I can't provide any links but I read many times here that we actually live days after the apocalypse. However, I find several things in Chernarus inconsistent with that statement, off the top of my head:

1) the charred buses in numerous towns which are clearly corroded (at least that's how I remember that). What, they were just standing there and corroding for months before the outbreak?

2) first and foremost, the broken fences around military sites. It's not true and not believable that such places would be run down because of the general situation. Poor country or not, you don't just crawl under a fence right behind some barracks. Authoritarian regimes don't care about money here, people may literally die in famines and the military would still be one of the last elements actually working (more or less). Think North Korea - one of the poorest countries in the world can field the 4th biggest army in the world. Of course it's backwards, but that's not the issue here - fences and concrete walls would be in fine condition.

totally have to disagree with that (not with you). It has definitely been a couple of months, several weeks after society shat the bed.

Take a look at Berezino sometime. The overgrowth is consistent with "waste" (that is, plants that grow in marginal soils, aka shitty, compacted soils often found in cities, like in abandoned lots and such) plants after a single growing season. The grass is high, but not that high, if you know what I mean. Same thing with weeds and such, piles of leaves, etc.

Actually zombies only have tracking abilities of I think 100 meters? since a deer can do that fast and easily the zombies would have zero chance of hunting them down, espacially since zombies make a ton of fucking noise and are badly camouflaged

Don't think in current game-terms, especially when it comes to "infected". They are still due for a major revamp.

One word for you. Rusty Cars

What you mean the same rusty cars that where in cherno in arma 2 ya know when there hadnt been a apoc merely a civil war in a low economic region.. Dayz stands for Day Zero ( nothing to do with zombies as they are actually infected..)

well, I never said it was my idea, in fact in Chernarus I'm finding evidence to the contrary (like the one I mention above), but I'm quite sure that's the 'official version'. You should find it somewhere on this board.

I think both charred buses and military vehicles, and broken fences in military sites are explained when you consider there was a military crisis in Chernarus before the outbreak. That would be the crisis which was in Arma 2.

Another thing is that vegetation is pretty much the same as it would be in normal Chernarus. I've visited both Chernobyl and Pripyat in Ukraine, and Chernobyl looks like Chernarus in the game, as there is still some activity there and it's thus maintained, while Pripyat is overtaken by rampant vegetation. There are trees growing inside 5-6 houses in Chernarus, but I believe these are accidental and don't have anything to do with the background story.
