bulletgaming012 12 Posted January 5, 2016 Hi I enjoy watching Sacriel play Dayz SA and that he has managed to access the code of dayz to find values for food etc. Could anyone shed some light on how to do this as I am interested to see this for myself. Thanks in advance. Makin PS I have asked in stream but he seems unwilling to answer and my google searches have so far not proved particularly helpful. -Gews- 7443 Posted January 5, 2016 https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Community_Tools With these tools in game directory extract the .pbo you want to inspect and unrap the config.bin.
sneakydudes 278 Posted January 5, 2016 Yes, nobody will tell you much of anything. remember its still in alpha they have to finish the base game before making the tools, or available for us to alpha test ourselves.
q.S Sachiel 470 Posted January 6, 2016 Disclaimer on the Link page.Be careful as it may mess up your junk. I'd also expect accessing source code (if possible) to be against the EULA, most company's don't like you looking into their work like that for both security and IP reasons. Etherious 907 Posted January 6, 2016 (edited) Anytime, I want to look at the PBOs (btw this isn't the source code / server files which have more of the game's data), I use PBO Manager v1.4, and Kegetys ArmA tools. Dayz is going modded Sachiel. We will, if pbo files are in allow us to modify anything for our own server. There is much you may not understand about the BI tools. You will soon enough though. He is not reverse engineering, he is trying to get modding started. Huge difference to modding and stealing in some sense. In time we will have the tools to use, with the blessing of Dayz Devs/BI to help us understand most of coding in dayz. Its going to happen.

Also, there really is no need to go study mod on EnScript. Since it's close to SQF, and almost as easy to tinker with. EnScript is so amazing, especially considering it's 200% faster than SQF. q.S Sachiel 470 Posted January 6, 2016 I'm definitely not a computer hacker :(I thought source was like the DNA though, the stuff you could barely get your hands at unless given or you hacked your way in?To that end, i thought modding was more re-shaping the building than working back from blueprints? Wish i was a wizard though
sausagekingofchicago 4711 Posted January 17, 2016 He's just looking at the .pbo files. It's not magic or hacking or anything like that. It's also not the source code for the engine or anything. BI titles package a lot of stuff in easily modifiable files that are read by the engine and nearly all modding comes from either editing those files or creating your own. I don't recommend tinkering with them if you don't know what you're doing. If you want to gain experience with them I suggest you start with Arma2 or 3.
