gambla 118 Posted December 30, 2015 Hey guys, playing the ArmA series since OFP and DayZ mod since the early days, and now just bought DayZ SA a few days ago. With all the negative feedback everywhere, i had strong doubts and feared the worst. And now i just feel to say honestly, it's f**** awesome ! Well done guys ! Yes, it's alpha, yes, there are bugs. But after a week playing, i've not come across one single game-breaking bug that stopped me playing and having a big fun. Long story short, these are imho the biggest issues :- Loot: Far too much loot of everything, i was well equipped and supplied after 2 days - just no need to go hunting / fishing- Weather: Not seen rain once after a week, maybe just my bad luck. So again, no real need for good cloths or shelter. (i was really looking forward to have rain / bad weather i've to adjust to)- Zombies: Unfortunately there are far too few and only in big citys. So again, not much need for the guns and not much to survive. I really wish to fight hordes for food again, like we did in the mod. (i've read Zeds were just re-added)- Storage: Tents, barrels should have more capacity, as they do in real life - i'd also love to see small, green tents (like in A2) and bedroles for lone wolfs like me- Performance: no need to explainSo all in all, there is not yet much to survive, unfortunately. PvP is fine but i believe that's not the point, not the focus of DayZ.However, it's still fun playing and a good feeling to know you're working hard on our beloved game !Keep up the good work, all the best for 2016 !cheers, gambla
eno 1049 Posted December 30, 2015 A good review from someone who knows the practicalities of the developer and the "series" overall. It helps to come in and know the limitations of what the dev has worked on in the past so you have realistic expectations. I'm not sure if PvP is the focus... they say it isn't but a lot of signs suggest it is. It will always be a dominant play style- I think the concept may be that people who want to "survive" are going to have to stay away from the cities / towns... and away from contested territory... and figure out what that is on whatever server they're on. They make PvP dominant so that people wanting to stay away from it really need to work hard at it. And about the weather- it's funny you mention it because on our own server I haven't seen a drop of rain since .59 hit while I go onto another server and it's pouring rain complete with lightning. I read somewhere awhile ago that it can even be "host" related- every gameservers host I've played on was sunny. Others- not. Placebo? Correlation / causation? Maybe. Anyway- welcome to SA. Maybe we'll see you out there.

gambla 118 Posted December 30, 2015 I really love the rain as it adds so much "simple" realism and of course the great immersion that you need to take care not to get wet and cold.Just great.
Killawife 599 Posted December 30, 2015 Rain was quite common in 0.59 experimental but I haven't had it once since stable. It thunders a lot though but it never starts to rain.
eno 1049 Posted December 30, 2015 Rain was quite common in 0.59 experimental but I haven't had it once since stable. It thunders a lot though but it never starts to rain. Now that you mention it I'm starting to think my rain memory was just clouds and thunder- the last rain was at the tail end of .58 in a different server than our own. We still didn't see a lot of rain on gameservers, mind you.
