My problem with the Standalone

I get that it's still an alpha work in progress.  So I'm not complaining about bugs or even KoS.

 

My big complaint with the Standalone is that everyone is so focused on picking apart the content that you no longer hear any stories about actual gameplay.

 

What I mean is this.  During the mod you had all these YouTube channels like FrankiePCin1080p or the Cherno Journal or just random videos.  People on this board telling stories about this, that and the other thing.  So it kind of built up all this lore around DayZ.

 

Now it's all bitching about development or picking apart some vehicle or weapon mechanics.

Very true.  There's still some good content out there.  I suggest checking out MrBlackOut's stuff, that is precisely the reason I enjoyed his videos where as I usually don't get into watching other people's content.  I used to enjoy Frankie's earlier stuff before he started doing exactly what you're talking about, spending more time bitching about stuff than just playing the game.

 

MrBlackOut's hardcore series especially was just him enjoying the game and having some adventures, it was rather refreshing.

It's called feedback. That's the whole point of early access. Without it, we'd probably have a way worse game at this point in development. Don't get me wrong, sharing and reading stories about the game is all well and good, but it's better to dissect the game and find the issues for the devs to deal with than it is for us to sit around a campfire, telling stories and singing Kumbaya.

Second, I think you need both.  Ultimately it's a game.  If the sum of all the parts doesn't add up to something that's actually fun and exciting to play, what's the point?  The Mod was a buggy, imbalanced, unstable mess.   But it was a lot of fun to play.

 

What I'm saying is if people aren't sitting around the campfire and singing Kumbaya stories about how they raided Elektro and made some bandits drink disinfectant, DayZ has failed as a game.

Do you really think the team working on core gameplay or the new renderer is also in charge of making new vests?

I'm sure the reason they come out with all the new guns and clothes so much faster than the renderer and such is because (and im not a computer engineer of any kind but) it is probably much easier to do that lol

I do not.   However I do know that budget spent on developing new visual assets like models for guns and buildings is budget not spent on perfecting the core gameplay or the underlying engine.

But who is to say that a huge portion of the budget/man power ISN'T spent on core gameplay/engine work.

It has been said by many before (with much more experience with such things) that some things can't be made better/more efficient simply by throwing money at it.

Too many cooks kinda thing.

And besides, just because we dont see it in the game we are currently testing, doesnt mean they arent advancing by leaps and bounds behind the scenes.

Your very right, we are or some of us are "very picky, alpha testers" We test, support our bugs then post on them. Its getting very thin on new bugs discovered on the normal game play level.

I think the worst part is when we see a bug, an aka persistent bug floating around 10 patches later that completely will dismantle someones play time testing. People get cranky, or the ones that really push your buttons float around here, looking to create an argument all the time. Those are the ones that need to be reported on and removed.

 

I move to the gallery all the time, and review some great videos. This is where i get my stories from.
