Which GPU should I go with for DayZ?

Recommended Posts

So, I need help, I need a couple of components to add to my computer to help run DayZ better than I am already running it. I have a MSI Twin Frozr R9 270x 2gb at the moment right now. I dont need new ram, power supply, hardrive or ssd. Mainly I need help with finding out what GPU, CPU, and MOBO would be nice for under/ and or around $550.

At the moment I run DayZ on lower than its lowest settings and only for some reason get around 35fps even in fields. I'm not super tech savvy so you may need to explain some things if you comment. Please help me, and thank you!

My card: MSI twin frozr R9 270x 2gb

Card I was thinking of: 750ti or Asus Strix 970 4gb.

CPU I was thinking of: ?

    Motherboard/MOBO I was thinking of: ?

As you can see I need help with finding out what CPU and MOBO would be nice to go along with a NVIDIA card.

Again my budget is under/ and or around $550, if you can help me that would be awesome!

Upgrading your PC won't guarantee you better performance, it's not recommended in any way as the game is still unoptimized.

With patience, you could save money and get better FPS later.

Titan Z, and you might get max 15 FPS in Cherno. :D

Then go for an i5-4690k and a Z97 mobo that has the features and price you are looking for. BI games like Intel's per core performance. Get a GTX 960 to go with it. Should come in around the price point you are aiming for. The 960 should do well once optimzations have taken place for DayZ as well. With a little cfg tweaking, you can get 30 minimum FPS in DayZ on the 4690k. Doesn't take too much either. My 970 + 4690k gets a minimum of 23 FPS on all max settings @ 1080p.

Thank you so much! You really helped me! It's been hard for me to piece all of the components together (especially cause im not the best with computers) but you just did it!

I can't thank you any more, but I do have two questions, in towns it it a constant 23 fps for you or somewhere around that? And when your outside of towns, is it buttery smooth?

What I'm saying is that if I were to max every single setting, not do any config tweaks, and go into Cherno, Elektro, Novo, etc., I would have a minimum framerate of 23. It would not go lower than that as far as I can tell. However, you can do a few config file tweaks to make that minimum number a solid 30 FPS.

Outside of cities, I get 45-60, but I do use Vsync and I have done some extra tweaking via editing my config file. Most PC players don't use Vsync, but I hate screen tearing with an absolute passion. I didn't spend $1500 on my rig to look at choppy lines all the time. If you turn off Vsync, you can get 70-90, perhaps more depending on scene composition and the settings under the Video -> Rendering section of the menu.

Also, those numbers are all only going to increase. The new renderer and subsequent optimizations have not been implemented yet. DX 12 should represent another improvement later down the line as well.

EDIT: Also, continue to do research and get other opinions before you buy anything. I am of the opinion that one should learn as much as they can before they buy stuff like this. You might decide, for example, that an AMD FX series processor is more in line with what you are looking for.
