraps since i have a few extra fps i can spare on .60 :).

Also, ive noticed the issue isnt limited to just shadowplay. I usually broadcast my play thru steam, and the broadcast itself is the same darkness as shadowplay. Ivr had multiple friends check to verify this as well. I dont think the issue is related to an Nvidia driver, which was my first thought, since it happens with steam broadcast as well. (Unless steam broadcast is using the same drivers as shadowplay, which I find unlikely)

Doesn't work for me either. BTW, for me also the menu and start screen are dark. Went back to 0.59 and shadowplay worked as normal.

I got it to work. Go into shadowplay, and on the screen where you choose where the FPS counter shows up in which corner, under the monitor image there is a box that says enable desktop capture. Click it. Then do what the video shows.. just alt-tab.

Problem is you dont know if its worked unless you alt-tab and check your recording.. which is problematic.

Thanks for the post. I'll give it a try next time I get logged in to the game. I'll be sure to share my results once tested.

I have a similar problem with Action! from Mirillis. No video is recorded at all when using the "Game/DirectX/OpenGL" recording mode. I have to use Desktop recording and play the game in windowed (borderless fullscreen) mode. I think this comes at the cost of a few FPS, so it would be nice if this would work again like it used to in 0.59 (ie. record fullscreen without issue).

Yeah I lose frames when I play in windowed mode.
