Adding predators to dayz

Recommended Posts

Hello survivors ,

Today i had a great ideas that will improve the game and i feel like Sharing it on dayz forums , how about adding predators to dayz such as a lion , tiger ,bears , anacondas .

In my opinon its a great idea since this is a survival game , and each prdator will have his unique proparities

For example snake is slow and you can escape from it but it has a huge damage and it might capture you and it can be found in forests .

Lion is fast and deadly and u can avoid it by hiding beside a tree or not making steps sounds and it can be found in open fields

Second idea is about dropping a raw meat to zombies in order to make them stop chasing you , once you drop the meet they will stand on it and eat it while u will run away in that time , u can also drop baits on the ground to attract deers or cows and hunt them.

Feel free to post your feedback in a comment.

Predators are planned as far as I know, but the bait idea for zombies is pretty great, haven't seen it personally myself up until now.

I believe they are adding some animals but they will be of a more realistic, native to Eastern Europe kind....animals such as wolves, bears, wild dogs etc.

Unless there is a zoo and the animals escaped i am not sure how you would get jungle dwelling predators such as tigers and anacondas in game.

As for the dropping meat idea...it would be nice to have some way of distracting the zeds,  but would they stop for a slab of meat if they can still see you running away?  The Infected aren't your typical brain dead zombie.

In reality, there isn't really enough space in South Zagoria to support more than a single pack of wolves. Much less a brown bear.

The most common predator the survivor would likely come across are feral dogs.

Dog packs in the large cities would be realistic. I think the area is big enough for a few bears and some wolves in the forest areas.

Not sure if eastern europe have large wild cats or similar.

Not really. I had a post several months back specifically concerning wolves and bear.

So, enough room for a single wolfpack, and maybe a female bear. And the info from the above thread is on the "small side" for territorial requirements.

Europe only has wild cats, slightly larger than domestic cats and they often interbreed. Would probably not make a good predator for the game since they are not dangerous enough for humans.

I think the feral dog packs would be a nice addition. Some snakes too but it should be rare you get bitten by one. It would probably have to be a viper, not that many venomous snakes in eastern europe.

Adding lions, tigers and anacondas would be just silly.

On the topic of wolves and bears. Not everything in the game has to be 100% realistic (as it is already not and never will be). So having a few bears and 2 roaming wolfpacks could be acceptable imo.

To be honest here mate you're kind of ignoring the obvious. The map isn't big enough for mankind to have evolved purely there either, but it goes unsaid that this is just a small section of the world. Notice the buildings everywhere? The man made wells and wrecked vehicles and infastructure, the schools? I wonder did you see a school for the first time and say "tut tut, as if this is a large enough map to support the human race". I doubt it, because it's obvious :)

When i find a cat in my garden i don't instantly think "oh man i never knew my garden was enough territory for this cat to live exclusively".. Instead i prefer the more realistic "oh look there's a cat in my garden".

If Chernarus is the kind of land you would find wolves then i'm happy to accept that our small part of the map is not the only part there is, and all the evidence already supports this view.

Bring on the wolves.

What?

Do you know how animals actually live in the wild? They don't share territory.

I never said their wouldn't be wolves in South Zagoria, I just said that, based on the territorial requirements, there would be so few, they might as well not put them in the game at all, for the effect they will have on gameplay.

Wasn't suggesting they share territory, just that with pack size anywhere from 4 to 20 or 30 and the constant need to move around the territory to find food, i can see wolves being a back of the mind consideration. The kind of once in a while thing that would make dayz deeper without necessarily changing gameplay too drastically. Big territory yes, but the wolves are moving anywhere up to 100 miles or more a day throughout it as are we the player. It would be a fun thing to bump into once in a great while.

I get wanting a realistic game... but do we really need to concern ourselves with the literal or realistic population of wolves or bears in a given geographical location?

Maybe it's just me, but I thought the zombies horded a little differently than the ones roaming the streets outside my apartment...

IT'S A GAME...
