Fuzzy_Wolf 2 Posted January 3, 2016 The irony of a player named "don't shoot" complaining about being unable to shoot other players is amusing. Otherwise, yes, players in this game run too damn fast. A fix has been "in the works" for quite some time.
Merc. 37 Posted January 5, 2016 Running will be slowed down once more vehicles and bicycles have been implemented. Until then, I'm thankful it's not fixed so we can cross distances without having to catch a breath
pilgrim* 3514 Posted January 5, 2016 (edited) The OP means he can't spin round in circles fast enough, I think. And maybe he shoots badly. In DayZ bullets already go faster than you can run. Edited January 8, 2016 by pilgrim
Espa 711 Posted January 5, 2016 There ought to be a movement limiter when you choose to change directions while sprinting. Something that would give your character a slight pause to shift their weight. GTA 5 does this well.

pilgrim* 3514 Posted January 8, 2016 A whole player-physics momentum system built, added, tested, weighted, debugged, tuned - to make it easier to shoot people who are running away and dodging? There must be a better reason?

There must be a better reason? It's not just for this reason lol , it's to make EVERYTHING about the dayz avatar look , move , and run more naturally then they do now . Momentum is necessary because right now basically everyone is NEO from the matrix , real people don't dodge bullets by running in tight circles , also REAL people fall down when they run in tight circles ... So yea momentum is needed for a number of things , not just to make PVP less cheesy and unbelievable (which it is now).
OrLoK 16185 Posted January 8, 2016 Hello there AFAIK the whole avatar controller will be overhauled and (I assume) inertia etc will be a part of it. it's definitely something the devs will have taken on board but whether its "fixed" only time will tell. Anyone remember when you could run faster diagonally rather than straight forward? Avatar control is a vitally important thing IMHO and is a bit of a stumbling block from putting DAYZ and Arma in their rightful gaming position (on top of everything else!) and is an issue that is often commented on both by players and press. If the devs can pull off a good compromise tween the existing control and the traditional FPS controller it will be an ENORMOUS coup for DAYZ and BI. pilgrim* 3514 Posted January 8, 2016 (edited) ..//.. ..//.. Yes I understand, both of you - this should/could be very goodI' wondering about the difficulty of getting it into the game.(and I admit - in this thread I was slightly laughing about not being able to spray a player running through woods because he dodged too fast.. there could be "several" reasons for that incident) OK: Player Inertia - go for itImagine 2 players with full mountain backpacks & a gun & and their clothes with full pockets (how many kilos is that on your back ?) - then the two players square off and try to melee with axes... (hmm..). That will be interesting to see. Also when shooting - as you turn your rifle barrel to lead a moving target, you have inertia too - at first not much because you can track a target easily over a few degrees without moving your body mass- until you have to shift your shoulders (your stance) with that famous 40 kilo backpack. then you have to regain your stance, and aim again as if for the first time. What happens if you run down a forest hill weighted like that (you must be very slow and careful?) - or if you jump down a couple of feet with a full pack, might that damage you? I guess also you climb ladders much slower? Also if you try to swim with 30k and a rifle on your back you drown? (of course!)And to drive a vehicle you have to take off that pack and the gun and the spade, I guess? Anyone ever tried that IRL? Do snipers with SVDs wear a full pack as usual (no penalty) or do they loose accuracy for trying that? Also I guess if you run with a heavy weight it is not only slower, but also it takes longer for you to get your breath back so you can aim properly? And if running you throw yourself flat, or hop over a fence, or even just jump up to standing/running position from prone (try that with a heavy pack IRL), that weight will always make a big difference in speed and in what you can/cant do. Then the actual movement of 'running' round a corner, - if I take it too fast and tight do I overbalance and stumble or fall over (realistic), or do I have to run wide around the turn, or stop and then step round pretty slowly?Or going half way up stairs, changing your mind and turning round to come back down.. that really won't be 100% easy, with or without a rifle in your hands. Any chance of tripping? or is the whole movement slowed down? And then.; hmm.. suppose I do a deliberate body attack with all my gear on - I run straight into a player full force (from front, or from the back by surprise). Will that knock him down, stun him? Or if I run full into a wall by mistake (it happens) - will that stun me? all this stuff (these things here are just off the top of my head) - this is great and interesting - it all comes from the physical mass and inertia of players. There are plenty more examples we all know from real life, and from wearing backpacks, carrying heavy objects (for instance I suppose truck wheels will not be given realistic weight and inertia, or the player rolls them?) I agree, this will be amazing to pull off. It will change the game radically (a lot of players will throw fits & complaint-rants) But I hope to see it. xx pilgrim Edited January 8, 2016 by pilgrim
MrAerospace 87 Posted January 10, 2016 I suspect the implementation of momentum and stamina will be tied into the new animation system, simply because it makes sense to me that someone would fit them together into a single block. I do hope there's a lot of effort going towards staggering, stumbling and being knocked around, like Pilgrim talked about...It'll not only make PvP fights a lot more interesting, but imagine how good that would be for PvE as well. Zombies could actually try knocking players over! These are supposed to be predators, it's about time they went for the jugular! Or, imagine getting attacked by a bear and being knocked around like a chew toy.
Bororm 1156 Posted January 11, 2016 I can't wait for this, I hate the state of pvp as a result of player turn speed especially. It's just a zig zag mess of who can run up and spray the other player.
