Waking up from Unconsciousness

Recommended Posts

One of the biggest challenges in DayZ is staying alive after going unconscious. There are people to worry about, zombies, bleeding out, and all this other stuff. One thing in particular however, seems like an unfair challenge and that is the fact that the player instantly springs to his/her feet after waking up from being unconscious.

I think it would be more realistic and useful if players were to stay lying on the ground by default, When and where to stand up would be up to the control of the player and would make for better chances to sneak out of tough situations and/or fool people into thinking you're still not a threat. If you were knocked out in real life, I would imagine that you would take a moment on the ground to survey what happened, where you were, and what hurts before you decided to stand back up. I think it would make for better chances of survival after being knocked out.

To my knowledge, I didn't think it actually forced you to stand or change your stance when you wake from Unconsciousness. If I'm wrong then. . Hm.

Agree with action being in the characters hands. - Unless you're eating/drinking/bandaging. Then you oughta to get into the right position.

Huh. I actually thought it did... I may be wrong... something for me to try out at least! I'm pretty sure you stand up by default unless tied up, because I'm always holding down shift+W while I'm unconscious so I'll sprint as soon as I get up. Also, it's technically possible to eat, drink, and bandage while standing, crouching, or lying down.

In the real world, yes haha. But in DayZ, and I know you know what I mean, there's specific animations for certain actions. . At least at the moment. Could certainly be Working In Progress.

Just confirmed it! Got into a fist fight with someone and asked them not to kill me and when I woke up I stood straight up immediately without pressing any buttons. As with everything, this is probably a WIP system. Just my suggestion because standing up when I wake up has got me screwed more than a couple times. And yeah I know what you mean lol, similar to how there are specific animations for refueling, digging a garden etc.

This is a very good suggestion , I just hope that there's a slight (very slight) Indication of someone awaking into conciousness ... Kind of like when you see someone go from unconscious to death - their body limpens... Maybe your head could perk up a bit along with your shoulders so it's possible to fool your attackers into thinking you are dead , but if they have a good eye they can truly know if you are just playing possum or not !

In our experience I think you actually stand before you are "awake." Resulted in a tk during a hairy skirmish we had back in .58 and I'm quite certain it hasn't changed. We caught it on video either way but I agree with the fact you should stay laying down at least until you decide otherwise. If you want to lay there and fake it for a bit then should be your prerogative.

Exactly! It creates confusion for all parties, including the unconscious person. It's kind of panicking to wake up and not see anything for a few moments but know that you're standing up, looking very well visible and dangerous to everyone around you.

I'm not sure if it forces you to stand, it may be a "sometimes" thing like how actions such as vaulting, eating, and gesturing can sometimes cause your character to switch to a different stance. However currently you are instantly restored to the conscious position when regaining consciousness, and I'd you had an object (i.e. your rifle) in your hands you will involuntarily go through the animation to take it off of your back, meaning that pretending to still be unconscious is not possible.
