Zurvivalist 300 Posted October 18, 2015 Will cherno ever look like this ? or will we have to wait for modding to allow player made maps ?
Valdenburg 200 Posted October 18, 2015 Since the start the DEV team works on making the world more unique and different from the arma look.My guess is that they also work towards degradation of citys and overgrowth. There are actually some areas where they tried something like this. For example north-north east from chernogorsk, there is also a crashed car on that road.
BeefBacon 1185 Posted October 18, 2015 There'll be 'devastation passes' apparently, which I suspect means adding burnt out cars, rubble, stuff like that. Given that DayZ takes place in the weeks or months following the collapse of society, it's unlikely we'll see overgrown streets and stuff, cool as that'd be. Zurvivalist 300 Posted October 18, 2015 There are a few very nice small areas on the current map that look like they are going in this direction. Its a matter of interpretation as to the age of DayZ.Some would see SA being placed after the DayZ mod which contained all new shiny items . Mod was in what 2012? so its been a few years now in real time. Since the fall of civilization. Mod was all new still working stuff.. SA could easily go a few extra years past that point . Which would allow for over growth of vegetation, aging of buildings and vehicles . With out going too far and everything being in ruins . Which would start messing with current modern weaponry and items . ( 3 years , sure still find nice items.. 20+ year.. no way. We would all be using sticks and bows ) My best argument for this style of map . Is the simple question of who exactly is still going around mowing the grass in the Apocalypse ? BCBasher 2465 Posted October 18, 2015 After a few years all petrol would have gone bad and diesel and kerosene/jetfuel for helicopters wouldn't be far behind kind of blowing the cool vehicles they have and are adding out of the water.

Theres times ive fired up an old car or an old ATV or something with whatever gas was in the tank, which is sometimes 5+ years old or more. Granted they don't run nearly as well and don't start as easily, but it will run, expecially after it gets warmed up. New gas is better, but old gas gets the job done in a pinch.
Roshi (DayZ) 397 Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) Will cherno ever look like this ? or will we have to wait for modding to allow player made maps ? Yeah some more overgrowth would add some good ambience. Nothing too crazy. Although I got to say the map design guys are doing an awesome job. I keep stumbling on little unique features in the middle of nowhere which make the new cherno look pretty damn good Edited October 23, 2015 by Roshi

Good point but have you done this recently, like since they started putting ethanol in gasoline? Not sure how that works in Chenarus but it's water absorption is a deal breaker here in the humid Pacific North West. I've saved a few bikes, atvs, and gas yard tools from being lawn ornaments and in my younger days thought I could get away with using the last little bit of stale gas only to have my dad laugh his ass of at me while rebuilding the carbs to get the broken up scale that shakes loose as soon as they get shook up. These days the first thing I do is remove the tank and all the old fuel from the system, descale the tank and carb with xylene thinner, replace the fuel and fuel lines, bada bing a 20-30 year old yard find starts and runs like new if the electrics and compression are good. Not trying to argue you so much as the problems the OP has with moving the timeline from the little bit of lore this game has. tl;dr Old gas, YMMV... wildly. I'm pretty sure the standalone is the only official canon now - the mod isn't actually a part of the lore. The amount of time post-apocalypse is intentionally vague, because there's plenty of fresh food just lying around (and a lot of it couldn't have been grown in Chernarus) and USMC helicopters that crashed recently (why would the US military be operating in some obscure Eastern European country several years after everything ended?) but at the same time vehicle wrecks look several years old and a map that's inconsistent at points.
