Various Suggestions and multiple player feedback.

Recommended Posts

Hi guys!

Firstly I am going to start by saying this thread is a collection of multiple suggestions and opinions gathered and seconded by multiple players instead of just one person. With that in mind please respect the freedom to express their (our) opinions and give constructive criticism regarding the alpha build of DayZ Standalone.

With that being said lets get started, firstly I might add that DayZ Standalone although only a build of a game, is good for what you might expect however it does need severe work and without a bit more care will end up in everyones trash (if it hasn't so already), don't get me wrong, for a alpha build it's not bad but wow does this need tweaking.

Below is a compiled list of issues that as players we have encountered and think there could be easy and simple suggestions to fix them.

ISSUES

-Zombies : There are no zombies at all...well there are but they are so rare that you probably have 1 or 2 spawning per server maybe, roughly a year ago we had at least frequent zombies and albeit they were a nuisance at least we had them, even as a alpha build this needs immediate correcting...it's marketed as a zombie survival game...how can you expect any players to even buy into your alpha if 50% of the aspect of the game isn't in place.

-Loot : DayZ has always prided itself on being a game based on survival, looting for better gear and supplies and of course getting great guns and currently the games experience can be summed up very easily...if clothes can be used as weapons, food, medical supplies and as equipment then great...your in the right place...are you dying? Medical scrubs should make that better right? Or are you in need of food? I'm sure you can eat the 6 pairs of pants you will find inside that house over there. How about running out of ammo and need to fend off other players or bandits? Yeah maybe roll those pants up and start throwing them or try strangle a enemy player by wrapping a sweater around their neck! (Sorry for the sarcasm guys but seriously...clothes are everywhere and they are taking up loot spawns that we need...FIX THIS)

-Individual clothing : Its all well and good that you like customization but why does it need to be to this extent? We arent playing a game where fashion is very important...I cannot tell you how many times players have been killed while selecting which jacket or hoodie to wear that matches their pants...easy targets, clothes should be a fun find and uncommon like in Arma 2, preset outfits would be a great counter to the TONS of useless shit (excuse my language but it needed to be said, who the hell needs a medical scrub cap? Is that something you expect players to use?) You could instead allow clothes to be a preset menu option for what your player will look like...that way at least players select how they look without it taking 5 hours of gameplay looting every single house swapping jackets or pants endlessly.

-Gear quality and condition : This is a clever concept that was implemented so poorly...Diablo and proper dungeon crawlers are worth keeping an eye on item durability...but a game where you will be constantly hit by zombies (if they exist), shot by players (if they aren't friendly which they likely wont be) or if you use the item alot such as a gun or pair of shoes...realistically yes items would degrade over time but in this game your lifespan goes about as far as most annoying buzzing insects do...you are going to die and you are going to die a lot...it doesn't make sense that you will get shot and likely survive but then that shot to the chest has ruined your shirt and or jacket, then your chest rig...then every single item inside of it. (wow this games fun, you spend hours finding loot for it to get instantly ALL destroyed by a single 9mm bullet...not very likely)

-Unneeded mechanics : We understand you want a zombie survival experience...the dayz mod summed that up almost perfectly...but why exactly is it required to add mechanics that nobody would EVER use...like gardening? Really? Whoever saw that season of the walking dead where they had the garden and whatever yeah sure it's good for showmanship but why do we need it now? (Again sorry guys but this isn't Russia simulator 2015 its a zombie survival GAME...stop trying to make it farmville v2.0)

-Loot rarity : We all love a little bit of a rare spawn or a rare weapon / item in the game, it gives us something to work towards, for me a Mountain Dew used to be my endgame...that or a orange sherbet, now it seems that my end game is any kind of gun...sure you find them here and there but the most common hunting rifle in the world? Nowhere on the map or apparently spawns in houses or barns? I've searched every single barn from Berezino to MORDOR and found nothing but repeaters and MP5K's...it's Russia...every single farmer had a bolt action rifle...I guarantee it so make the rare guns that are ACTUALLY rare spawn rarely...like maybe SVD camos etc but common as hell bolt action 5 round rifles should be everywhere...its still a game remember.

-Hacking : This kind of goes without saying but hacking should be a no go, you guys should be working hard to develop a really decent anti hack as if you play your own game for a good hour or so you will notice just how bad it can be...players spawning in loads of gear, taking 15 point black shots to the head then turning to you and killing you instantly with a mosin shot from a banana...please make a plan or allow us to report players in game so we can at least try get them banned.

-Realism : If you guys are so fond of realism please stick to it and stop making changes that are the furthest thing from true...a mosin can take a sniper scope...it's the most common sniper rifle used by the red army circa the 1940's...so why exactly cant it take a long range scope? For balancing issues? Come on really...also if a shirt is damp sure it might be a bit harder but I'm pretty sure any man or woman can rip up a t shirt with their bare hands...since when do we need knives to do that?

-Commitment : We realise dean hall has left your group and now it's up to you guys (however many of you there are) but you need to realise that releasing a game in early alpha then charging triple A prices for it is a bit much if your lead developer leads then the game stagnates in Alpha for the next year (possibly more) before even likely seeing a beta...stop wasting our time and your own by adding stupid content like clothes and farming hoes and code the game...make it work...add zombies...add game modes...and interface that looks half better...we don't need more trousers we need the game to at least be a shattered fragment of what it should be like upon release...in the time you guys have done a years work of work entire games have gone trough alpha and beta stages...I can appreciate you are a smaller team but dedicate your time to doing something more productive instead of adding content nobody wants.

-The map :  You guys have done a ton of work to the map and it looks stunning, if you have a dedicated team working on that it's great and they are doing great however again this comes down to the fact that the game could use more work in other areas, it's fantastic adding new areas in places of the map that were otherwise blank but it's a dominoes effect that just keeps knocking every thing else into play...add a prison...now we need prison clothes...add prison clothes now we need more specific spawns...now we need more memory...now we need to optimise for FPS in that area. (Add stuff at a later stage...we wont argue if you add areas in a beta or even after release right now all we want is a stable version)

-Optimisation and functionality : This is quite simple...this game was meant to feel very next gen and new but it's taking so long to get anywhere by the time you see a full release it will be just as old as the DayZ Arma 2 mod feels now...if you guys cant get at least 60 fps in some cities your going to have a bad time, especially in gun fights, that and the game itself feels too clunky...there wasn't a need to add animations for everything...eating cans could be instant and drinking bottles could also be a "double click use" item that instantly gave you full hydration...the old Arma 2 HUD was far better than this system you have now, try go back to that because if it ain't broke don't fix it.

SUGGESTIONS SUMMARISED

-Stop adding clothes

-Fix zombies

-Stop fixing 1 bug and creating 50 more (from a programmers perspective it doesn't make sense how you cant repair a simple piece of code that was previously working)

-Stop adding useless mechanics (Gardening)

-Make the game simplistic in some areas (eating, drinking, using instant use items)

-Make guns more common (it's still a game for crying out loud)

-Make military zones ACTUALLY spawn military grade loot, not just military clothes

-Make the HUD more like the Arma 2 DayZ Mod HUD (less is more)

-Clothing could be made into preset outfits (this is far better than individual items that just clutter the entire map up)

-Selectable spawning (makes it easier to regroup with buddies if you die or to try recover gear if you get killed)

-Gear degradation (just remove it...nobody cares for it)

-Optimise the game (it desperately needs it)

-Either inform your player base or dedicated players that are still alpha testing for you if you even plan to continue finishing this game

-Remove ragdolling as it has done nothing but mess up looting other players that you kill and cause immense irritation amongst buggy deaths.

DISCLAIMER - As I have said at the start of this thread, it is NOT intended to be rude or unhelpful if anything it's quite the opposite and it's a collection of opinions and suggestions from players I frequently play with myself and we decided it would be better to forward our opinions than not help develop the game further...

Keep in mind we have all paid for this games early access...it's not fair for the price that we have been charged that these kinds of steps are being taken during it's development...when you release a game you don't work on adding content you work on building the game first (the foundation) then adding the walls and roof.

Thanks very much for your time and I hope this information helped.

This is not realism not even close to realism get rid of farming wtf lots of people farm I FARM MY FREINDS FARM this is survival not PvP full time electro(I'm not saying its bad though I enjoy killing fresh spawns and bandits in electro). Half the stuff you said is planned and going to come. Optimization is coming soon(would you rather have optimization with annoying bugs or just optimization with less bugs or none), the degrading system needs some fixing I agree, no selectable spawns makes it to easy everyone will be were they want, zombies will be in .59 it'll be fun that's why exp will be fun, keep adding good mechanics there fun when your able to use them, instead of removing ragdolling how about just improve ragdolling because it is annoying, they should make more HUD options I don't really think its important but it'll be nice like to be able to switch inventory styles, I agree on the simpelestic things improvements some thing should be instant, I heard there going to make guns more common but ammo rarer just hopefully it won't be impossible to find I better be able to make my gun I find a melee weapon and attach a bayonet, central loot economy is on the works some buildings are bugeed but will be fixed and good, add more cloths just balance them out by adding other things better styles to help you look more unique the game shouldnt be like h1z1 with just t shirts I think they should add more random starter cloths everything included will equal 4 slots( you could even spawn with a 4 slot vest but no slots for pants or shirt just make it unique), beta will come and bugs will be clashed its soon Christmas time or January beta will be released, they need to work on reporting like a list for each server anyone can check of people that killed people and people can search there names and report someone who's supposebly hacking or something similar. While I disagree with most of the things I think you've just pvping to much and havnt gone and done the survival things they've added its pretty fun, but I'm not saying I don't PvP my self I have a squad growing getting ready for .59 and weve got 16 confirmed or pretty much yes people ready to raise hell we've asked about 20-30 people most said yes about 22 exact and our goals are to; find all the new cars and new items, kill anyone we see or hold up, eat them and cook them mostly applys to when were freshspawns, and to have fun. Yea were evil but we enjoy it.

Stop adding clothes? Replace clothes with full sets? Choose what set we wear at spawn? Brilliant. Play the mod.

Zombies are making a comeback in .59.

Yeah, you heard him, devs. Stop purposefully creating bugs. Fixing one bug and creating 50 more doesn't make any sense according to this guy, who should know because reasons.

Gardening will be useful once food is scarce. Currently it isn't, therefore gardening is near-useless.

Eating and drinking is simplistic. Time consuming, maybe, but still simplistic.

Guns are pretty common. Mosins are pretty common, as are most civilian weapons (though I've not found as many Winchesters, Blazes and repeaters)

I'm pretty sure military bases spawn military loot. You can tell, because people have military loot.

I actually agree with the HUD thing. The text display sucks.

Selectable spawning? Ooh how about a buddy system where you can spawn right on a friend?

Yeah let's remove gear degradation. This one guy speaks for all of us, and he says nobody likes it. No, I think it should be changed. Pristine/worn/etc is a horrible system. I'd much prefer, say, a percentage system.

Optimisation will come in time. New renderer. Etc.

Of course they plan on finishing the game. Don't be stupid. A delayed update and a seemingly slow development time doesn't mean they've stopped making the game. Games take time to make, usually a few years. DayZ's development seems slow because we are witness to every update. Games are usually announced a few months, maybe a year before they're released; they've usually been in development for a few years prior to that. Most of DayZ's development time has been going into the engine, which is why it might seem like there's not been much progress. They're laying the foundations still.

Yeah the ragdolling is shit. I'd prefer if they'd just left it out because it clearly isn't finished and doesn't really add to the game in its current state.

DayZ is supposed to be difficult. It isn't, but it will be. Survival will be a major element, as such what you wear will be important, how you find food and water will be important and so on. It sounds like you just want the mod, which is fine, but the Standalone isn't the mod. If it was just a slightly polished version of the mod what'd be the point? The price tag for early access? Yeah, I do actually think it's a little bit high, but in fairness it was considerably lower. Hell, H1Z1 is supposed to be free to play which puts DayZ's price into perspective a little; they're not charging literally infinitely more than what the game will cost at release.

Anyway, welcome to the forums.
